In a key interaction at the national capital, Union Minister Jitendra Singh engaged in a high-level courtesy call with Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, head of the Indian Army’s Northern Command. The session covered pressing defence issues, earning praise from the minister as an ‘enriching discussion’ via his X post.

Singh shared details on X: ‘Courtesy visit by GOC-in-C Northern Command, Udhampur, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma. Fruitful exchange of thoughts ensued.’ This comes at a time when border vigilance remains paramount.

Taking helm on May 1, 2025, Lt Gen Sharma replaced Lt Gen MV Suchendra Kumar at Udhampur headquarters. Boasting 30 years in the forces, the infantry stalwart brings a wealth of experience from top echelons.

His previous stints include Deputy CoAS (Strategy), DGMO, and DG Information Warfare, showcasing prowess across operational planning, intelligence, and cyber domains.

Operationally, Sharma shone in Operation Pawan (Sri Lanka), Siachen’s Meghdoot, Rakshak against militancy, and Parakram mobilization. These feats underline his readiness for Northern Command’s rugged terrain and adversarial threats.

A product of NDA Pune, IMA Dehradun, and DSSC Wellington, Sharma was commissioned in 1987 into Madras Regiment. His career trajectory embodies excellence in leadership and tactics.

The rendezvous signals robust government-army ties, vital for addressing LAC tensions and internal security. Observers see it as a step towards streamlined decision-making in defence matters.

A search operation is underway in multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, in connection with a case related to terrorism. The raids are being conducted by the Counter-Intelligence Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Authorities have confirmed that the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) is searching eight locations in the valley as part of the ongoing investigation. The targeted areas include Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Pulwama, and Shopian districts. These raids are taking place following warrants issued by a competent court, linked to First Information Report (FIR) number 3/2023.

Prior to this, the Counter-Intelligence Wing has conducted similar raids. In July, search operations were carried out simultaneously in several locations. The army and police in Jammu and Kashmir have been actively working to dismantle terrorist networks for an extended period. Numerous search operations and attempts to infiltrate have been thwarted in various areas of the valley. Police are currently investigating the individuals’ contacts and bases their operations on their activities. Previous raids had revealed suspected connections with various terrorists, including Abdullah Ghazi, a leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba/Jaish-e-Mohammed.

In a separate development, Udhampur police conducted a major raid on a spa center. Several men and women were taken into custody during the operation. The raid took place at a spa center in Ward Number 5, Badia, Udhampur. The operation lasted approximately four hours and involved a significant number of police personnel and senior officers. Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Local residents have expressed their approval of the police action.
