According to police sources, Maliwal’s complaint states that Kumar slapped her multiple times and struck her chest and stomach during the incident on Monday. The FIR, filed by Maliwal on Thursday, charges Kumar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including molestation, criminal intimidation, and outraging a woman’s modesty. However, Kejriwal is not named in the FIR, confirmed a police officer. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are anticipated as the case progresses.

  • Twitter removes filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s ‘Kaali’ poster tweet

    NEW DELHI: Social media platform Twitter has pulled down filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s tweet about her documentary “Kaali”, which is currently at the centre of a controversy, in response to “a legal demand”.

    In the said tweet posted on July 2, the Toronto-based director had shared the poster of “Kaali”, which depicted the titular goddess smoking and holding an LGBTQ flag.

    “This Tweet from @LeenaManimekali has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand,” read a message in place of the original post. It is unknown when the tweet was taken down by the microblogging site.

    On Tuesday, the Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police filed separate FIRs against Manimekalai over the controversial poster.

    Further, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa had urged the Canadian authorities to take down all “provocative material” related to the film after it received complaints from leaders of the Hindu community in Canada about the “disrespectful depiction” of Hindu gods.

    “Kaali” was showcased as part of the ‘Under the Tent’ project at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. Under attack for the poster, Manimekalai had on Monday said she will continue to use her voice fearlessly till she is alive.

    “I have nothing to lose. Till the time I live, I wish to live with a voice that speaks what I believe without fear. If the price for that is my life, it can be given,” she wrote in a tweet in Tamil in response to an article on the controversy. The filmmaker also urged people to watch the documentary to understand the context behind the poster.

  • Alt News co-founder Zubair remanded to 14-day judicial custody, to remain in Tihar

    LUCKNOW: Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair was brought to Sitapur by the Delhi police in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a community through his tweet on Mahant Bajrang Muni, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati and Swami Anand Swaroop.

    According to IG Lucknow Range, Laxmi Singh, Zubair was produced before a court at Sitapur in the abovementioned case. The Alt news co-founder had allegedly referred to the three religious persons as “hate mongers” in his tweet.

    The case was registered against Zubair on the basis of a complaint submitted by one Bhagwan Sharan on May 27 for the alleged derogatory tweet against Mahant Bajrang Muni, Yati Narsinghanand and Swami Anand Swaroop.

    While the Uttar Pradesh police had filed a charge sheet against Zubair in the case, it was followed by a warrant B against him as he was booked on the charges of hurting religious sentiments and under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, said IG Laxmi Singh.

    Though the Sitspur court remanded Zubair to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the case, he would remain in Delhi’s Tihar jail where he was lodged after his arrest on June 27 in another case of hurting religious sentiments. After 14 days, the Alt News co-founder will be produced in the Sitapur court again.

  • Lockdown to be imposed in Bihar till May 15, tweets CM Nitish Kumar

    Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced lockdown in the state till May 15.

    “After discussion with the associate ministers and officials yesterday, it was decided to implement the lockdown in Bihar by May 15, 2021. In relation to its detailed guidelines and other activities, today the Crisis management group has been instructed to take action,” tweeted Bihar CM.

    The decision of the Chief Minister came after Patna High Court on Monday asked the state government to control the COVID-19 situation and declare a lockdown or it will have to pass an appropriate order.

    Earlier, the Bihar government has imposed a night curfew in the state till March 15.

    Bihar Chief Minister has also announced free COVID-19 vaccine to all above 18 years of age.

    Meanwhile, the state registered 11,407 more COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the total count of active cases in Bihar to 1,07,667.

  • Apple finally resolves iCloud sign-in, activation issues

    Apple has resolved issues relating to the iCloud account and sign in nearly 36 hours after the issues were first reported.

    The problem with Apple’s iCloud account and sign in is said to have begun at around 4:45 AM ET on December 25. The issue appeared to have affected multiple Apple devices that needed iCloud set up and sign in.

    Users complained that they were unable to set up new devices that required iCloud activation. The outage came during the Christmas festival. So, those who received a new Apple device as a gift may have also faced problems with the setup.

    Responding to a user’s tweet, Apple had said that the company was “experiencing a high capacity at this time, which is impacting your ability to set up iCloud, please try back in a couple of hours.

    Hans Kluge, in a tweet, apprised that eight European nations have now identified the new COVID-19 variant, and WHO is continuing to monitor the situation. “The variant also seems to be spreading among younger age groups, unlike previous strains.
