Questions are frequently raised in India regarding the railways and its facilities. Criticism is often directed at Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw concerning these issues. The opposition has, on numerous occasions, referred to the Railway Minister in a mocking manner. However, for the first time, Saurabh Bharadwaj, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former minister, has praised both the railways and the Railway Minister.

Bharadwaj, who typically criticizes the central government, has acknowledged improvements in railway services and lauded Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for them. Bharadwaj shared a video on his social media platform X, expressing his satisfaction with the enhancements.

In the video, filmed at New Delhi Railway Station, Bharadwaj acknowledged that while the railway department has had its share of incidents, he wanted to acknowledge something positive. He praised the cleanliness of the platforms, toilets, and waiting rooms. He noted that the washrooms were clean and contrary to expectations, with staff consistently maintaining them. These observations led to his praise for the Union Railway Minister.

Previously, after train accidents, the opposition heavily criticized the Railway Minister. Whether it was the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station or the Balasore accident, the Railway Minister faced criticism. Sharp debates between the opposition and the Railway Minister were common in the parliament.

In response to a recent tragedy where four commuters lost their lives after falling from crowded Mumbai local trains, Indian Railways has announced plans to redesign its non-AC trains. The new design will incorporate automatically closing doors and enhanced ventilation systems. Scheduled for completion by November 2025 and deployment by January 2026, these revamped trains aim to address safety concerns and improve passenger comfort. The Railway Board has detailed that the redesigned coaches will feature louvred doors and roof-mounted ventilation units to ensure a continuous supply of fresh air. Additionally, vestibules will be included to facilitate passenger movement between coaches and better distribute crowd density. The initiative follows an incident near Mumbra railway station in Maharashtra’s Thane district, where overcrowding led to the fatal falls. The victims were reportedly traveling on footboards when the incident occurred.
