Mahindra is developing a new pickup truck designed to compete directly with the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. While Mahindra is not new to producing pickup trucks, this body style has not achieved significant traction in the passenger vehicle segment. A global pickup concept based on the Scorpio-N was showcased by Mahindra two years ago. Test models of this vehicle have now been spotted on Indian roads, fully camouflaged. The size of the new pickup, estimated to be over 5.50 meters, will make it longer than the Hilux and V-Cross.

Mahindra is developing a new pickup truck, poised to directly compete with the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. While Mahindra isn’t new to manufacturing pickups, this body style hasn’t significantly penetrated the passenger vehicle segment for the company. Two years ago, Mahindra showcased a global pickup concept based on the Scorpio-N. Test models of this vehicle have now been spotted on Indian roads, fully camouflaged. Its length immediately grabs attention, estimated to be over 5.50 meters, making it longer than the Hilux and V-Cross. The test model shows several design distinctions from the Scorpio-N. It’s expected to be available in both single and dual cab configurations, with the observed test model being a single cab variant. The front end noticeably differs from the Scorpio-N SUV, incorporating a mesh grille and older-style Ambassador halogen headlights. The bonnet design is carried over from the Scorpio-N, but the sides appear slightly more rounded. The prototype features 18-inch steel wheels, suggesting a lower or mid-spec variant. Previously revealed concepts featured all-terrain tires, whereas this test model is equipped with standard road tires. The vehicle will likely use the same ladder-on-frame chassis as the Scorpio-N, with suspension modifications to handle heavier loads. The dashboard and interior features are expected to be largely derived from the Scorpio-N.
