  • Felt robbed of our privacy: Tom Holland on viral photos with Zendaya

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Tom Holland says the downside of being a popular actor is the lack of privacy he gets in public as the British star opened up about his relationship with “Spider-Man” movies co-star Zendaya.

In July, the two stars, who have for a long time denied dating each other, were photographed kissing in a car in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The photos spread like a wildfire on social media and news websites in the US, fuelling speculation about their relationship.

In a profile interview with GQ magazine, Holland broke his silence on the matter and talked about the struggles he and Zendaya face keeping that part of their life together private.

“One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” Holland said.

The 25-year-old actor added that he remains adamant in keeping his personal life private.

“I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy,” Holland said.

The actor said that the decision to speak about his relationship with Zendaya is not his alone.

“I don’t think it’s about not being ready. It’s just that we didn’t want to. t’s not a conversation that I can have without her. You know, I respect her too much to say. This isn’t my story. It’s our story. And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together,” Holland added.

For the profile interview, Zendaya was also interviewed over a phone call and she said it was “quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive”.

“The equal sentiment (we both share) is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own. I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other,” the 25-year-old actor said.

Holland also talked about the impact Zendaya has had on his life over the years.

“Having her in my life was so instrumental to my sanity. She is so good at being the role model for young guys and girls. When anyone comes up, like, ‘Can I have a picture?’ it’s never a bad time.”

Whereas my initial reaction was: ‘Why are you talking to me? Leave me alone’,” he added.

Holland and Zendaya are currently gearing up for “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, their third film after 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, which released in 2019.

Holland, who also played Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, said “Spider-Man: No Way Home” might be his last as the iconic web-slinger.

“Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong,” the actor said.

Also starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will be released worldwide in December.

  • Tom Holland shares ‘Spider-Man’ cast is prepared for ‘conclusion’ to franchise

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Much-loved ‘Spider-Man’ actor Tom Holland revealed that he and the whole cast of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ are prepared for the film to be the last of the wildly popular franchise.

In a recent interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Tom shared that the film will likely be the “conclusion” to the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ franchise and the whole cast treated it as such on the set.

“I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy, we would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films,” the 25-year-old actor said.

He added, “Whether that happens or not, I don’t know, but we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”

The actor also spoke about his relationship with the alleged girlfriend and co-star Zendaya, who plays his on-screen love interest.

He revealed that he had built an “amazing relationship” with her and other co-stars Michelle Jones, and Jacob Batalon, who portrays Parker’s (Tom Holland) friend Ned Leeds.

“We’ve been with each other every step of the way. We’ve done every single film, every single press tour.. was heartbreaking but also really exciting because we’re all moving into the next chapter of our careers. So sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I’ve ever had on set. I don’t think I’ve cried like that ever,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Alfred Molina who will reprise his role as Dr. Octopus from the 2004 movie ‘Spider-Man 2’, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, and J. B. Smoove.

As per Variety, the anthology will explore the true and inspirational stories of those who struggled and learned to successfully live with mental illness. The first season of the series will be based on the biography ‘The Minds of Billy Milligan’ by Daniel Keyes.

It will tell the story of Billy Milligan (Holland), the first person ever acquitted of a crime because of Multiple Personality Disorder (now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder). Apple has ordered a 10-episode first season.

Goldsman will adapt the book for the screen and will executive produce under his Weed Road Productions banner, with Holland set to executive produce in addition to starring.

This is not the first Apple project in which Holland has featured. The streamer most recently released the drama feature ‘Cherry’, which featured Holland in the lead role.

  • Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ postponed, gets new release date

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: The release date of ‘Uncharted’, Sony’s film adaptation of the popular video game series featuring actor Tom Holland, has been postponed yet again.

As per Variety, this time, the movie is being pushed back one week to February 18, 2022, after being previously set for February 11, 2022.

‘Uncharted’ has been delayed several times. Its earlier release dates included March 5, 2021, October 8, 2021 and July 16, 2021. Prior to those dates, it was slated for 2016 and 2017.

However, the unforeseen delays, including the revolving door of directors with the likes of David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg and Travis Knight, forced the makers to push the release date.

The coronavirus outbreak and subsequent lockdown prevented the movie from sticking to a release date.

Now, Ruben Fleischer is helming the film, which follows the adventures of young treasure hunter Nathan Drake (Holland). The movie is based on the popular PlayStation video game franchise of the same name, which sees Drake travel the globe in search of mythical artifacts.

In addition to Holland, Mark Wahlberg plays Sully, a fellow treasure hunter and mentor to Nathan Drake, and Sophia Ali plays Chloe Frazer, yet another fortune hunter and Drake’s love interest. Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle round out the cast.

Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins wrote the screenplay, in addition to the story with Mark D. Walker, Jon Hanley Rosenberg and Trachtenberg.

Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad are producing, and executive producers include Robert J. Dohrmann, Fleischer, David Bernad, Neil Druckmann, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Marcum, Holloway and Holland.

  • Tom Holland expresses desire to play James Bond, says it would be ‘dream come true’

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Spider-Man stepping into the shoes of James Bond? Hollywood actor Tom Holland, who is widely known for playing Spider-Man in Marvel films, wants to be a part of another massive franchise.

As per People magazine, the 24-year-old actor in a recent interview expressed his desire to play the next 007 in the iconic James Bond spy films. The actor appeared on the U.K. radio program Heart where he was asked if he would play James Bond if offered.

Holland said, “Oh mate, it would be an actual dream come true. I’ve got to remind myself that I’m lucky enough as it is. Spider-Man is an absolute delight and privilege to play, but you know, should they want to do a younger James Bond you best believe I would be there.”

“It is what it is, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added. Holland is currently in Atlanta, Georgia filming ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ with his costars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.

The role of James Bond has been played on the big screen by seven actors — Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig, who is exiting the role after the upcoming movie ‘No Time to Die’.

It wouldn’t be the first time Holland has made a pivot in his career. Last month, the actor opened up about his memorable Lip Sync Battle in which he delivered a show-stopping performance of Rihanna’s 2007 pop hit ‘Umbrella’, something he said almost didn’t happen.

The actor told British GQ his father Dominic Holland had urged him to change his mind before appearing on the show.

He said, “My dad always taught me when I was younger and coming up in the business that you want to get famous as slowly as possible. You don’t want to get super famous tomorrow, because you won’t be able to handle it. It will ruin your life.”

The star said he is “very selective of who I talk to and what I do” as he does not “want to overexpose me because my privacy is the last thing I own.”

“I think that’s why he was so worried. And he’d tell me the same thing today I am sure: ‘Pace yourself, you’ve got a long career ahead of you.’ I don’t want to lose myself to all… this,” Holland said of his father.

Still, Holland said he is glad he went through with the performance. “Look, I am really glad I did that show and I had a lot of fun. It was incredibly stressful,” he said, adding it “has been incredibly successful and has been a really great thing for my career.”

Holland’s last release was the crime drama ‘Cherry’, in which he plays an Army medic who suffers from PTSD and starts robbing banks to pay for his opioid addiction. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who helmed numerous Marvel films including ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

‘Cherry’ had hit the theatres on February 26 and started streaming on Apple TV+ on March 12.

Lionsgate is bringing the movie to India in collaboration with Cinepolis India and Pen Marudhar.

  • Russo Brothers reveal they ‘fought’ with Sony to cast Tom Holland as Spider-Man

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Film directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently revealed that it was not a smooth-sailing journey for actor Tom Holland to land the lead role in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.

As per Entertainment Weekly, the directors shared that they had to fight with Sony, which owns the film rights to Spider-Man, to cast Holland as Peter Parker (Spider-Man). While the directors and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige were very enthusiastic about Holland, the studio was more resistant to the choice.

“We talked with Feige at Marvel about Holland and he got excited and then we went to Sony, ” Joe said in an interview with British GQ, as per Entertainment Weekly.

Joe added, “And they were like, ‘Let’s think about it for a minute.’ We could tell we were meeting resistance from Sony. So we brought Holland back, brought him back, brought him back, and we were relentless in our pursuit of jamming him down the throat of the studio who owns this IP. It came down to a fight, yet Sony just kept dragging their feet.”

Joe further said that Sony was hesitant to give them control of ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, and “nervous about handing off something that could ultimately cost them hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions of dollars down the line.”

“Sony’s reservations were: ‘Are we loaning it? Or are we giving it to them to help us reinvent it in a way that adds value for us?’” he continued.

The studio was also apparently skeptical about casting such a young actor as the web-slinging hero as Holland was just 19 when he nabbed the role.

“It was the first time Spider-Man had ever been cast as an actual teenager, right, which was very important to us; there was a distinct nervousness of casting a kid,” Anthony said.

    Tom Holland

As Joe recalled, it was Holland’s screen test with Robert Downey Jr., which is already something of a legend, that finally won him the role.

Holland told EW in 2015, “Robert took me aside and said, ‘Listen, I remember my screen test for Iron Man. I remember how terrified I was. Just think of it as an audition. It’s nothing too scary. If you get it wrong, we’ll just start again. No pressure.’ But that kind of raised the pressure a little bit for me. But he was great and super supportive, and because he said he’d been there and had been in the same situation, it made me relax a little bit.” Holland, who is currently gearing up for the third MCU Spider-Man film titled ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, also reunited with the Russo Brothers for their new drama ‘Cherry’, currently playing in theatres and coming to Apple TV+ on March 12.

Holland recently told EW, “I was worried about it: How are these guys going to go from making the biggest movie of all time to a small film like this? But I look back on it, and it’s been my favorite movie that I’ve ever worked on.”

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is set to pick up after Peter Parker’s (Holland) identity was exposed in ‘Far From Home’. With film series mainstays Zendaya reprising her role as Michelle and Marisa Tomei returning as Aunt May, Benedict Cumberbatch is set to appear as Doctor Strange in the movie.

Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina will also be stepping back into their roles from the past Spider-Man franchises as Electro and Doctor Octopus. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have written the script for the forthcoming Marvel film.

Filmmaker Jon Watts has helmed the upcoming movie after directing ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ (2017) and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ (2019), which earned more than USD 1.1 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ movie of all time.

  • Tom Holland credits Zendaya with helping him adjust to fame

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Actor Tom Holland, widely known for playing the lead role in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, opened up about his struggle to adjust to fame and revealed how his co-star and actor Zendaya helped him adapt to the life in the spotlight.

As per People Magazine, in a new cover story for British GQ’s April issue, Holland opened up about training for his new Apple TV+ movie ‘Cherry’ as well as how he has adjusted to fame since becoming a household name after playing the lead role in ‘Spider-Man’ movies.

The actor said consulting Zendaya has helped him along the way. Holland said, “Talking to Zendaya’s helped me a lot, actually.”

“I used to come across sometimes as a bit of a d— to fans, mainly as I was always so surprised that they’d want a picture with me or signature or whatever. I’d have the typical Londoner reaction, one of instant suspicion: ‘Why are you talking to me?’,” the actor said.

“Zendaya spotted this and quickly told me that this sort of reaction was going to be more aggressive than just smiling and taking the picture. She totally changed the way I am able to be more comfortable in public,” he added.

Holland also spoke about the speculation surrounding his romantic life, particularly how it can be “frustrating” to have relationships play out in front of the world.

“It’s very nerve-racking. It means that if you are dating someone, you have to be really conscious of their feelings, because if something does happen between the two of you, it’s not just happening between the two of you, it’s happening in front of the entire world,” he said.

The 24-year-old actor added, “And it can be very complicated. It’s one of the things I worry about most, of all the things in my career.”

Holland and Zendaya have reunited for the upcoming film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and the star said it has been “fun” to be back on set.

“It’s so fun being back with them, especially as Zendaya and I are going through similar things in our career, having taken on more adult roles to now come back to Spider-Man,” he said.

Holland added, “I am so proud of what she has accomplished with Euphoria and also Malcolm & Marie. I think we both had to adjust again for No Way Home: I had to lift my voice up a couple of octaves higher and we both had to go back to playing these naive, charming teenagers again.”

He further said, “We were talking about it yesterday, in fact. We were filming a scene where we go back to school and, well, I haven’t been to school since I was 15. It was really strange.”

‘Cherry’ is now playing in select theatres, and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ on March 12.

Meanwhile, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is set to pick up after Peter Parker’s (Holland) identity was exposed in ‘Far From Home’.
