  • Tiger census report released, India has 70 percent population of the world

Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and Minister of State Babul Supriyo released the tiger census report at the National Media Center on Tuesday. India alone accounts for 70 percent of the total tiger population worldwide. It is noteworthy that a network of cameras has been laid in India for this work and it has been praised for its unprecedented effort in the world.

    Proud of tiger population

On this occasion, the Union Environment Minister said, ‘India is proud of its tiger population. The country today has 70 percent of the world’s tiger population. We are ready to work with all 13 Tiger Range countries in the actual management of tiger reserves. There are 30,000 elephants and 3000 one-horned rhinoceros in India. ‘ The Union Minister said, “In the tiger census 2018, about 3.5 crore photographs were taken by camera trap in the forests, out of which 76,651 were of tigers and 51,777 were of leopards.” The Union Environment Minister further explained, ‘For the first time in India, we used the LIDAR survey technique, which would give a description of the forest area where water can be worked.’

    Global tiger day

On this occasion last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to fulfill India’s resolve to double the number of tigers before the world, four years ahead of schedule. Significantly, in 2010, the Heads of Government of tiger-area countries in Russia signed a declaration regarding tiger conservation. In this, all countries had resolved to double the number of tigers in their range of tiger area by 2022. Meanwhile, it was also decided to celebrate July 29 as Global Tiger Day across the world. Since then, Global Tiger Day is being celebrated every year to create and spread awareness on tiger conservation.

Let us know that Prakash Javadekar took over the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change last year and Babul Supriyo was also appointed as Minister of State in the same ministry.
