    After the last phase of voting, Congress MP & candidate from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram said that the exit polls were deeply unscientific, he added last year the majority of exit polls got the results wrong in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, BJP will lose significantly in Karnataka and they certainly won’t gain in Kerela and Tamil Nadu. Shashi Tharoor said, “…We have been travelling throughout the country campaigning and have a sense of what is the reality on the ground. Exit polls are deeply unscientific.     Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), April 11 (ANI): Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor on April 11 denied receiving any defamation notice sent against him by BJP’s LS Candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Shashi Tharoor said that he hasn’t received the notice yet and when it shows up it will get a suitable reply. He said, “I have not received the notice. God knows which address he sent it to…At some point, it will show up and it will get a suitable reply. It should be pointed out that I at no stage made any specific allegation. I merely said that this is the talk of the town, not just of the town but the coastal belt as well and that people are talking about this practice happening…I’ve heard this from various people, including people of some prominence in the local community…I have an election to fight. If this is the way they or somebody on their behalf wants to do it, all I can say is I’m glad they’re pumping money into Thiruvananthapuram’s economy.

This election is about the performance of the sitting MP and about which govt has delivered. Opposition parties don’t want to discuss performance, the economy but everything else.”

  • First Revenue Minister of Kerala, KR Gouri Amma passes away

    The first Revenue Minister of Kerala and JSS leader KR Gouri Amma passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where she was admitted due to age-related ailments. She was 102.

    KR Gouri had recently stepped down from the state general secretary post of the Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS). She held the post since the formation of the party in 1994.

    The party was formed after Gouri was expelled from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1994. She served as Revenue Minister in the first EMS Namboodiripad government and introduced the revolutionary Land Reforms Bill in 1957.

    She also was a minister in the communist-led ministries in Kerala in 1957, 1967, 1980 and 1987. She also became Agriculture minister in the Congress-led government from 2001 to 2006.

    She also played a key role in drafting and presenting the Women’s Commission Bill in 1987. One of the longest serving politicians in Kerala politics, Gouri entered politics at a young age and during a time when women hardly did so.

    Born in born in Cherthala in the Alappuzha district, she actively participated in trade union and peasant movements and was jailed on a number of occasions. She was elected to the Travancore Council of Legislative Assembly in 1952 and 1954 with an overwhelming majority.

    After forming JSS, she joined the United Democratic Front (UDF) and was minister in AK Antony and Oommen Chandy cabinet. Later, she had left the UDF.
