  • Around 40 furniture godowns gutted in major fire in Thane, no casualty

    THANE: Around 40 godowns of wooden furniture were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a wholesale market selling these items at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a civic official said on Saturday.

    Nobody was injured in the blaze that started around 11 pm on Friday at the Mahalaxmi Furniture market located near Kasheli toll plaza, he said.

    “The fire broke out at one of the furniture godowns, which quickly spread to the adjoining storerooms.

    Around 40 of these units were completely destroyed in the incident,” chief of Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) Santosh Kadam said.

    On being informed, the fire brigade personnel from Thane and Bhiwandi, a team of the RDMC and fire engines rushed to the place, he said.

    “The fire was brought under control by 4.45 am today,” Kadam said, adding that the cause of the fire was being probed.

  • Maharashtra: Fire on skywalk at Mira Road Railway Station; no casualties

    MUMBAI: A small fire erupted on a skywalk, which was shut for public amid the COVID-19 lockdown, at Mira Road Railway Station in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Friday evening, and no casualties were reported in the incident, an official from the Western Railway said.

    The blaze broke out during the peak hours around 6.30 pm on the skywalk in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s (MBMC) jurisdiction at the southern end of the railway station, the official said.

    Although the incident caused panic among peak hour travellers, there were no reports of injury to any commuter, he said A short circuit in the junction box installed for mobile network towers could have caused the fire, he said.

    The MBMC’s fire brigade immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames within minutes, the official said, adding that the train services remained unaffected due to the incident, and there were no damages to railway property.

  • Fire guts two rooms in Thane hostel, no injury reported

    THANE: Ninety inmates of a hostel in Sonale in Thane district were brought out safely on Monday evening after a fire broke out in the facility’s kitchen and gutted two rooms, an official said.

    The blaze started at around 8:10pm and four fire-tending vehicles of Bhiwandi Nizampura and Kalyan Dombivali civic bodies were deployed to douse it in an hour, he said.

    “The students in the four-storey hostel panicked and some were about to jump from the ledges. However fire brigade personnel managed to convince them to drop the idea. No one was injured in the incident,” said chief fire officer Rajesh Pawar.

    He said the hostel complex has some safety issues, including the kitchen being allowed to function from it.

  • Maharashtra: Major fire engulfs godown in Thane district

    THANE: A major fire broke out at a logistics godown located in a village near Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra in the early hours of Wednesday, a civic official said.

    No casualty is reported, he said.

    The blaze erupted around 4:30 AM and it is yet to be brought under control even after four hours, said Santosh Kadam, who heads the Region Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

    Two fire engines and a jumbo water tanker were rushed to the spot in Amane village, around 20 kms away from Bhiwandi.

    The cause of the fire will be investigated, Kadam added.

  • Fire in Thane residential building, 32 electric meters gutted

    THANE: A fire broke out in an electricity meter box room of a housing complex in Maharashtra’s Thane city in the wee hours of Tuesday, a civic official said.

    At least 32 electric meters were completely destroyed in the blaze, he said, adding that no person was injured.

    The fire broke out around 1.45 am in the power meter box room located on the ground floor of the residential building in Kalwa area, Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Santosh Kadam said.

    A fire engine was rushed to the spot and the flames were doused in an hour, he said.

    “No one was injured. At least 32 electric meters were gutted in the blaze. The power supply to the building was affected due to the fire,” the official said.

    Officials of the power supply company and police also reached the scene and a probe was underway to ascertain the cause of the blaze, he said.

  • Maharashtra: 4 shops gutted in fire in Thane, no casualty

    THANE: Four shops were gutted in a fire in a shopping complex in Maharashtra’s Thane city early Sunday morning, a civic official said.

    No casualty was reported, he said.

    The fire broke out in the shopping complex located in Noopur building at Lokpuram in Pawar Nagar area around 5 am, Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said.

    Four shops, including a mini supermarket, a stationery store and a boutique, were completely destroyed in the blaze, he said.

    A fire engine and a team of the RDMC rushed to the spot and the flames were doused within an hour, he said.

    No one was injured in the fire, the official said.

    A probe was underway to ascertain the cause of the blaze, he added.

  • Fire at private hall in Maharashtra’s Thane; no casualty

    THANE: A fire broke out in a hall used to hold spiritual discoursesin Maharashtra’s Thane city on Wednesday, a civic official said.

    No one was injured in the blaze which erupted around 12.

    15 am in the private hall located in Panchpakhadi area, Thane civic body’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam said.

    The premises was destroyed in the blaze, he said, adding that three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused by around 2.30 am.

    A probe into the cause of the fire is underway, he added.
