South African cricketer Senuran Muthusamy achieved a career milestone on Sunday, marking his maiden Test century against India in Guwahati. The 31-year-old all-rounder, recently recognized as ICC Player of the Month, reached the three-figure mark with a resilient 109 off 206 deliveries. Playing at the Barsapara Stadium, Muthusamy found strong support from wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne and the formidable Marco Jansen, who provided crucial partnerships. The packed stadium witnessed a historic moment as Muthusamy expressed his delight in contributing significantly to the team’s first innings total. He described the feeling of scoring a century in front of a large crowd as ‘really special,’ emphasizing the importance of setting a solid foundation. Muthusamy, born in Durban, has South Indian Tamil roots and represents the ‘Born Free’ generation of South Africa. His journey in cricket began at school level, eventually leading him to a professional career after pursuing a degree in media and marketing. He has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, representing KwaZulu-Natal and the Dolphins franchise. His international career began with a Test debut against India in 2019, where he notably dismissed Virat Kohli. Despite early challenges, Muthusamy has staged a strong comeback, cementing his place in the Proteas squad with his valuable all-round contributions and economical spin bowling, particularly effective in subcontinental conditions.

KL Rahul delivered a memorable performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, achieving a century after an eight-year wait, timed to perfection. On a sunny Friday in Ahmedabad, Rahul scored his 11th Test century, a milestone made even more special because it was his first on Indian soil since 2016. His innings, marked by precision and maturity, served as a reminder of the faith Indian cricket has maintained in him despite his career’s ups and downs. Resuming play with an overnight score of 53 not out, Rahul displayed grace and patience, reaching his century in 190 balls. The innings was characterized by touch, timing, and a clear drive, showcasing Rahul at his best. This performance brings the 33-year-old from Karnataka to a total of 10 Test centuries as an opener, surpassing Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. He now sits among the top Indian openers, behind only Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and Murali Vijay. Last week, Rahul showed similar resolve, scoring 176 not out in a 412-run chase against Australia A in Lucknow, his first First-Class century in India since his 199 against England. His recent form indicates that Rahul is rediscovering his rhythm and his place in the team. With this century, Rahul reinforces his role in India’s Test setup, providing valuable stability as the team undergoes a transition. This hundred was a statement that, despite past challenges, Rahul remains an essential player, and India needs his composure now more than ever. The match was between India and West Indies, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with Rahul scoring his century in 190 balls, as India responded to West Indies’ 162. Rahul’s last Test century at home was in December 2016 against England. As he acknowledged the cheers, there was a visible sense of reflection on his journey and the challenges overcome.

In the Leeds Test, KL Rahul delivered a stellar performance in India’s second innings, hitting a remarkable century. He scored a magnificent 137 runs, contributing significantly to India’s score of 364. This performance set a target of 371 runs for England. This was Rahul’s 9th Test century overall.

Rahul’s innings etched his name in the record books. He now has three Test centuries in England, the most by an Indian opener in the country. This surpasses legendary Indian batsmen such as Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Ravi Shastri, and Rahul Dravid, who each had two Test centuries as openers in England.

Rahul’s performance also established him as the second-highest Indian opener with five Test centuries in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia), following Sunil Gavaskar. He also overtook former Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar, who had four centuries in SENA countries.

Additionally, Rahul has become the fifth-highest Indian century-maker in SENA nations, behind Sachin Tendulkar, who leads with 17 centuries. Rishabh Pant also contributed with his 8th Test century, scoring a free-flowing 118. Rahul and Pant shared a match-winning 195-run partnership, helping India reach 364. By the end of Day 4, England was at 21 without loss, still trailing India by 350 runs.

Rishabh Pant has seemingly rediscovered his form, delivering a performance that echoes his earlier brilliance. Following a remarkable Test century, Pant has equaled former India captain MS Dhoni in a significant achievement. This was Pant’s 7th Test century, and his 4th against England. On the third day of the opening Test, Pant took a crucial catch, contributing to his entry into an elite list of Indian wicketkeeper-batters with 150 Test catches.

Pant has now joined Dhoni and Syed Kirmani as the only wicketkeepers to reach this milestone. Pant achieved 150 catches in 44 matches, while Dhoni took 90 matches to claim 256 catches and Kirmani secured 160 catches in 88 games. Pant’s recent performance included him surpassing MS Dhoni as the most prolific Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in a Test game, scoring his seventh on the second day of the first Test at Leeds. Pant reached the milestone by hitting a six off Shoaib Bashir. This century was his first since September 2024, when he scored 109 against Bangladesh.

Dhoni scored 4,876 runs with 6 tons and 33 fifties in 90 Tests, averaging 38.09. Pant, in 44 Tests, has scored 134 runs off 134 balls (12-4; 6-6), 3000 runs in this inning, and 15 fifties with an average of almost 44. Wriddhiman Saha, Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer and Nayan Mongia are also featured in the list of notable Indian wicketkeepers.
