  • Six terrorists killed in 48 hours in Kashmir security operations

    SRINAGAR: The killer of a police official was among the six terrorists neutralised in the last 48 hours in four anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

    Police said based on specific information generated by them regarding the presence of a terrorist in the village Kalan Sirgufwara area of Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police and army’s 3 RR on Saturday.

    “During the search operation, as the presence of terrorist got ascertained, he was given ample opportunities to surrender. However, he denied the surrender opportunities and instead fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which retaliated leading to an encounter,” police said.

    In the ensuing encounter, the trapped terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter.

    “He has been identified as Faheem Bhat, a resident of Kandipora, Anantnag affiliated with proscribed terror outfit ISJK. It is pertinent to mention that the killed terrorist had recently joined terror outfit ISJK and was the main accused behind the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near Police Station Bijbehara,” police said

    Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from his possession.

    Pertinently, in the last 48 hours, joint teams of police and the security forces neutralised six terrorists in four successful anti-terrorist operations without any collateral damage.

  • Pakistani terror suspect arrested, arms recovered

    NEW DELHI: Police have arrested a 40-year-old Pakistani national, who allegedly has ISI links and is involved in a plot to carry out a terror attack here, from east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area and seized arms and ammunition from his possession, officials said on Tuesday.

    Mohammad Ashraf alias Ali, a resident of Pakistan’s Punjab province, came to India via Bangladesh and had been staying in the country for 10 years after obtaining Indian identity cards through forged documents, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said.

    He was posing as a ‘maulana’ (religious preacher) and was arrested on Monday night, the DCP said. Ashraf was recruited by the Pakistani spy agency ISI directly after he completed his schooling and was trained for six months, he added.

    Officials said Ashraf was in contact with an ISI handler whom he identified as Nasir and was supposed to get information about the planned terror attack. He has changed five-six locations in a span of 10 years, they said.

    He never stayed at any specific location for long and to acquire documents, he also got married to a woman here, they said. At his instance, an AK-47 and several other arms and ammunition have been recovered.

    Ashraf has been arrested under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act and Arms Act, the police said.

    Police suspect that he is part of a terror module. Further investigations are on including if a lone wolf attack had been planned, they said.

  • Top TRF terrorist arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba

    JAMMU: A top terrorist affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), wanted in connection with the killing of three BJP workers and a policeman in south Kashmir last year, was arrested in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

    Zahoor Ahmad Rather alias “Sahil”, “Khalid” was hiding in Samba district of Jammu region and was arrested on a specific information by Anantnag police, a senior police official said.

    The TRF is an offshoot of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit and the arrest of Rather comes a week after police arrested self-styled commander of Lashkar-e-Mustafa Hidayatullah Malik alias “Hasnain” from Kunjwani area of Jammu.

    Rather, a resident of south Kashmir, had reportedly moved to Samba to receive an arms consignment from Pakistan and was arrested from his rented accommodation in Bari Brahmana area during a joint raid by Anantnag and Samba police, the official said.

    Terming the arrest of the top terrorist as a “major breakthrough”, he said he was involved in the killing of three BJP workers in Kulgam and a policeman at Furra village in south Kashmir district last year.

    Security officials said Rather had undergone arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2004 and infiltrated into India along with five foreign terrorists.

    However, he surrendered in 2006 but got recycled into militancy last year after joining the TRF.

    The interrogation of the captured terrorist is underway and some more arrests and recoveries are expected at his disclosure, the official said.

  • Pakistan to invite PM Modi for SAARC summit in Islamabad: Report

    Pakistan Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be invited to Islamabad for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit, Dawn reported.

    The last summit of the leaders of the eight SAARC countries was convened in Kathmandu in late 2014.
