  • Two terrorists killed in separate encounters in Kulgam & Pulwama

    SRINAGAR: Two terrorists were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

    Acting on specific information regarding the presence of a terrorist in village Khandipora area of Kulgam, a cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces there, a police spokesman said.

    During the search operation, as the search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the forces, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter, he said.

    However, in order to evacuate the civilians trapped around the encounter site, the forces ensured the evacuation of all civilians to the safer places, the spokesman said.

    In the ensuing encounter, a categorized terrorist identified as Rasiq Ahmed Ganie, resident of Shouch Kulgam of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter, he said.

    As per police records, the killed terrorist was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police/security forces, and civilian atrocities, the spokesman said.

    Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including a 303 Rifle along with 23 rounds, a pistol along with 31 rounds, a hand grenade etc., were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation, the spokesman said.

    Meanwhile, another terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out in Pulwama district of south Kashmir later in the day. The gun fight broke out in Drabgam area of the district, the spokesman said. One terrorist has been killed, the spokesman said, adding, the operation was on.

  • Two civilians injured in encounter in J&K’s Shopian

    SRINAGAR: Two civilians were injured during an encounter between security forces and militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, police said.

    “During initial cordon & search operation, #terrorists fired upon civilians and tried to escape, in which two #civilians got #injured. Both the injured shifted to hospital. One of them is critical. Cordon strengthened, details shall follow,” Kasgmir Zone Police tweeted.

    The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Pandoshan area in Shopian following information about the presence of militants there.

    The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened firing on the security forces, who retaliated.

  • Pakistani terrorist among two ultras killed in encounter in J&K’s Kulgam

    SRINAGAR: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist from Pakistan was among two ultras killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.

    Acting on a specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in the Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation there, a police spokesman said.

    As the security forces personnel approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them. The security personnel effectively retaliated leading to a gunfight, he said.

    “In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit LeT, including Pakistani terrorist commander Haider, was killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site. The other killed terrorist has been identified as Shahbaz Shah of Kulgam,” the spokesman said.

    Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Kashmir Vijay Kumar called the operation a big success and congratulated the joint team for eliminating the wanted Pakistani terrorist, Haider.

    Incriminating materials and arms and ammunition, including an AK-56 rifle with four magazines, a pistol with a magazine and one UBGL, were recovered from the site of the encounter, the spokesman said.

    According to police records, Haider was a categorised terrorist who was active for more than two years in north Kashmir and had recently shifted his base to south Kashmir, he said.

    “The killed terrorist was part of groups involved in several terror crimes, civilian atrocities and various killings, including recent killings of police personnel Mohammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad in November last year at Gulshan Chowk Bandipora.

    “He was also involved in an attack on a naka party near Nishat Park Bandipora in February this year in which SPO Zubair Ahmad attained martyrdom while four other security personnel were injured,” he said.

    Shah was a “hybrid terrorist” and was involved in the killing of Satish Kumar Singh, a civilian belonging to minority community, on April 13 in Kakran of Kulgam. “After this attack, the said terrorist was categorised,” the spokesman said.

  • Two hybrid terrorists arrested in Jammu and Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: Security forces on Sunday arrested two ‘hybrid’ terrorists in Kulgam and Sringar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

    “#KulgamPolice & Army ( 34 RR) arrested one #hybrid #terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT namely Yamin Yousaf Bhat of Gadihama Kulgam,” the Kashmir Zone Police said on its Twitter handle.

    The police said incriminating material, arms and ammunition, including a pistol, two grenades and 51 pistol rounds were recovered from his possession.

    Another ‘hybrid’ terrorist was arrested from Nowgam area of the city here, the police said.

    “On a specific input, Srinagar Police & (50 RR) arrested a hybrid terrorist namely Sheikh Sahid Gulzar of Muchhwa, Badgam from Nowgam, Srinagar,” the Srinagar Police said in a tweet.

    Incriminating material including a pistol and live ammunition was recovered from him, they said.

    A case has been registered under relevant sections, they added.

    Officials had earlier explained that a ‘hybrid terrorist’ carries out a task given to him by his handlers and then goes back to his normal work, waiting for the next assignment.

  • One terrorist killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora, operation underway

    AWANTIPORA (Jammu and Kashmir): One terrorist has been killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Tral area of Awantipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, said police.

    “Awantipora Encounter Update: 01 terrorist killed. Operation in progress. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

    The encounter began earlier today between security forces and terrorists in the Tral area of Awantipora district. Further details are awaited.

    Earlier on Monday, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police in a joint operation apprehended a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in the Ladoora area of Rafiabad, Sopore. 

  • Terrorist hideout busted near LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, huge cache of arms seized

    JAMMU: Security forces busted a terrorist hideout in a village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition, officials said on Monday.

    The hideout was unearthed during a joint search operation by the army and police in Noorkote village, the officials said.

    They said the arms and ammunition seized from the hideout included two AK-47 assault rifles with two magazines and 63 rounds, one 223 bore AK shape gun with handgrip, its two magazines and 20 rounds and one Chinese pistol with a magazine and four rounds.

    However, no one was arrested during the operation which was carried out late Sunday evening based on a specific information, the officials said.

  • Terrorists hurl grenades at CRPF camps in Shopian, Pulwama in JK, three personnel injured

    SRINAGAR: Terrorists hurled grenades at two CRPF camps in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, injuring three personnel, police said.

    The attacks came on a day the paramilitary force held its 83rd Raising Day parade in Jammu.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the CRPF Day event, held for the first time outside the national capital. “At about 8:10 pm, terrorists hurled a grenade upon the camp of 178 Battalion of the CRPF at Babapora in Zainapora area of the south Kashmir district of Shopian,” a police official said. He said one personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured in the attack.

    In another attack, terrorists threw a grenade at the camp of 180 Battalion of the CRPF at Nowdal in Tral area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, the official said. He said two CRPF troopers were injured in the explosion.

  • Shah reviews security situation in J&K, calls for proactive operations against terrorists

    JAMMU: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and laid emphasis on proactive operations against terrorists and choking their logistical and financial support systems.

    Shah said the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism completely in order to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.

    Shah, who is on a two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the security situation here with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officers of the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration, an official spokesman said. He appreciated the improvement in the security situation, reduction in terror incidents from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and decrease in the number of slain security forces personnel from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.

    Shah emphasised on proactive operations against terrorists and denying them safe haven or financial support. He directed the security forces and the police to ensure real-time coordination for effective counter-terrorism operations and monitoring activities of terrorists from jails.

    The minister ordered further strengthening of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu and Kashmir to counter narco-terrorism, the spokesman said.

  • Three LeT terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in J&K’s Srinagar

    SRINAGAR: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, who were involved in the recent killing of a sarpanch in Khonmoh, were killed in an encounter with security forces on the outskirts of the city here in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

    The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation at Nowgam early in the morning after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, a police spokesperson said.

    He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the forces, who retaliated.

    “In the ensuing encounter, three categorised terrorists were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site of the encounter. They were identified as Adil Nabi Teli, a resident of Galchibal Chandhara, Pampore, Shakir Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Ronipora, Shopian, and Yasir Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Kujer Frisal, Kulgam,” the spokesperson said.

    “According to police records, the slain terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and were active since 2021. They were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on police and security forces and civilian atrocities,” the spokesperson said.

    The three men were involved in the killing of the sarpanch in Khonmoh on March 9, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said, adding that they used to carry out attacks on Panchayati Raj institution members and protected persons.

    “The killing of the three terrorists is a huge success for the police. We have busted all the modules involved in the recent killings of sarpanches, CRPF personnel etc., including that of a Territorial Army soldier of Budgam,” the IGP said.

    He said the slain ultras were planning to carry out an attack on security forces on the national highway. “Pakistan does not want the democratic process or development to continue. So they are targeting panches and sarpanches. But we are giving them a befitting reply. We are identifying them, arresting them or neutralising them in encounters,” Kumar said.

    The police spokesperson said Teli, along with his associates, was also involved in the killing of Inspector Pervaiz Ahmad Dar at Menganwari Nowgam in June last year and in the killing of Javaid Ahmed Malik at Lurgam Tral.

    Besides, he was involved in a grenade attack on a joint party of police and the CRPF at Barbarshah in Srinagar, in which one civilian was killed and three were injured.

    Tantray and Wagay were involved in several terror crime cases, including the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near the Bijbehara police station in Anantnag in December last year.

    Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including an AK rifle, three AK magazines, 14 AK rounds, two pistols, four pistol magazines and six pistol rounds, were seized from the site of the encounter. All the seized materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

  • Jammu and Kashmir: Two terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Srinagar

    SRINAGAR: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces here in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

    Based on a specific input generated by the police regarding the presence of terrorists in the Rangpora Zakura area of Srinagar, a cordon-and-search operation was launched there, a spokesperson said.

    “During the search operation, as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said.

    In the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter, the official said. He identified them as Ikhlaq Ahmad Hajam of Kujer Frisal, Kulgam, and Adil Nisar Dar of Malangpora, Pulwama.

    Both were linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT /TRF (The Resistance Front) – a shadow of the LeT, the spokesperson said. As per police records, he said, Hajam was active since June 2021 and Dar since August 2021.

    “Both were categorised terrorists and part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attack on police and security forces and civilian atrocities. Besides, they were also instrumental in motivating the gullible youth to join terror folds and reviving the OGW network,” he said.

    The spokesman said Hajam was the mastermind behind the recent killing of head constable Ali Mohammad at Hasanpora Anantnag on January 29. He was also involved in an IED blast on the Qaimoh-Yaripora road on January 18.

    Incriminating materials, and arms and ammunition, including two pistols and five hand grenades, were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

    Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar congratulated the Srinagar Police for carrying out the anti-terrorist operation in a professional manner without any collateral damage, the spokesperson said.
