DUSSELDORF (Germany): Taylor Swift won big at Sunday’s MTV EMAs. Swift who led the nominations along with Harry Styles with seven a piece, walked away with four wins including for best artist, best video and best longform video.

Currently topping the charts with “Anti-Hero” from her record-breaking new album “Midnights,” Swift made a surprise appearance at the awards in Dusseldorf to collect her haul, the latest in a long line of accolades for the singer-songwriter. Accepting her first award of the night she said “the fans are the only reason any of this happens for me.”

David Guetta and Bebe Rexha opened the show with their hit collaboration “I’m Good (Blue),” a track that nearly didn’t get released.

Rexha explained on the carpet “we had no idea that it was gonna blow up and be so viral on TikTok. And here we are performing it and nominated for ‘Best Collab.’”

Hot on their toes were Muse who returned to the EMAs for a fiery performance of “Will of the People,” later winning best rock act. They dedicated their award to the people of Ukraine and the women of Iran.

This year’s show was hosted by newlyweds Rita Ora and Taika Waititi. Ora didn’t disappoint with a host of outfit changes and Waititi joked he was channeling his inner popstar.

An absent Nicki Minaj also came out on top with a trio of prizes for best song, best hip-hop and a category called super freaky girl. Styles, who is currently touring in the U.S., won for best live performance.

Following their Eurovision win in May, Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra gave one of the most powerful and moving performances of the night, turning the auditorium blue and yellow in support of Ukraine. Talking on the red carpet frontman Oleg Psyuk explained that with their new found fame they could support and spread awareness of the plight of the Ukrainian people

“It’s important for us to be a voice of Ukraine, to have opportunity to be all over the world, to perform and to say about Ukraine, to say about war, to say about our culture, culture that fights against war.”

British rapper Stormzy performed ballad “Fire Babe,” released this week from his highly anticipated third album “This is What I Mean.”

OneRepublic performed their “Top Gun: Maverick” tune “I Ain’t Worried,” with a special video intro from the man himself, Tom Cruise, which they said wasn’t easy to get.

Other performers on the night included Ava Max who sparkled in a giant diamond singing “Million Dollar Baby” and Tate McRae who performed a medley of her hits, “she’s all i wanna be’ and ’uh oh.”

Voted for by the fans, 17 gender-neutral categories were announced during the evening. The show, broadcast from the PSD Bank Dome, will be shown in more than 170 countries.

  • Taylor Swift’s 10th album ‘Midnights’ crashes Spotify

    By AFP

LOS ANGELES: Taylor Swift’s 10th album “Midnights,” marking a gradual return to pop for the US singer-songwriter, sparked an online fan frenzy following its witching hour release on Friday — and crashed Spotify in the process.

Swifties from the United States to France and Britain were forced to wait patiently for hours to get their first earful of Swift’s latest sound on the streaming platform — released at the stroke of midnight.

Despite the technical problems, the hugely anticipated work set a record as the most-streamed album in a day, Spotify said.

“And before the clock could even strike midnight on October 22nd, Taylor Swift broke the record for most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history,” the platform said on Twitter.

“How did I get this lucky, having you guys out here doing something this mind blowing?!,” the singer tweeted in response.

The album’s 13 songs tell “the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Swift explained on Twitter.

Together, they form “a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour.”

Once all Spotify issues were resolved — mostly within the hour — enthusiasts discovered melodies set to an electro-pop beat, complete with synths, dubstep-inspired rhythms and a more androgynous side to Swift’s vocals.

The 32-year-old, who began her career in country before shifting to pop and becoming a megastar, abandons her more recent indie-folk vein in the new album.

The pop sound marks a departure from “Evermore” and “Folklore,” her two previous albums which were written during the pandemic, the latter of which won Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys.

In “Midnights,” which includes the smooth vocals of Lana Del Rey in the duet “Snow on the Beach,” Swift evokes a certain dreamy mystique, complete with nighttime ruminations — her reflections on growing older and the complications of love.

For the most part, the midnight album has bewitched critics.

It was warmly received by The Guardian which called it a “cool, collected and mature” compendium, “packed with fantastic songs.”

One caveat, however, has been its lack of a catchy title song: “It’s hard to spot anything that sounds like a smash hit on Swift’s third muted collection in a row,” The Independent newspaper lamented.

True to Swift form, the songstress had a surprise up her sleeves for her loyal fans. She released an extended 20-song version at 3:00 am on the East Coast titled “Midnights (3am Edition).” The seven extra ballads, she said, were “songs we wrote on our journey to find that magic 13.”

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Blake Lively has confirmed she is expecting her fourth child with actor-husband Ryan Reynolds.

In an Instagram post, the 35-year-old actor also blasted the paparazzi for queuing up outside her home to get pictures of her.

“Here are photos of me pregnant in real life so the 11 guys waiting outside my home for a sighting will leave me alone. You freak me and my kids out,” Lively wrote along with photos of her with her friends and family, where she is showing her baby bump.

The photos included one with her friend Taylor Swift and in another, she is embracing her older sister, Robyn Lively.

Lively thanked the people who abide by the “No Kids Policy” of celebrities, which urges media outlets to stop buying photos from paparazzi of stars’ kids.

“Thanks to everyone else for all the love and respect and for continuing to unfollow accounts and publications who share photos of children. You have all the power against them. And thank you to the media who have a ‘No Kids Policy. You all make all the difference. Much love!” she concluded.

Lively revealed her pregnancy on Thursday after she appeared at the 10th Annual Forbes Power Women’s Summit on Thursday. The actor posed for the shutterbugs in a sequined long-sleeved mini dress flaunting her baby bump.

Lively and Reynolds, 45, are already parents to daughters James, seven, Inez, five, and Betty, two. They have been together since 2010 when they met and starred together in the Warner Bros/DC superhero film “Green Lantern”. The couple tied the knot in 2012.

While Lively was last seen in the 2020 film “The Rhythm Section”, Reynolds recently starred in “The Adam Project”, the 2022 Netflix movie.

  • Taylor Swift wins top prize, announces new album at MTV Video Music Awards

    By Associated Press

Taylor Swift took home the top prize at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday before she closed out the show with a surprisingly big announcement: Her new album.

“I thought it would be a fun moment to tell you that my new album comes out Oct. 21,” said Swift after she won video of the year for her project “All Too Well: The Short Film” (10 minute version), which claimed best long form video and direction. “I will tell you more at midnight.”

Swift said on social media that her upcoming 10th studio album would be called “Midnights,” which she says will involve “stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” Her upcoming album comes after she released “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Both projects came out five months apart two years ago. “Folklore” won album of the year at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

The pop star’s reveal came at the end of her acceptance speech where she praised the other women in the category – which included Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo.

“I know with every second of this moment that we wouldn’t be able to make this short film if it weren’t for you – the fans,” she said. “I wouldn’t be able to re-record my albums if it wasn’t for you. You emboldened me to do that.”

Swift spoke earlier about creating her first short film, giving thanks to several including actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien who starred in the project.

“We put our entire hearts into this,” Swift said.

Rapper Jack Harlow made his mark throughout the entire show. He kicked off the show with a performance inside a mock airplane walking down aisle while performing his hit song “First Class,” which was sampled by Fergie’s “Glamorous.” The rapper joined Fergie onstage – who wore a sparkling silver dress with the red words “First Class” – while she sang her 2006 jam.

“Thank you to Fergie for coming out with me tonight and clearing this song,” said Harlow after “First Class” won the award for song of the summer later in the show. “The beauty of this song is that people don’t realize it’s so hip-hop because of the sampling. To bring Fergie into the mix in this way means the world to me. It’s truly full circle. ‘Glamorous’ was one of the most important songs of my childhood.”

During the show, Depp made a surprise appearance as the Moon Man nearly three months after the verdict in his defamation trial with his former wife Amber Heard. The 59-year-old actor appeared to float from the ceiling while wearing the iconic astronaut outfit with his face digitally inserted into custom’s helmet.

“And you know what? I needed the work,” Depp told the audience at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Lizzo had Taylor Swift dancing out of her seat while she performed her new single “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).” Lizzo won an award for video for good for “About Damn Time.”

Harlow’s name was called to come right back onstage to collect the show’s first award for his guest appearance on Lil Nas X’s song “Industry Baby,” which won for best collaboration, art direction and visual effects. Harlow, Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar each entered the awards tied for leading nominees with seven apiece.

“This one is for the champions,” said Lil Nas X before Harlow thanked him for the collaboration on the chart-topping single.

Harlow, in addition to performing and winning awards, joined LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj as the show’s hosts.

Minaj performed a medley of her career’s biggest hits from “Roman’s Revenge,” “Chun-Li,” “Moment 4 Life,” “Beez in the Trap,” “Anaconda” and “Super Bass.” After her set, the rapper accepted the show’s Video Vanguard award, which MTV has said she’s receiving for her artistry, barrier-breaking hip-hop and status as a global superstar. The honor is named after Michael Jackson.

During her acceptance speech, Minaj paid tribute to other music icons such as Jackson, Whitney Houston and Lil Wayne. She spoke about the importance of mental health.

“I wish people took mental health seriously, even when you think they have the perfect lives,” said Minaj, who later won best hip-hop for her song “Do We Have a Problem?” featuring Lil Baby.

Harry Styles won album of the year for “Harry’s House.” He was unable to attend the awards due to his show at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Bad Bunny performed his hit “Titi Me Pregunto” from Yankee Stadium after he won artist of the year.

“I have been saying it and I always believed from the beginning that I could become great,” he said. “That I could become one of the biggest stars in the world without having to change my culture, my language, my jargon. I am Benito Antonio Martínez from Puerto Rico to the whole world, thank you!”

Eminem and Snoop Dogg brought the metaverse to the VMAs as the duo performed “From the D 2 The LBC,” which was featured on Eminem’s greatest hits album “Curtain Call 2.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage as the recipients of the Global Icon award after being introduced by Cheech & Chong as their “favorite band of all time.” The band – which consists of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante – performed several songs including their classic “Can’t Stop” from the the group’s 2002 album “By the Way” and their recent hit “Black Summer,” which won best rock.

Flea made a speech about his love for human beings along with cockroaches, trees and dirt. Smith, the band’s drummer, dedicated the award to Taylor Hawkins, the late Foo Fighters drummer who died early this year.

“I dedicate this to Taylor and his family,” he said. “I love them and I miss him every day.”

Madonna, who is the most awarded artist in MTV history with 20 wins, became the only artist to receive a nomination in each of the VMAs five decades. She earned her 69th nomination for her 14th studio album “Madame X.”

  • Taylor Swift hit with USD 1 Million copyright lawsuit

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Taylor Swift has been slapped with a copyright lawsuit by an author who claims the pop singer plagiarized her work.

According to Page Six, Swift is being sued for more than USD 1 million by Teresa La Dart, who claims that the singer plagiarized her 2010 self-published book of poetry, ‘Lover,’ for the companion booklet for the 2019 ‘Lover’ album.

On August 23, La Dart filed a complaint in a federal court in Tennessee accusing Taylor of plagiarizing her book of ‘poems, tales, and images.’

Page Six further reports that the complaint stated that each work is a “recollection of former years immortalized in a combination of literary and graphical components,” in addition to sharing the same title.

La Dart also asserted that the colour scheme and graphic style used by Taylor are too similar to be a coincidence. Taylor is currently involved in another copyright dispute with her popular song ‘Shake It Off.’

Page Six reports that Swift allegedly borrowed lyrics from the 2001 song ‘Playas Gon’ Play,’ which was performed by the girl group ‘3LW’, according to songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler. The 2017 lawsuit was initially dismissed but has since been reopened on appeal.

Taylor, however, vehemently denied stealing any lyrics in a sworn deposition.

LOS ANGELES: Following the commercial success of 2008’s ‘Twilight’, ‘The Twilight Saga’s New Moon’ became one of the most highly-anticipated movies in 2009. Director Chris Weitz has revealed that the Grammy Award-winning artiste Taylor Swift wanted to become a part of “New Moon”, but he shot her down.”The craziest one of all those was to hear that Taylor Swift was a huge Twi-hard,” Weitz said during an appearance on ‘The Twilight Effect’ podcast with Ashley Greene and Melanie Howe, “and Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time and he said, ‘Taylor would like to be in this movie – not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard’.”According to the ‘New Moon’ director, Swift was up for any kind of role in the film, reports aceshowbiz.com.”‘She would be someone at the cafeteria or the diner or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie,’” he recalled his agent informing him. The 52-year-old added of Swift: “She must have been like, ‘Who is this jerk?’” Believing that it’s the best for ‘New Moon’, he added though: “But sometimes you make decisions thinking this is for the best of the film.” Even without Taylor, ‘New Moon’ broke various box office records, earning a total of $709.8 million worldwide.
As for the country-turned-pop superstar, she clearly doesn’t run out of movie gig offers as she has starred in such projects as ‘Valentine’s Day’ where she appears along with the ‘Twilight Saga’ movie hunk Taylor Lautner, ‘The Lorax’ and ‘Cats’. She will next be seen in David O. Russell’s ensemble film “Amsterdam”.

  • Taylor Swift’s team issues clarification after topping list of celebs with highest carbon emissions

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift’s team has responded after a new study showed the singer topping a list of celebrities whose private jets have produced the highest amount of carbon dioxide so far in 2022.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, on Friday, UK-based sustainability marketing firm Yard shared a report revealing that the pop superstar’s jet flew 170 times between January 1 and July 19, totalling almost 16 days in the air.

The aircraft’s total flight emissions were 8,293.54 tonnes of carbon, which is 1,184.8 times more than the average person’s total annual emissions, the study stated.

“Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect,” a spokesperson for Swift told The Hollywood Reporter.

For the study, Yard used data from the Twitter account @CelebJets, which tracks private jet travels from celebrities. The data was compiled from the beginning of 2022 and included the number of flights taken by each star, average flight times, miles and total CO2 emissions.

Other musicians on the top 10 list included Jay-Z, Blake Shelton and Travis Scott, among others.

Earlier this month, Drake took some heat after @CelebJets reported that he flew on a private jet for only 14 minutes from Hamilton, Ontario, to Toronto. The rapper cleared up the controversy by commenting on the Instagram page of @RealTorontoNewz, which picked up the story.

“This is just them moving planes to whatever airport they are being stored at for anyone who was interested in the logistics,” Drake wrote in the comments section, adding, “Nobody takes that flight.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, recently, Kylie Jenner was also criticized on social media for her own private flight from Camarillo, California, to Van Nuys in California.

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: A 35-year-old New York man has been charged with trespassing and stalking charges after authorities stated he entered two New York City residences linked to singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the suspect, who was arrested on Friday, entered one of the residential buildings, located in the city’s Tribeca neighbourhood, on March 26, police said.

Investigators have stated that he walked “through an unlocked door and remained unlawfully” before fleeing on foot when security told him to leave.

According to a spokesperson for the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information, the same person later entered another residential building linked to Swift on June 12. It was located on the same street, and the suspect “made threats through the intercom toward a 32-year-old female.”

Prior to this, Swift had issues with alleged stalkers. The police said a man broke into her Tribeca townhouse and took a nap in 2018. That same year, a Colorado man was arrested outside a Beverly Hills home owned by Swift with a knife, a rope and ammunition, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: On Friday, Taylor Swift’s fans woke up to a pleasant surprise as they saw reports about the singer’s engagement on social media. As per Page Six, Taylor reportedly got engaged to boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

The ceremony took place in the presence of close friends and family members. “Basically immediate family, and trusted, very old friends. Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too,” a source informed. The insider further alleged that Swift only wears her “beautiful ring” in private.

After learning about the “secret engagement” news, fans flooded social media with their reactions. “taylor swift engaged?? omg,” a netizen tweeted. “Listening to the 10 min all too well and finding out Taylor swift might be engaged good morning,” another one tweeted. “Please tell me that the news is true,” a fan reacted.

The rock-solid couple has been dating since 2016, although they rarely share details about their love life. The 10-time Grammy winner and the ‘Harriet’ star have only made a handful of public appearances together over the years.

Joe was even credited under a pseudonym when he collaborated with Taylor on her ‘folklore’ and ‘evermore’ albums. Now it’s to see how lovebirds react to the news about their secret engagement.

  • Taylor Swift says she ‘would love’ to direct a feature film

    By PTI

NEW YORK:  Following the screening of her short film “All Too Well” at the 2022 Tribeca Festival, pop star Taylor Swift said she “would love” to direct a full-fledged feature film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the multiple Grammy winner attended the film gala on Saturday to promote the 10-minute short she directed based on her song of the same name which was released as part of her 2012 album ‘Red’.

“It would be so fantastic to write and direct a feature. I don’t see it being bigger in terms of scale. I loved making a film that was so intimate with a group that was really small and a really solid group of people that I trusted,” Swift said during a discussion with director Mike Mills.

The singer-songwriter also opened up about the process of making her short film “All Too Well”, saying it “started with meddling”. She said she started writing elaborate treatments for her videos and “outsourcing the directing” about a decade ago.

“It felt very natural to extend writing a song and visualising it in my head to making a shot list and storyboarding it and picking who we wanted as the head of each department and who would help put all of this puzzle together,” Swift, who has also directed the music videos for her songs “Cardigan” and “Willow”, said.

The 32-year-old singer said she began directing “almost out of necessity” on “The Man”, the song from her 2019 studio album ‘Lover’.

“My first instinct was to write the treatment, send it out. I wanted a female director to direct it. And all of my favourite female directors were booked and busy, which is great. We love that. That’s fantastic. So I just figured maybe I could do it? I found it incredibly fulfilling.”

She also addressed the challenges faced by female filmmakers. “I’m also extremely aware of my privilege when it comes to being a female filmmaker because I was able to finance this film myself.”

“I have to constantly be aware that, as much as it’s a constant challenge for me to be doing something new, I also understand that it’s still extremely hard for women to make films, and I am always keeping an eye on that reality,” she added. The Tribeca Film Festival closes June 19.
