The mid-size SUV segment is poised for significant activity in the coming years. Capitalizing on the positive response to models in this segment, automakers are planning to launch several cars to challenge the Hyundai Creta, which has been a benchmark for the past decade.

In 2026, Tata Motors, Kia, and Renault are planning to launch their mid-size SUVs. In the case of Tata, the new Sierra will arrive alongside the already existing Curvv in this segment, while Renault plans to make a comeback with the new generation Duster. On the other hand, Kia plans to launch the second-generation Seltos because the current model has been in the market for more than seven years, and in the meantime, it has also received some updates. Let us tell you about it in detail.

Tata Sierra

In early 2026, Tata will launch the Sierra with a completely new look, that too, for the first time as an electric vehicle. It will be sold with two battery options and is claimed to have a range of over 500 km on a single charge. The ICE variant will also come in the months following the launch of the electric vehicle, and it will have a new 1.5-liter turbo petrol and a 2.0-liter diesel engine.

New-Gen Kia Seltos

The second-generation Seltos, which has been seen during testing many times, will reach dealerships around the first half of 2026, with many cosmetic changes and a new cabin. Its exterior will feature new design headlamps, DRLs, and bumpers, as well as new tail lamps and alloy wheels, while there will be new features inside the cabin.

New Renault Duster

The return of the Duster nameplate will be early next year and it will be based on the new global Duster. It will be completely based on the CMF-B architecture, and a Nissan variant will also be launched. At least two petrol engines are expected initially, and a hybrid engine may also be included later.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is currently in Morocco, where he is engaged in bilateral discussions with Moroccan officials. A key highlight of his visit is the inauguration of India’s first overseas defense manufacturing facility in Casablanca, Morocco. This trip underscores the growing defense partnership between New Delhi and Rabat.

Morocco is proving to be a strategic entry point for India’s efforts to boost defense exports across Africa. Through this overseas defense factory, India aims to accelerate its defense exports to African nations.

The new defense manufacturing unit in Morocco has been established through a partnership between the Indian company Tata and the Moroccan military. The primary function of this unit is the production of a special type of military vehicle known as the 8×8 Wheeled Armored Platform (WhAP). These vehicles are designed to operate effectively on all types of terrain, including water.

The unit will initially manufacture vehicles for the Moroccan army. Subsequently, it plans to produce more vehicles for sale to other African countries. This project is significant as it marks Africa’s first factory producing defense products for India. It also supports India’s goal of self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). The unit is projected to manufacture approximately 100 vehicles annually, employing around 350 people. Additionally, some parts of the WhAP will be manufactured in India.

The upcoming three months promise to be exciting for the Indian automobile sector, with several new models ready to hit showrooms. In the sub-4 meter SUV segment, Hyundai, Renault, and Tata have plans to launch the new-generation Venue, updated Kiger, and Punch facelift, respectively.

The new Renault Kiger facelift is scheduled to launch on August 24th, while the third-generation Hyundai Venue will be available for sale starting October 24th. The launch date for the new Tata Punch facelift is yet to be announced, though it is expected to be launched just before the Diwali season.

Renault Kiger Facelift
Official teasers have revealed a slightly updated rear profile of the new Kiger. This compact SUV is expected to have some minor changes inside and out, while retaining the existing 1.0-liter naturally aspirated and turbo petrol engines. Like the current model, it will also offer a CNG option as a retrofit. The interior of the 2025 Renault Kiger may feature a new freestanding touchscreen, new seat upholstery, and trims. Most of the cosmetic changes will be at the front.

New-Gen Hyundai Venue
The new-generation Hyundai Venue, codenamed QU2i, will see significant updates in styling and interior. Features like ventilated front seats, a larger display screen, a panoramic sunroof, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) could be part of the updated feature kit. The 2025 Hyundai Venue will borrow some design elements from the Creta and Alcazar. The new-generation model will come with the existing 1.0-liter turbo, 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol, and 1.5-liter diesel engine options.

Tata Punch Facelift
Both Tata Punch and Punch EV are set for a mid-life update in October 2025. Spy photos suggest that the updated Punch will have a new design front grille, slim headlamps, and a new LED DRL signature. It may also get new design alloy wheels. This compact SUV is expected to feature a new two-spoke steering wheel taken from the recently launched Altroz facelift, a larger touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a touch-based HVAC control panel. The 2025 Tata Punch will retain the existing engine setup.
