As Tamil Nadu gears up for its April 23 assembly polls, cracks are emerging in the DMK-led front over seat allocation. The powerhouse party has drawn a hard line, telling allies to greenlight the seat-sharing plan by March 23 or face setbacks in campaign preparations.

Time is of the essence with nominations just around the corner. Despite marathon discussions, holdouts persist among VCK, CPI(M), and DMDK, who find DMK’s numbers insufficient for their ambitions.

Thol Thirumavalavan’s VCK has led the charge publicly, venting frustration via video over skimpy seat offers. Insiders suggest backchannel diplomacy is still active, fostering hope for compromise.

CPI(M) leaders, post-strategic huddles, are grappling with a proposal lighter than hoped, yet to deliver their stance. Fresh entrant DMDK emphasizes consensus on both quantity and geography of seats.

Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s MNM has snubbed DMK’s symbol-sharing bid, committing to its iconic torchlight. This standoff underscores the fragile dynamics within the alliance, where unity is paramount to challenge the opposition effectively.

Stakeholders are pushing for resolution, knowing prolonged discord could erode voter confidence and hand advantages to competitors in the fiercely contested state.

As Tamil Nadu gears up for Assembly polls, the NDA alliance under AIADMK has locked in a bold seat-sharing pact. AIADMK claims the lion’s share with 160-170 seats, positioning itself…

As Tamil Nadu gears up for Assembly polls, the NDA alliance under AIADMK has locked in a bold seat-sharing pact. AIADMK claims the lion’s share with 160-170 seats, positioning itself to form government without leaning heavily on partners. This comes amid intense backroom negotiations triggered by EPS’s Delhi meetings with BJP top brass.

The formula marks a leap for BJP, eyeing 30 constituencies compared to 20 previously. PMK bags 17, AMMK nine, and TMC three. Allies might adopt major party symbols, adding tactical depth. Nominations kick off March 30, ending April 6, heightening the stakes.

Drawing from 2021’s setbacks, where AIADMK led opposition but lacked numbers, this plan targets winnable seats to surpass the 118 majority. Shah’s oversight ensures seamless coordination. Internal shifts in PMK and AMMK’s inclusion inject fresh energy, making the contest unpredictable. Voters watch closely as alliances reshape the battleground, with NDA betting big on unity and dominance.

New Delhi buzzed with Tamil Nadu politics as AMMK general secretary TTV Dinakaran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This high-level huddle signals accelerating preparations for the state polls, where the NDA aims to topple the DMK government.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Dinakaran clarified the agenda: no seat-sharing details were hashed out, but extensive talks on alliance synergy across Tamil Nadu’s 234 seats. The goal? Ironclad unity and effective voter outreach to secure victory.

Shah’s strategic inputs were a highlight, according to Dinakaran, who anticipates smooth closure on seat distribution in Chennai over the coming days. “Everything is progressing harmoniously,” he assured, hinting at imminent public disclosures.

Dinakaran reiterated the NDA’s aggressive stance against DMK’s alleged mismanagement, forecasting strong public backing for an AIADMK-helmed administration. He brushed off Stalin’s criticism of NDA leaders’ Delhi trips as desperate pre-poll rhetoric.

As negotiations wrap up, NDA’s poll playbook is solidifying. This coordinated push could reshape Tamil Nadu’s landscape, promising a fiercely contested election season with high stakes for all players.

As Tamil Nadu braces for assembly polls, AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran has poured cold water on speculations surrounding VK Sasikala’s return to the NDA alliance. In a candid statement from Chennai on Saturday, he clarified that no such move is on the cards.

The announcement follows Dhinakaran’s high-profile Delhi trip earlier this week. He engaged in key conversations with BJP heavyweights, including a Saturday meeting with Amit Shah and prior talks with Piyush Goyal, the party’s Tamil Nadu overseer.

Observers view these interactions as critical to NDA’s election strategy. Insider reports suggest the dialogues delved into seat allocations, priority seats, and AMMK’s symbol usage in the campaign.

Dismissing hype around seat deals, Dhinakaran told media, ‘Our chat with Shah was about electoral unity, not specifics on seats.’

On Sasikala, his position was unequivocal: no plans to accommodate her in the coalition. This shuts down prospects for the ex-AIADMK coordinator’s NDA involvement anytime soon.

Dhinakaran didn’t hold back criticism of the DMK regime, asserting Delhi trips by opposition figures rattle them. He touted central aid to the state—Rs 12 lakh crore in 12 years—and promised seamless fund flows under NDA influence.

Parallel moves include Anbumani Ramadoss’s anticipated Shah meeting, underscoring multi-party NDA coordination. Goyal’s rescheduled Chennai arrival on Sunday hints at intensifying preparations.

With formal alliance pacts pending these preliminaries, Tamil Nadu’s opposition is aligning for a formidable challenge to the incumbents, potentially reshaping the state’s power dynamics.

In a major boost to the NDA’s election preparations, AIADMK chief E.K. Palaniswami revealed plans to wrap up seat-sharing discussions with the BJP and fellow allies in just four days.…

In a major boost to the NDA’s election preparations, AIADMK chief E.K. Palaniswami revealed plans to wrap up seat-sharing discussions with the BJP and fellow allies in just four days. Made during a media interaction on Friday, the update underscores accelerating momentum in coalition negotiations for the Tamil Nadu legislative polls.

Palaniswami quashed speculations of friction within the alliance ranks. He assured that all parties would soon agree on a viable formula. ‘In four days, you’ll know everything. We’ll confirm the seats for each party,’ he promised, highlighting the hassle-free nature of the ongoing dialogues.

Prioritizing electoral success, the seat distribution will factor in each partner’s proven capabilities and winning prospects. ‘Our goal is to assign seats where allies have a solid chance of winning,’ Palaniswami explained, outlining a pragmatic strategy to bolster the front’s overall performance.

This comes a day after his strategic huddle with Amit Shah in the national capital, focusing on Tamil Nadu’s dynamic political scenario and campaign tactics. Piyush Goyal, BJP’s point man for the state, may arrive Saturday to push the agreement over the line.

Firmly rejecting alliance rumors with Vijay’s TVK, Palaniswami reiterated, ‘No discussions have taken place with TVK. Such news lacks foundation.’ He made it clear that the NDA framework is finalized, leaving no room for new entrants.

On the Shanmugam-Nayanthara row, the leader called for an end to the debate. ‘He has acknowledged his error and expressed regret. We should move on,’ Palaniswami noted.

With elections on the horizon, this timely pact could reshape Tamil Nadu’s political battleground, positioning the NDA as a formidable challenger to the incumbents.

Chennai’s election buzz intensifies as the Election Commission cracks down on voter absenteeism in private workplaces. In a landmark order, all factories and firms in Tamil Nadu must offer paid…

Chennai’s election buzz intensifies as the Election Commission cracks down on voter absenteeism in private workplaces. In a landmark order, all factories and firms in Tamil Nadu must offer paid leave on April 23, the day of assembly polls. Counting follows on May 4, but the focus now is on ensuring every worker casts their ballot without penalty.

Why this sweeping directive? Many employees, especially in industrial belts and service industries, skip voting due to work pressures. The Commission is putting an end to that, making it obligatory for bosses to release staff for polling. No exceptions, no excuses—it’s the law.

Violators face the music: labor authorities will oversee compliance, probe grievances, and slap penalties. Companies are advised to rearrange shifts smoothly, balancing business needs with civic duties. This policy levels the playing field for blue-collar workers who can’t afford a day’s pay cut.

Echoing across states like Kerala, Puducherry, and West Bengal, the initiative underscores the EC’s commitment to inclusive democracy. Beyond mandates, there’s a heartfelt call to action: turn out in droves, make your voice heard. Higher participation isn’t just a goal—it’s the bedrock of robust governance.

As Tamil Nadu gears up for a fiercely contested election, this employee-friendly reform could tip the scales toward record turnout, proving that democracy thrives when accessible to all.

As Tamil Nadu braces for Assembly elections, BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan dropped a major update: the party’s manifesto draft is complete. In an IANS interview Thursday, she confirmed a high-level meeting is underway to polish the document, attended by top brass.

This session will debate and decide the manifesto’s highlights, from economic policies to social welfare. Soundararajan stressed the party’s dedication: ‘No shortcuts; we want a robust, people-centric agenda finalized by evening.’ Post-meeting, the draft heads to national leaders for the green light.

The leader also championed NDA’s secular credentials. ‘Our PM celebrates every festival, uniting the nation. Sadly, CM Stalin skips greetings for majority festivals, prioritizing minorities alone,’ she lamented. This, she argued, undermines true secularism, which demands fairness across communities.

On Congress, Soundararajan reacted sharply to Kharge’s Deve Gowda comment. ‘He loved Congress but married NDA—today, Congress is a sinking ship. Its workers have no hope left; veterans are defecting.’ Rahul Gandhi faced her ire too: a leader who’s flopped at rallying his base or leading effectively in Parliament.

BJP’s proactive manifesto move signals its intent to challenge the ruling DMK, promising equitable growth and cultural harmony in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai’s political landscape heated up on March 18 as BJP’s Minority Morcha arranged an iftar gathering, prompting Vellore Ibrahim to publicly pledge Muslim votes for the NDA in Tamil Nadu’s assembly polls. The event underscored BJP’s strategic push into minority communities ahead of the April 23 voting date.

National secretary Syed Ibrahim, addressing IANS, praised the initiative. ‘The iftar hosted by BJP activists was heartwarming,’ he said. ‘Muslims across the state are committed to backing PM Modi and the NDA to drive India’s progress in these elections.’

Turning his guns on the DMK, Ibrahim accused it of rampant corruption and religious insensitivity. ‘This government mocks the faithful,’ he asserted. ‘It’s time to reject it and march towards inclusive development with NDA’s motto.’

Ibrahim emphasized tangible benefits under NDA governance for Muslims and Christians. ‘Central schemes have delivered real gains,’ he noted. ‘Our mission is to spread awareness and secure votes for a brighter future.’

As Tamil Nadu gears up for single-phase polls on all 234 seats, with 5.67 crore electors including over 12 lakh newcomers, the stakes are high. ‘Victory in Tamil Nadu is certain for us,’ Ibrahim proclaimed.

This development highlights shifting alliances, with BJP leveraging cultural outreach to erode DMK’s base and position NDA as a viable alternative for development and harmony.

Tamil Nadu is leaving no stone unturned for its upcoming assembly elections, allocating 800 crore rupees to guarantee an impartial and efficient polling process. The funds address everything from personnel costs to technological enhancements and public awareness drives.

Polling booth workers, especially BLOs handling on-ground coordination, stand to benefit from hefty payments, with 100 crore rupees projected for their polling day remuneration alone.

Security gets a high-tech upgrade with plans to install 100,000 rented IP CCTV cameras across 75,032 polling booths, enabling live monitoring to curb irregularities. In Chennai, with its 4,079 booths, this setup will be particularly intensive.

For result declaration, authorities are setting up 45-46 dedicated counting halls spanning 234 constituencies, complete with fortified strong rooms for EVMs under round-the-clock watch.

Stringent multi-tier security protocols will safeguard against breaches. The SVEEP initiative is in full swing, offering grants up to 50,000 rupees to content creators and media houses promoting voter education.

This voter contact strategy seeks higher turnout and better-informed choices. Tamil Nadu’s elaborate blueprint, blending logistics prowess with surveillance tech and community involvement, promises a benchmark election marked by accountability and participation.

In a pivotal moment for Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the dominant DMK is poised to finalize its seat allocation with key allies CPI and CPI(M) by Wednesday. With negotiations in the home stretch, the alliance appears set to replicate the 2021 blueprint, underscoring continuity in their partnership.

Reliable sources within DMK indicate a consensus to grant six seats each to the two Marxist outfits, the same as their previous electoral foray. Chief Minister MK Stalin’s input will seal the deal, paving the way for a public declaration.

This comes against the backdrop of the left parties’ gentle lobbying for more seats—one additional for each—to reflect their ground-level strength and role in bolstering the DMK-led SPA. Their pitch emphasizes deserving greater representation in the grand anti-BJP front.

CPI(M) delegates engaged in productive talks with DMK’s allocation panel at Anna Arivalayam yesterday. State secretary P Shanmugam emerged upbeat, noting the panel’s commitment to escalate their ask to Stalin. ‘We’re optimistic about a fair outcome through consensus,’ he remarked.

Though DMK briefly mulled reducing allocations to five seats amid internal huddles, pragmatism prevailed to safeguard coalition stability ahead of the hustings. Analysts believe this resolution allows DMK to pivot rapidly to poll preparations, candidate picks, and outreach drives.

By holding firm on existing terms, the DMK not only averts discord but also honors allies’ inputs without diluting its dominance. This accord fortifies the SPA’s architecture, critical for navigating the high-stakes Tamil Nadu battle where every seat counts in the broader southern electoral calculus.
