Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sunday visit to Madurai marks a strategic move ahead of Tamil Nadu’s assembly polls. With infrastructure investments totaling Rs 4,400 crore on the agenda, the event underscores the NDA’s development blueprint.

Tamil Maanila Congress chief G.K. Vasan expressed optimism, stating that the PM’s Tamil Nadu sojourn would pave the way for electoral victories. His words reflect growing alliance momentum in the state.

BJP’s Tamil Nadu spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad highlighted the palpable energy. ‘From grassroots workers to young voters and social media buzz, enthusiasm is at fever pitch,’ he said. Prasad framed the visit as emblematic of the double engine model’s promise for swift progress in Tamil Nadu.

Key highlights include afternoon inaugurations boosting roads, urban amenities, and southern regional hubs. The day culminates in Modi’s darshan at Subramanyam Swamy Temple around 4 PM, a moment likely to resonate deeply in the politically vibrant state.

Touching down in Chennai Saturday, Modi received a rousing reception from top dignitaries including Governor R.N. Ravi, Minister L. Murugan, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and BJP stalwarts. The broader tour launches Rs 7,000 crore projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, merging policy announcements with rallies and religious observances.

This multifaceted outreach not only accelerates infrastructure but also strengthens NDA’s narrative of unified governance driving Tamil Nadu toward prosperity.

In a major push for Tamil Nadu’s development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched projects exceeding Rs 4,400 crore in Madurai, describing the ceremony as a glorious chapter in the state’s progress.

Speaking to a cheering crowd, he outlined how these projects would enhance connectivity, accelerate economic growth, create employment, and improve living standards for lakhs. Farmers gain better market access via upgraded roads, tourists and devotees enjoy smoother journeys, and industries benefit from swift logistics.

The Centre’s focus on highways has been transformative: over 4,000 km constructed in Tamil Nadu since 2014. Today marked the foundation laying for two critical national highways.

PM Modi spotlighted revolutionary changes in Indian Railways, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where allocations jumped from Rs 880 crore yearly pre-2014 to a projected Rs 7,600 crore in 2026-27—almost nine times higher. The iconic Pamban Bridge, India’s pioneering vertical-lift sea bridge he inaugurated recently, has become a tourist hotspot symbolizing engineering prowess.

Nine Vande Bharat and nine Amrit Bharat trains now operate in the state, their coaches built at Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory, fueling self-reliance and youth employment under ‘Make in India’.

Infra allocations for Tamil Nadu have tripled over ten years, and the upcoming budget continues this momentum with bullet train links from Bengaluru to Chennai and Chennai to Hyderabad—game-changers for South India’s economy. The state joins the ‘Rare Earth Corridor’ for cutting-edge manufacturing and innovation.

Celebrating Tamil Nadu’s cultural legacy, Modi vowed to elevate sites like Adichanallur to world heritage status. With Vision 2047 for a Viksit Bharat, Tamil Nadu stands as a cornerstone. The Centre pledges unwavering support for equitable development and the state’s rise.

Can actor Vijay replicate the political success of film personalities like Pawan Kalyan? Vijay’s rallies draw large crowds, particularly from the youth across Tamil Nadu, potentially posing a threat to…

Can actor Vijay replicate the political success of film personalities like Pawan Kalyan? Vijay’s rallies draw large crowds, particularly from the youth across Tamil Nadu, potentially posing a threat to the ruling DMK party as the state prepares for re-election next year. The DMK is promoting its achievements in economic growth and development, as demonstrated by national statistics indicating significant progress, especially in the manufacturing sector. However, Vijay’s entry into politics introduces an unpredictable element. According to Madras University’s Prof. Ramu Manivannan, new actors may not achieve the same success as previous stars due to entering politics later in their careers. In Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan influenced the political landscape, but Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics are different. The DMK is strongly positioned, while the AIADMK, weakened after Jayalalithaa’s death, seeks to gain anti-establishment votes, supported by an alliance with the BJP. Vijay’s entry could disrupt the existing political equations, potentially impacting various parties, possibly affecting the DMK’s crucial vote bank. Bhagwan Singh, a former editor and political analyst, suggests Vijay’s popularity, especially among the youth, could be detrimental to the DMK. There are speculations regarding Vijay’s backers and motivations, with some suggesting he might be encouraged by the DMK to split anti-establishment votes, while others believe he’s aligned with the BJP. Vijay claims to be independent, advocating for change in the state’s politics. Ultimately, his success hinges on converting his fan base into votes.
