  • Bengal government allows reopening of sporting complexes, stadiums, swimming pools

    KOLKATA: All stadiums, swimming pools and sporting complexes outside of containment zones are set to reopen in West Bengal, with the state government having given its green signal on Wednesday.

    According to a government notification, sporting complexes, pools and stadiums have been allowed to operate at full capacity with immediate effect for outdoor events, provided they follow basic COVID-19 protocols, such as maintenance of social distance and use of masks.

    “Sanitisation of the premises before and after any event, maintaining physical distance and use of masks and sanitisers by all have been made mandatory, even when one is not participating in any event,” it said.

    Currently, there are 1,842 ‘district-wise broad-based containment zones’ in Bengal, as per the state government’s ‘Egiye Bangla’ website.

  • Collector inspects swimming pool under construction, resentment over delay in work

    Collector Yashwant Kumar inspected the under-construction swimming pool near Smriti Van. The collector expressed displeasure with the Municipal Officer Manoj Singh for delaying the work of the under construction swimming pool for the last 5 years and directed to speed up the work. The collector said that the municipal officials present themselves on the spot and complete the construction of the swimming pool in one month. The collector inspected the swimming pools, toilets, filtering plants, etc. under the international level construction. He gave instructions to build a hata around the swimming pool. During the inspection, the collector gave instructions to the contractor and engineer and CMO to put diving in the swimming pool and complete the civil work in 1 month. Municipal Chairman Bhagwan Singh Garhwal and other officials were present during the inspection.
