In a remarkable display of fiscal prudence and administrative overhaul, the Indian government has generated ₹4,405.28 crore through scrap disposals as part of the Swachhta Abhiyan from 2021 to January…

In a remarkable display of fiscal prudence and administrative overhaul, the Indian government has generated ₹4,405.28 crore through scrap disposals as part of the Swachhta Abhiyan from 2021 to January 2026. Announced on Monday, these figures reflect a sustained commitment to decluttering offices and boosting revenue.

DARPG data shows December 2025-January 2026 yielded ₹200.21 crore from scrap, while January’s campaign across 5,188 locations screened 81,322 files from 1,82,000 reviewed. This unlocked 4.34 lakh sq ft of space, prominently from Coal Ministry (1.88 lakh sq ft) and Heavy Industries (62,129 sq ft).

The ongoing 27th Secretariat Reforms initiative analyzes governance enhancements. December’s scrap sales brought in ₹115.85 crore, powered by ministries like Railways, Heavy Industries, and Coal. Grievance redressal hit highs with 90.41% of 5,57,852 complaints resolved, plus MP and state references cleared.

Transaction levels per active file plummeted from 7.19 in 2021 to 4.31 now, thanks to aggressive file reduction. E-governance thrives: 93.81% new files are digital, 95.29% receipts electronic, with 65 ministries at 90%+ e-file adoption and 15 achieving perfect e-receipt scores for January 26 events.

This campaign exemplifies how systematic cleanups can yield financial gains while modernizing bureaucracy, setting a benchmark for efficient public administration.

In a spectacular display of bhakti and patriotism, Narmada Jayanti transformed the ghats of Narsinghpur into vibrant hubs of worship. The revered Narmada River, often called Madhya Pradesh’s lifeline, witnessed an unprecedented rush of devotees on Sunday. Flowing through fertile plains, it sustains agriculture, quenches thirst, and inspires legends that bind the region’s soul.

Pilgrims from far and wide, including those walking barefoot for days, filled every ghat from Satdhara onwards. The air resonated with bhajans, while Republic Day added a tricolor touch – students offered national flags as chunaris to the mother river. This fusion of faith and nationalism painted a unique picture of unity.

At its core, the celebrations promoted eco-conscious reverence. Leaders emphasized that safeguarding the Narmada’s cleanliness is a devotee’s foremost duty. Hundreds pledged to shun plastic waste and maintain spotless ghats, recognizing the river’s role in daily life and ecology.

Among the long-distance travelers was Golu Kushwaha from Lakhnadon tehsil in Seoni. A regular since 2017, he credits the river goddess for boundless blessings. ‘The crowds were so huge this year that roads emptied out,’ he noted, planning annual returns.

Swachhta Abhiyan mentors like Shivani Vishwakarma and Bhagwan Upadhyay led the charge against littering. Vishwakarma pointed to discarded pouches and bottles as affronts to devotion, while Upadhyay quoted, ‘I bow to Devi Narmada’s lotus feet,’ stressing that rituals pale without environmental care. They called for personal pledges: carry back all trash to strengthen both faith and the ecosystem.

The event concluded on a hopeful note, with devotees leaving empowered to protect their lifeline. Narmada Jayanti thus emerges as a beacon for blending spirituality with sustainability in modern India.

The Madhya Pradesh government is set to launch the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhta: Swatantrata Ka Utsav, Swachhta Ke Sang’ campaign, a comprehensive initiative spanning three phases. The primary aim is to encourage every citizen to hoist the national flag at their homes, fostering patriotism and respect for the tricolor. This campaign aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission, promoting cleanliness and water conservation. The government aims to transform this initiative into a mass movement, enabling widespread participation. The campaign will run from August 2 to August 15, 2025, with various activities planned throughout the three phases.

The first phase (August 2-8) will focus on creating a patriotic atmosphere through public programs and discussions centered around the tricolor. Schools, colleges, and public spaces will be decorated with tricolor-themed art and rangoli. Activities like quizzes on the history of the flag, workshops for making tricolor rakhis, and letter-writing competitions will also be organized. Displays of woven art in the colors of the tricolor will be showcased in public areas.

The second phase (August 9-12) will involve large-scale events in the form of a Tiranga Mahotsav. Awareness programs, Tiranga Yatras, and cultural activities will be held at the community level. This phase will concentrate on community engagement, widespread promotion, flag distribution, and ensuring the visibility of the tricolor in public spaces. Events like Tiranga Melas featuring local products, Tiranga-themed concerts, bike/cycle rallies, Tiranga Yatras with high public participation, the sale and proper arrangement of Tiranga flags, human chain formations, and Tiranga anthems are planned.

The third phase (August 13-15) will center on hoisting the tricolor on homes, offices, and vehicles, along with selfie uploads and ensuring the visibility of the flag everywhere. Information will be continuously exchanged with the Ministry of Culture. Flag hoisting events and other significant programs will take place. The tricolor will be displayed on all government buildings, educational institutions, offices, and public places.

The Madhya Pradesh government has made extensive preparations to ensure the success of the campaign. The Culture Department has issued detailed guidelines to all district collectors. The campaign is a collaborative effort involving the Central Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Ministry of Culture, based on the concept of collective celebration and civic unity, integrating the essence of independence with a commitment to cleanliness and water sustainability. This initiative will contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision by ensuring safe water supply, effective water, sanitation, and health, and improved sanitation in rural areas. Activities related to cleanliness and water conservation will be promoted under this campaign.

Various activities will be organized in villages and Gram Panchayats under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-G) and Jal-Jeevan Mission (JJM). These include Swachh Sujal Gaon pledges, community cleaning drives, cleaning of assets, awareness activities, water conservation efforts, and flag hoisting ceremonies on August 15, 2025, at major WASH infrastructure sites, including Amrit Sarovar and public places. These actions symbolize the freedom, dignity, and well-being brought about by access to safe water and sanitation.

Active participation from districts, blocks, and Gram Panchayats will be ensured in this campaign. Local institutions, Gram Jal Seva Samitis, Self-Help Groups, Panchayati Raj institutions, volunteers, and frontline workers will be encouraged to lead and participate in the campaign. Panchayats, Self-Help Groups, school students, Gram Jal Samitis, and frontline workers will be involved. The General Administration Department has issued directives to all Divisional Commissioners, Collectors, and related departments to ensure the success of the campaign.

The campaign extends beyond flag hoisting, bringing patriotism, cleanliness, and environmental protection together. It will be celebrated as a festival in rural and urban areas of Madhya Pradesh, with active participation from school children, youth, and all sections of the community. Tricolor rakhi making and rangoli competitions will promote creativity and patriotism among children and youth.

The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhta: Swatantrata Ka Utsav, Swachhta Ke Sang’ campaign will add a new dimension to the celebration of independence in Madhya Pradesh. It will not only enhance respect for the national flag but also help achieve important social goals like cleanliness and water conservation. The people of Madhya Pradesh are urged to participate with enthusiasm and hoist the tricolor at their homes to strengthen the spirit of patriotism.
