Maruti Suzuki, a leading automotive manufacturer in India, experienced substantial production growth in September 2025. The company’s total production for the month reached 2,01,915 units, marking a 26% increase compared to the 1,59,743 units produced in September 2024. This surge in production was fueled by heightened demand during the festive season and a focus on fulfilling customer bookings.

The compact car segment witnessed the most significant growth, with popular models like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, and Swift experiencing increasing demand. Consequently, the company produced 93,301 units in this segment, a considerable rise from the 68,413 units produced in September of the previous year. This increase underscores the continued preference for hatchbacks and compact sedans among consumers.

Production of SUVs and MUVs also saw a substantial rise, reflecting growing customer interest in these segments. Vehicles such as the Brezza, Ertiga, and Fronx saw a 27% increase in production, reaching 79,496 units, up from 62,752 units in the prior year.

Entry-level and other models, including the Alto and S-Presso, saw a slight increase in production, with 12,318 units produced compared to 12,155 units the previous year. Production of the Eeco van also increased to 13,201 units, up from 11,702 units a year earlier. Maruti’s light commercial vehicle, the Super Carry, also performed well, with 3,599 units produced, surpassing the 3,034 units from September 2024.

Notably, the company did not produce its premium sedan, the Ciaz, during this period, in contrast to the 1,687 units produced in the same month the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki recently released its sales report, revealing total sales of 1,89,665 units in September 2025. However, domestic passenger vehicle sales saw an 8% decline, reaching 1,32,820 units. The company attributes this decrease to inventory management and preparations for the festive season.

Mahindra is gearing up to launch three new SUVs during the festive season. The launch will begin with the updated Bolero Neo and the standard Bolero, both set to arrive on October 6th. Following these, the company will introduce the facelifted Thar 3-door. In addition to these three SUVs, Mahindra is also preparing to refresh its popular XUV700 range, which is slated for launch early next year.

Focusing on the Bolero Neo, this vehicle was previously known as the TUV300 before receiving a new name in 2021. This will be its second facelift, featuring a new grille, slightly modified bumpers, and minor cabin updates. Higher-end variants may include new upholstery and additional features. According to dealer reports, Mahindra has tuned the suspension for a more comfortable ride. The engine is expected to remain unchanged.

Along with the Bolero Neo, Mahindra will also be making minor updates to its popular standard Bolero. While specific details are limited, the updates will include subtle cosmetic changes to the exterior and some interior enhancements to give it a fresh look. The Bolero has been Mahindra’s most reliable vehicle for over two decades and remains a top-selling SUV, particularly in smaller cities and rural areas.

Following the Bolero, the company’s focus will shift to the Thar 3-door facelift. The second-generation Thar, launched in October 2020, has sold over 2.59 lakh units and has been a blockbuster success. This year, the Thar 3-door has accounted for over half of the sales of the entire Thar family, even with the larger Thar Roxx already available. The new facelift version will incorporate several updates from its larger model, such as a premium cabin, soft-touch materials, and a larger infotainment screen in the top variants. Exterior design changes have not yet been revealed, but the engine lineup will remain the same.

The year 2025 is shaping up to be a significant one for the Indian automotive industry. Alongside the growing consumer interest in green and sustainable vehicles, recent GST reforms have made vehicles even more attractive in terms of pricing. This has injected new life into the market, doubling the enthusiasm of buyers. As the final four months of the year begin, the market is buzzing with anticipation regarding new car launches. Automakers are continuously preparing to launch vehicles with new and advanced features. It’s anticipated that at least eight new cars and SUVs will hit Indian roads before the end of 2025.

Upcoming Cars/SUVs:

* Mahindra Thar Facelift: Launching by the end of September.
* Maruti Victoris: Launching before Diwali.
* Tata Punch Facelift: Launching in October.
* New-Gen Hyundai Venue: Launching in November.
* Tata Sierra EV: Launching in November.
* Skoda Octavia RS Sedan: Launching in November.
* Volkswagen Tayron: Launching in November-December.
* MG Majestor SUV: Launching around Diwali.

The updated Mahindra Thar Facelift will be available for sale in the coming weeks. This SUV will incorporate several design elements and features from the Thar Rocks, while also retaining its existing engine-gearbox combination.

The Maruti Victoris has begun arriving at showrooms even before its official price announcement. It is the first Maruti Suzuki car with Level-2 ADAS and the safest car to date, having received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP. This SUV will be available in three engine options – petrol mild hybrid, strong hybrid, and petrol-CNG.

The Tata Punch Facelift will launch in October with some minor design changes and feature upgrades. This will be followed by the launch of the Tata Sierra EV in November, which is expected to use the same powertrain as the Harrier EV.

The New-Gen Hyundai Venue will feature major changes to its exterior and interior, while the existing engine options will remain.

Skoda will reintroduce its performance-oriented Octavia RS Sedan with a 265 bhp, 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine. Imported via the CBU route, this car is estimated to be priced around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors is planning to double its petrol model offerings to maintain market dominance and attract budget-conscious customers. The company is gearing up to launch four new petrol cars in the Indian market this fiscal year, providing customers with more affordable options across both budget and premium segments.

Tata Punch facelift: The Tata Punch, already a top-selling car, is expected to receive a facelift in October. This updated model will feature a redesigned bumper, grill, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior may also see significant changes, including a new digital instrument cluster.

Tata Harrier: The Tata Harrier is likely to be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection petrol engine, capable of producing 168hp and 280Nm of torque. Its launch is anticipated between January and March. Tata Motors may offer this SUV with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

Tata Sierra: The launch of the Tata Sierra is expected early next year. Tata Motors may offer this car with two petrol engine options. A 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection petrol engine variant could deliver 168hp and 280 Nm of torque. There might also be a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated version for customers prioritizing fuel efficiency and affordability. Both engines are expected to come with a 6-speed manual transmission, with an automatic transmission likely to be available at least in the turbocharged engine version.

Tata Safari: The SUV is expected to be launched between January and March, with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This is a three-row model with 6 and 7 seating options, and it remains to be seen if the power and torque will be adequate.

Recent changes in Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations are significantly affecting the automotive market, leaving potential car buyers, particularly those interested in SUVs from brands like Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata,…

Recent changes in Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations are significantly affecting the automotive market, leaving potential car buyers, particularly those interested in SUVs from brands like Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, and Kia, in a state of uncertainty. The GST Council’s 56th meeting led to adjustments in tax rates. Small cars now face an 18% GST, down from 28%, while larger vehicles, including SUVs, are subject to a 40% tax. Electric vehicles (EVs) continue to have a 5% GST. Auto components, regardless of the vehicle type, are taxed at 18%. A small car is defined as one under four meters in length with petrol/CNG/LPG engines below 1,200 cc and diesel engines below 1,500 cc. Cars exceeding these specifications will be taxed at the 40% rate. The new rates could shift consumer preferences towards EVs and hybrids. The impact on vehicle prices will become clear after price revisions. Several auto companies are expected to adjust prices to pass benefits to consumers.
