Freya Davies, a fast bowler for the England cricket team, has unexpectedly retired at the young age of 29. The England Cricket Board announced the decision via a tweet. Davies has chosen to leave cricket to pursue a career as a lawyer. She made her debut in One Day International (ODI) cricket in 2022 and in Twenty20 (T20) cricket in 2023. Davies played 9 ODIs and 26 T20 matches for England.

Davies took a total of 33 wickets in international cricket, with 10 wickets in ODIs and 23 wickets in T20s. Her economy rate in T20s was an impressive 6.84. She also represented two teams in the Women’s 100, taking 36 wickets in 37 matches. This season, she took 8 wickets in 8 matches. She will be playing in the Women’s ODI Cup final, which will be her final match.

Davies was born on October 27, 1995, in Chichester, West Sussex. She made her debut for Sussex at the age of 14. Due to her young age, she was not allowed to play senior county cricket. Davies took her first wicket for Sussex by dismissing England’s veteran player Charlotte Edwards. Davies won several titles for Sussex with her sharp bowling. She won the Women’s County Championship in 2013, and also contributed to victories in 2012 and 2015. In 2019, she was given a central contract by the England Cricket Board even though she was uncapped.

Davies’s journey to this point has seen her study at Brighton College and earn a law degree from Exeter University. Financial challenges often made it difficult to prioritize cricket, but she continued to play with the support of her parents. She also took a break from cricket in 2017 to study law, but she returned and performed well in the Super League. Davies has been out of the T20 team for the last two years and has not been included in the ODI team for three years, which is why she has decided to retire.

England may receive a significant boost with the possible return of star pacer Jofra Archer to the Test setup. Archer, 30, has been included in the Sussex squad to face…

England may receive a significant boost with the possible return of star pacer Jofra Archer to the Test setup. Archer, 30, has been included in the Sussex squad to face Durham. He last played for Sussex in May 2021, with injuries and surgeries delaying his comeback. Archer has since played international cricket in limited-overs formats, including the 2025 Champions Trophy. England selector Luke Wright indicated that if Archer proves his fitness with Sussex, he could be considered for the second Test against India. The news comes as India has dominated the first Test, with Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant scoring centuries. England bowlers struggled in the first innings, with Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue taking four wickets each. Archer’s potential inclusion in the second Test would be a major asset for England.
