Star India batsman Suryakumar Yadav cast his vote during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai on Monday and also urged his citizens to perform their duty as voters. India’s 360-degree batter took to X and shared a picture of him showing off his inked finger, urging people to “shape the future of our nation”.

  • Suryakumar Yadav Injury Update: Star Batter Declared Fit By NCA To Play For Mumbai Indians? Read Here | cricket news

India and MI’s star middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for the upcoming Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 7). Surya will return to cricket action after three months of recovery and rehab at the NCA. The BCCI and staff at NCA did not want to risk the batter’s chances of getting injured again when he returned to action so that’s why they took as much time as possible to analyze Yadav’s fitness.

“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to the Indian Express. Suryakumar Yadav endured a grade II ankle tear during the T20I series in South Africa, initially sidelining him for seven weeks. However, a subsequent hernia injury necessitated surgery, prolonging his absence until now.

The return of Yadav, ICC’s top-ranked T20I batsman, comes as a much-needed boost for the struggling Mumbai Indians. With three consecutive defeats in the IPL 2024 season, skipper Hardik Pandya has faced mounting criticism from fans in every match.

After losing three consecutive matches at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya said that they will continue fighting in the T20 tournament.

In MI’s previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Pandya scored the highest for Mumbai with 34 off 21 deliveries, while Tilak Varma played a crucial knock of 32 runs in 29 balls, taking MI to 125/9 after Rajasthan bowlers absolutely bossed Mumbai batters. in their homecoming match on Monday.

    Pandya took to his official

“If there’s one thing you should know about this team, we never give up. We’ll keep fighting, we’ll keep going,” Pandya wrote on video)

Summarizing the match, after winning the toss, RR opted to bowl first. Trent Boult (3/22) destroyed the MI top-order in the powerplay, reducing them to 20/4. A 56-run partnership between skipper Hardik Pandya (34 in 21 balls, with six fours) and Tilak Varma (32 in 29 balls, with two sixes) brought some order into the innings briefly before MI experienced a collapse again to end at 125/ 9 in 20 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal (3/11) and Nandre Burger (2/32) bowled well for RR and rocked the MI batting line-up with regular wickets, never giving them a chance to breathe.

In the run chase, RR lost openers Jos Buttler (13), Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) while skipper Sanju Samson could make only 12 in 10 balls. Reduced to 48/3, they were in a tricky situation. But Riyan Parag once again performed a brilliant rescue act, scoring 54* in 39 balls, with five fours and three sixes to take his side to a six-wicket win with 27 balls left. Akash Madhwal (3/20) was the pick of the bowlers for MI.

Following the win, the Rajasthan-based franchise stand at the top place of the standings with six points at a net run rate of +1.249. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya’s side are at the bottom of the table and are yet to score points.

  • Sky high: Top show on return for Suryakumar Yadav

    Express News Service

When Mumbai Indians retained Suryakumar Yadav ahead of Ishan Kishan in late 2021, it took quite a few by surprise, especially given the kind of impact the southpaw had in the shortest format that year. The questions only grew louder when the franchise spent Rs 15 crore on Kishan. But the most successful franchise in the league knew what they were doing.

If Kishan is among the most destructive openers going around in T20s, there were very few who offered the adaptability of Suryakumar — maneuver the field and hit spinners across the park at will and accelerate at a strike rate of 175.49 in the last four overs. Much like Kishan, Suryakumar was also at the peak of his prowess in international cricket before an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the Sri Lanka series and the start of the IPL.

Coming into the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai had lost their first two, but their biggest boost was the availability of Suryakumar to counter the threat posed by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. But Umesh Yadav came out of the syllabus, reducing them to 45 for two in eight overs. In his first three, Umesh gave just 12 runs and removed the dangerous Rohit Sharma.

When Suryakumar walked into bat, Narine and Chakravarthy were operating from either end. Over the next 18 balls, Mumbai added just nine runs as Suryakumar watched Kishan fall to Cummins. They were in a spot of bother,  stuttering at 55 for three after 11 overs. The middle-order bat, along with Tilak Varma, took his time, deciding to take the game deep.

They played out one more over of Chakravarthy and when Umesh was brought back for his last over, Suryakumar was batting at nine from 16. It was time to put his foot down and up the ante. Umesh gifted a slower ball and he promptly swatted it to the deep-midwicket boundary.

The next one, a short delivery, was sliced over third-man for a six. It was the first show of intent. But the SKY special was yet to come.

With Varma joining the party, the duo took on Rasikh Salam and Chakravarthy, adding 44 runs between overs 13 and 17. Mumbai were still operating at a run-rate of 6.76 and needed a final push. Suryakumar had progressed to 36 off 29, but this time he was up against Narine, who had conceded just 13 runs in three overs.

The right-hander welcomed Narine with a down-on-one-knee tonk over cow corner for a massive six. A couple of balls later, he rocked back to cut the spinner between gully and deep-point for a four.

If the sweep off Rasikh wasn’t enough, he saved the best against Andre Russell. A quick short-of-length delivery that was too close to cut, but Suryakumar went down a bit, opened the face of the bat and sliced it over third-man to bring up his fifty in just 36 balls.

The SKY everyone knew was there. It was like the injury had no impact on him. Although he got out the next over, Pollard’s 5-ball 22 took Mumbai to 161 for four.

It’s not often an athlete comes up and displays their mastery every time they take the field. Once again, Suryakumar showed that on Wednesday, just like he has time and again whether it’s for Mumbai or India in the last four years.

  • Now you have a bigger role: Tendulkar wishes Suryakumar luck for T20 World Cup

    By ANI

ABU DHABI: Mumbai Indians mentor Sachin Tendulkar has wished good luck to batter Suryakumar Yadav, saying that he has a bigger role to look forward to in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav played a knock of 82 against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday. Mumbai Indians’ management chose him as the Dressing Room Man of the Match.

Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter handle posted a video in which Tendulkar says to Surya: “All the best for the T20 World Cup. Now you have a bigger role.”

Suryakumar Yadav has already said that he is looking forward to the upcoming T20 World Cup and his process and routine will remain the same like it was for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians on Friday finished the IPL 2021 at fifth position. The side ended their IPL 2021 campaign with a 42-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but failed to qualify for the playoffs.

“I am good, I am good (on how he is doing after being hit by a short ball). At the end of the day, the show must go on and you got to keep smiling whatever happens. We had nothing to lose,” Suryakumar told host broadcaster Star Sports after the game against SRH.

“We had a target, we just kept running behind it. The pitch was good. Happy to be on the winning side. It is a big tournament (T20 World Cup). We don’t change anything. The process, routine all remain the same. Really looking forward to it,” he added.

Mumbai Indians had scored 235 in 20 overs against SRH on the back of blistering performances from Ishan Kishan (84) and Suryakumar Yadav (82).

  • Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s shot selection has not been exactly correct: Sunil Gavaskar

    By ANI

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have failed to rise to the challenge in the second leg of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League in the UAE. Not only has their form hurt MI, but also questions have been raised on whether they deserve to be a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad for the showpiece event.

Speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, legend Sunil Gavaskar said: “I think it looks to me like, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have just relaxed a little bit after getting the India cap. They might not have, but some of the shots they are playing — it looks like they are trying to play these big shots just because they are India players.

“Sometimes what happens is, you gotta give yourself a little bit of time, and you gotta get your shot selection right. And I think that is where they have missed this time around, where their shot selection has not been exactly correct, and that’s why they’ve got out cheaply.”

Throwing light on all-rounder Hardik Pandya not bowling in the IPL, the former India skipper said it is a big blow not just for the franchise, but also for the national team.

“Hardik Pandya, not bowling is a big blow, not just for Mumbai Indians, but for India as well, because he was taken in the team as an all-rounder. And if you are in the team, batting at No.6 or No.7, and you’re not able to bowl, then it makes it difficult for the captain. He doesn’t get the flexibility and option, that is so required for somebody batting at No.6 or 7 like an all-rounder.”

The Indian national selectors on September 8 picked the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be hosted by the BCCI in UAE and Oman. In a surprise move, R Ashwin was included in the team which will begin its campaign in the showpiece event against arch-rivals Pakistan. Ashwin had last played a T20I against West Indies in July 2017. Yuzvendra Chahal missed out while MS Dhoni will be the mentor of the team.

Interestingly, RCB spinner Chahal has had a brilliant outing in UAE and has been one of the top bowlers in the second leg of the IPL.

Save Suryakumar Yadav’s 33 off 26 balls, none of the MI batsmen could cross 20-run mark as Axar Patel got 3/21 and pacer Avesh Khan had best figures of 3/15.

Brief scores: MI 129/8 (Suryakumar Yadav 33 off 26 balls, Avesh Khan 3/15, Axar Patel 3/21) vs DC.

  • Hard quarantine awaits IPL players flying to UAE from Manchester

    Express News Service

CHENNAI: After the cancellation of the fifth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, Saturday was an extremely hectic day for all the IPL franchises. They were busy making arrangements to ensure that the India and England players, part of the IPL, join the respective franchises in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as early as possible.

While the Mumbai Indians trio of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav were flown to Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight on Saturday morning, a few players from other teams reached later in the day.

Originally, the IPL-bound players were supposed to travel to UAE from Manchester on September 15, a day after the scheduled close of the fifth Test.

Even though all the Indian players had tested negative for Covid in Manchester, Rohit, Bumrah and Suryakumar were tested upon arrival in Abu Dhabi too and returned negative results again. The players flying from Manchester have to undergo six days of hard quarantine before joining their teams in the IPL bubble.

“The trio (Rohit, Bumrah and Suryakumar), along with their families, arrived on Saturday morning. All members had returned negative RT-PCR results before departure. A new RT-PCR test was undertaken upon arrival at Abu Dhabi, which is negative as well,” the Mumbai Indians said in a statement on Saturday.

The IPL-bound Indian players were initially supposed to enter a bubble in Manchester before the fifth Test in order to facilitate a bubble-to-bubble transfer in the UAE but that did not materialise given the circumstances. They will be tested thrice during the first six days of hard quarantine.

The resumption of the suspended IPL begins with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on September 19. CSK are currently training in Dubai, where they will be joined by five players from the India-England series: Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shardul Thakur, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. “The players are travelling on a commercial flight. They will be able to start training with the team only after completing quarantine,” a CSK official said.

Moeen and Curran might be heading to the IPL, but quite a few English players seem to be reluctant. Jonny Bairstow (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Dawid Malan (Punjab Kings) and Chris Woakes (Delhi Capitals) pulled out of the IPL on Saturday and there seems to be a concern that more England players could potentially pull out. Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer (injury) and Ben Stokes had already confirmed their unavailability for the resumption of the IPL.

A source close to Delhi Capitals indicated that there is uncertainty over Sam Billings and Tom Curran joining the franchise too.

“We are not sure whether Billings and Curran will join us. Woakes has pulled out citing bubble fatigue. He wanted to spend time with his family. We are looking at an Australian left-arm pacer as a possible replacement,” the source told The New Indian Express.

  • Mumbai Indians fly in Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to Abu Dhabi in charter

    By ANI

NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians has flown in skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav along with their families on a charter flight from Manchester to Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning.

They will now undergo six days of quarantine and then will link up with the Mumbai Indians squad. Rohit, Surya and Bumrah tested negative for COVID-19 before departure from Manchester and after arrival in Abu Dhabi.

“Mumbai Indians flew in three of its Indian contingent members, captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, to Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight. The trio, along with their families, arrived today morning and will now undergo 6 days hard quarantine, starting today as per the IPL’s guidelines,” said Mumbai Indians in an official statement.

“All members had returned negative RT PCR results before departure. A new RT PCR test was undertaken upon arrival at Abu Dhabi, which are negative as well,” it added.

Chennai Super Kings players are also expected to land in Dubai on Saturday. “Now that the Test match is off, we are looking to get the CSK boys into Dubai tomorrow,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told ANI on Friday.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is also arranging a charter flight to get Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj into Dubai on Sunday morning, ahead of the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. They will undergo a 6-day quarantine period before joining the team bubble.

“Yes, we have arranged a charter flight for Virat and Siraj, both of them will be flying out at 11:30 PM UK time on Saturday and they will reach Dubai early Sunday morning. Safe transit of players is the utmost priority for RCB. They will undergo 6-day quarantine there before joining the team bubble,” an RCB source told ANI.

Earlier on Friday, the 5th Test match between England and India was cancelled in Manchester. The BCCI and ECB held several rounds of discussion to find a way to play the Test match, however, the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Indian team contingent forced the decision of calling off the game.

The 14th season of the IPL, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume on September 19 in Dubai with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

  • Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav feels playing rubber-ball cricket helped him develop trademark flick

    By ANI
CHENNAI: Mumbai Indians’ in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav has revealed the story behind his trademark flick shot that he plays so effortlessly against the best bowlers of the world.

Suryakumar, who played the knock of 56 off 36 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders, smashed pacer Pat Cummins to almost out of the park as he struck a 99-metre six playing his trademark flick shot at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.

The right-handed batsman shuffled to the off-side and sent the ball flying on the leg side.

When pacer Trent Boult asked how he started playing that shot, Suryakumar said in a video posted by the IPL’s official website, “During my younger days, I used to play a lot of rubber-ball cricket on cemented track and on one side boundary used to be about 90-95 metres so think that shot has come from there. I’m really enjoying the way how I’m going right now and hopefully, continue the same for the team.

“I try to keep things really simple. I don’t complicate things. I know what I have been doing in that position in the last two-three years. I just go out there and express myself,” he added.

Mumbai Indians defeated KKR by 10 runs thanks to an all-rounder bowling performance from the Rohit Sharma-led side. Andre Russell’s five-wicket haul saw Mumbai Indians get bundled out for 152 after batsman Suryakumar’s (56) quickfire knock. In response, KKR was restricted to 142/7.

KKR was right on the track for an easy win but Rahul Chahar spun a web and removed the top four batsmen before Jasprit Bumrah and Boult’s fiery spell handed Mumbai Indians the match.

“Just trying to be clear with the plans we talked about in the meetings. It is probably a little bit intimidating coming up against Karthik and Russell, these players can clear the rope pretty easily. It was nice to cross the line,” Boult said on defending 15 runs in the last over.

Mumbai Indians will next take on SunRisers Hyderabad here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

  • Rohit Sharma always stays calm whenever Mumbai Indians is under the pump: Suryakumar Yadav

    By ANI
CHENNAI: As Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Saturday completed 10 years with the franchise on Saturday, Suryakumar Yadav lauded his captain, saying that Rohit always stays calm whenever the franchise is under the pump.

Rohit had joined MI in 2011 and he started leading the franchise midway the 2013 season. He has led the franchise to five IPL titles with the latest trophy win coming last year.

“When he is batting, he always takes the responsibility on his shoulders. When the team is doing well, everything falls in place, everything looks good. But when the team is under the pump, what a leader does at that time, that is very important. I have seen him at that time, he is very calm,” said Suryakumar in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Indians.

Talking about his stint with Mumbai Indians, Rohit said: “This is my eighth year of captaincy and all these years that I have captained, I have learnt so much from different coaches and players. You meet different individuals at different points of time during a season. There are new players who come into the squad so you try and talk to them. They have different ideas, as a captain you need to give that comfort so that players are comfortable.”

Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond also said that Rohit is his favourite batsman in the world to watch. “He is my favourite player in the world to watch, one of the great things about the IPL is that the best players in the world play this tournament and you get to see him on a day-to-day basis. He is my favourite player just purely on the basis of how easy he makes it look,” said Bond.

Rohit has so far played 156 matches for Mumbai Indians, managing to score 4,079 runs. In the IPL 2021 tournament opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the right-handed Rohit scored 19 runs before being sent to the pavilion via a run-out.

Harshal Patel delivered a stunning bowling performance before AB de Villiers’ masterclass helped RCB defeat Mumbai Indians by two wickets. Patel picked up five wickets (three in the final over) to restrict Mumbai Indians to 159 runs in the allotted 20 overs and as a result, he became the first bowler a take a fifer against Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

In response, RCB got over the line on the last ball, courtesy of some fine hitting by de Villiers in the death overs. For RCB, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers played knocks of 39 and 48 respectively. Skipper Virat Kohli also played a 33-run knock off 29 balls.
