Tensions simmered at Delhi University following chaotic protests against UGC guidelines, prompting Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh to issue a strong plea for reconciliation between students and teachers.

In an official university release, Singh directly addressed the community: ‘I request all faculty members and students to foster goodwill among yourselves. Refrain from deeds that breed animosity or damage the university’s and nation’s image.’

Labeling the Friday disturbance as a matter of grave worry, the VC highlighted DU’s diverse student body representing every corner of India. ‘Upholding social cohesion is our shared responsibility in this vibrant academic hub,’ he noted.

Proactive measures are underway, with Singh holding talks with student leaders, teacher associations, and law enforcement to safeguard campus serenity moving forward.

On the contentious UGC rules pending Supreme Court review, Singh urged restraint: ‘Place your trust in the central government and respect the judicial outcome.’

ABVP’s State Secretary Sarthak Sharma weighed in sharply, pointing to left-wing groups’ demonstrations that allegedly culminated in an attack on a woman reporter. ‘These groups preach women’s empowerment year-round, yet their actions betray their words,’ he charged.

As Delhi University navigates this controversy, the Vice Chancellor’s message resonates: harmony must prevail to protect the institution’s legacy of inclusive education.
