Fifteen Naxalites laid down their arms and surrendered to security forces in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on Monday. This significant development includes nine individuals with a combined bounty totaling Rs 48 lakh, underscoring the impact of ongoing anti-insurgency operations. The group comprised five women and members of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), a key armed wing of the Maoist movement.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed that the surrendered cadres met with senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials. During discussions, the former militants cited the state government’s proactive development and rehabilitation initiatives as their primary motivation. Specific programs like ‘Niyad Nellanar,’ which fosters infrastructure development in remote areas, and the ‘Poona Margham’ (Rehabilitation for Social Reintegration) surrender policy played a crucial role in their decision.

Among the surrendered were four hardcore PLGA members, each with an individual bounty of Rs 8 lakh. These included Madvi Sanna (28) and his wife Sodi Hidme (25), along with Suryam alias Ravva Soma (30) and his wife Meena alias Madvi Bhime (28). Additionally, two area committee members surrendered with Rs 5 lakh bounties each, one carrying a Rs 3 lakh reward, and two others with bounties of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.

To facilitate their reintegration into mainstream society, each surrendering cadre received immediate financial assistance of Rs 50,000. The government is committed to supporting their rehabilitation through established programs. This mass surrender is part of a larger trend, with over 2,150 Naxalites having surrendered in Chhattisgarh over the past 23 months, demonstrating the success of state-led development and peace initiatives.

A CRPF jawan sustained leg injuries following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday. The incident occurred around 1:45 PM near Gogunda, under the Fulbagdi police station limits, during an area domination operation by security forces. Officials reported that the jawan, part of the CRPF’s 74th Battalion, inadvertently stepped on a pressure-activated IED, causing the explosion. He received immediate medical attention at the scene and was subsequently airlifted to Raipur for further treatment. Naxalites frequently use IEDs in the Bastar region’s forests to target security personnel on patrol. This tactic has also endangered civilians in the past. This incident follows a recent deadly IED blast in Sukma on June 9th, which claimed the life of an Additional Superintendent of Police and injured two others.

A major revelation has emerged in the case of poisoning school meals in a government residential school in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. On Wednesday, police arrested the assistant teacher…

A major revelation has emerged in the case of poisoning school meals in a government residential school in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. On Wednesday, police arrested the assistant teacher accused of mixing phenyl in the food of 426 children. According to a police officer, the accused, Dhananjay Sahu, was arrested based on a complaint filed by the hostel superintendent, Dujal Patel. The arrested Dhananjay is an assistant teacher at the government residential Porta Cabin School for students in the village of Pakela in the district.

Police reported that a complaint was filed against him on Tuesday. The complaint alleged that assistant teacher Dhananjay Sahu, due to personal differences with hostel superintendent Patel, mixed phenyl in the vegetable cooked for the school students’ dinner on August 21st.

Afterwards, when a Porta Cabin employee noticed a foul smell in the food and saw empty phenyl bottles nearby, he was shocked. He immediately informed hostel superintendent Patel about this. Subsequently, the food was quickly and safely disposed of. The officer mentioned that Patel informed the senior officials about the entire incident, after which the Sukma District Magistrate ordered an investigation into the matter.

In fact, a dispute had been going on between teacher Dhananjay Sahu and hostel superintendent Dujal Patel for the past year. Initially, the accused teacher Dhananjay Sahu was the superintendent of this hostel. During this time, he had beaten a student. The student sustained serious injuries. After this, Dhananjay Sahu was removed from the post of superintendent. After which Patel was given this responsibility. That’s when he started getting annoyed with him. He committed the act due to this animosity.

Officials stated that Sahu’s role came to light in the investigation. They said that based on the investigation report, Patel lodged a complaint at the Chhindgarh police station, after which Dhananjay Sahu was arrested. The officials said that during interrogation, Sahu confessed to his crime. He told the police that he committed this crime due to some personal animosity with hostel superintendent Patel.

Police reported that Sahu is a resident of Patora village in Durg district of the state. A case has been registered against him under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was presented in court and then sent to judicial remand. Currently, the police are investigating all aspects of this case.

In a significant victory for anti-Naxal operations, 23 Naxals, carrying a combined bounty of ₹1.18 crore, surrendered in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh. The surrender took place on Friday. Among those who surrendered were 8 hardcore Naxals associated with the PLGA battalion. The remaining individuals were active in various other Naxal organizations. The group included 1 DVCM, 6 PPCMs, 4 ACMs, and 12 party members. The group included 9 women and 14 men, including 3 Naxal couples. The decision to surrender was influenced by the Chhattisgarh government’s “Naxalite Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy” and the “Niyad Nella Nar” scheme, alongside the establishment of security camps in remote areas and increasing pressure from the police. The surrendered Naxals had the following bounties declared against them: 11 Naxals with a ₹8 lakh bounty, 4 Naxals with a ₹5 lakh bounty, 1 Naxal with a ₹3 lakh bounty, and 7 Naxals with a ₹1 lakh bounty. This surrender is viewed as a major achievement in the Chhattisgarh government’s Naxal eradication campaign, with the potential to encourage more Naxals to surrender.

In Sukma district, the most remote areas are seeing surrendered Naxalites being provided training in skills like masonry, agricultural entrepreneurship, and others. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma was welcomed by the surrendered Naxalites with shouts of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. The surrendered Naxalites directly interacted with the Deputy Chief Minister, expressing their views. They lauded the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy, noting that their previous life in the Naxal organization was filled with confusion and misdirection. They have now embraced mainstream society and are living a much better life. Due to a lack of knowledge of democratic systems, they had lost their way, but they are now living a better life by surrendering under the government’s rehabilitation policy. They are being trained under skill development to become self-reliant and integrate into mainstream society. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma listened to their experiences and instructed that all necessary documents, including Aadhaar cards, ration cards, Ayushman cards, and bank accounts, should be made in the rehabilitation center itself to ensure they receive all the benefits of the central and state government schemes. He also instructed to incorporate more activities to spread positive energy in the rehabilitation center and to arrange exposure visits to show them the outside world, including visits to cities like Raipur and Jagdalpur. Instructions were given to the Collector and CEO of the Zila Panchayat to make necessary efforts to educate those who have not studied and to include sports, entertainment, and patriotic films in their daily routine, as well as to make special efforts to provide them with a regular source of income. Secretary of the Panchayat Department, Bhim Singh, Commissioner Doman Singh, IG P. Sundarraj, Collector Devesh Kumar Dhruv, SP Kiran Gangaram Chavan, CEO Zila Panchayat Smt. Namrata Jain, State Women’s Commission member Deepika Sori, public representatives Dhaniram Barse, Zila Panchayat member Hungaram Markam, and others were present at the event.

In a heartwarming display of humanity, CRPF jawans participated in a wedding in Puvarti, a village in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, once a stronghold of Naxal activities. The soldiers, stationed for security, stepped in to fulfill the role of brothers to the bride, offering gifts and joining the villagers in the wedding festivities. Puvarti is known as the home village of Hidma, a notorious Naxal commander. During the bride’s farewell, villagers brought her to the CRPF camp so she could meet the soldiers who were protecting them. The CRPF officers and jawans gave their blessings to the bride, gifted her, and celebrated the wedding with dancing and singing alongside the villagers. This event symbolizes peace, trust, and change in an area that has long suffered under the shadow of Naxalism. These instances of trust-building are emerging as a result of the peace and development efforts by the central and state governments. The wedding in Puvarti was not merely a social event but a historic moment that laid the foundation of trust in place of hatred.
