In a move to elevate diplomatic engagement, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed the formal opening of St Kitts and Nevis’s High Commission in New Delhi today. Established since 1983, their cordial relations now gain a sturdy institutional backbone.

Jaishankar, addressing the gathering, traced the roots of this partnership to common historical battles against colonialism and shared democratic ethos, especially as members of the Global South. He praised India’s digital transformation as a model for governance and economy, ready to exchange insights with Caribbean allies.

The new mission, he said, will facilitate ongoing dialogues, smoother arrangements, and deeper knowledge exchange. ‘I’m certain the High Commissioner and team will work hand-in-hand with us,’ Jaishankar affirmed.

Key talks with Foreign Minister Douglas covered ongoing initiatives like the lima beans processing venture and plans for rapid-development projects aiding locals. Health sector cooperation, including emergency medical stockpiles for CARICOM, was a priority.

With tourism driving St Kitts and Nevis’s growth, opportunities for Indian firms were explored. The dialogue extended to deploying Indian expertise in critical areas like healthcare, hospitality, and infrastructure.

Extending congratulations on their CARICOM leadership role this year, Jaishankar underscored the vibrant India-CARICOM partnership. This development heralds expanded collaboration, fostering prosperity across borders.
