Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have taken a significant step by ordering the attachment of immovable property belonging to Mian Abdul Qayoom, the former president of the High Court Bar…

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have taken a significant step by ordering the attachment of immovable property belonging to Mian Abdul Qayoom, the former president of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) in Srinagar. This action is directly linked to a 2009 case involving an alleged anti-India seminar. The property in question is a double-storey residential house located in Bulbul Bagh, Barzulla, Srinagar. It is situated on a plot of land measuring 2 kanals, 1 marla, and 90 square feet. The attachment has been executed under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Investigators have indicated that the property is considered ‘proceeds of terrorism’ based on evidence seized during the probe. This includes incriminating materials found at Qayoom’s residence, such as banned literature and documents associated with militant organizations. The order for attachment was issued by DGP Nalin Prabhat and has been dispatched for immediate implementation. This development follows Qayoom’s previous arrest in 2020 related to the murder of Advocate Babar Qadri.

A search operation is underway in multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, in connection with a case related to terrorism. The raids are being conducted by the Counter-Intelligence Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Authorities have confirmed that the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) is searching eight locations in the valley as part of the ongoing investigation. The targeted areas include Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Pulwama, and Shopian districts. These raids are taking place following warrants issued by a competent court, linked to First Information Report (FIR) number 3/2023.

Prior to this, the Counter-Intelligence Wing has conducted similar raids. In July, search operations were carried out simultaneously in several locations. The army and police in Jammu and Kashmir have been actively working to dismantle terrorist networks for an extended period. Numerous search operations and attempts to infiltrate have been thwarted in various areas of the valley. Police are currently investigating the individuals’ contacts and bases their operations on their activities. Previous raids had revealed suspected connections with various terrorists, including Abdullah Ghazi, a leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba/Jaish-e-Mohammed.

In a separate development, Udhampur police conducted a major raid on a spa center. Several men and women were taken into custody during the operation. The raid took place at a spa center in Ward Number 5, Badia, Udhampur. The operation lasted approximately four hours and involved a significant number of police personnel and senior officers. Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Local residents have expressed their approval of the police action.

National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah attempted to meet Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday, but police barricades prevented access to Singh’s residence at the Government…

National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah attempted to meet Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday, but police barricades prevented access to Singh’s residence at the Government Circuit house in Srinagar. Despite the obstruction, Singh climbed over the gate to converse with Abdullah. Both leaders voiced strong disapproval of the police’s actions, characterizing them as politically motivated and orchestrated by the Lieutenant Governor.

The meeting occurred amidst growing tensions surrounding the detention of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Abdullah urged the government to reconsider its decision, arguing that invoking the PSA against an elected representative was unwarranted. He stated that the district of Doda was already facing challenges, including floods, and this situation had further complicated matters.

While Abdullah acknowledged the Doda MLA’s inappropriate behavior toward the Deputy Commissioner of Doda, he insisted that the MLA’s actions should not have resulted in such severe consequences. Abdullah emphasized the need for accountability from both sides, stating the PSA should be revoked. He also added the MLA should be apologetic for his language.

Sanjay Singh echoed Abdullah’s criticisms, condemning the government’s forceful approach. He asserted that the police’s actions were a clear attempt to suppress dissent and intimidate elected representatives.

Abdullah also welcomed the introduction of goods train services in Kashmir, seeing it as a positive development amid the ongoing disruptions of the Srinagar-Jammu National highway.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh has been placed under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The action was taken to prevent him from holding a protest against the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik. Singh, an AAP Lok Sabha MP, had strongly criticized Malik’s detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA), calling it illegal and unconstitutional. Singh and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Imran Hussain were confined to a guest house in Srinagar. Singh intended to hold a press conference to address Malik’s arrest but was prevented from doing so. Singh himself shared the news of his house arrest on X (formerly Twitter), also mentioning that Dr. Farooq Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, was denied access to meet him. Singh stated that he was in Srinagar to protest the arrest of Mehraj Malik and that he believes it is his constitutional right to speak out for his rights. He also stated that he believes the government had made the guest house a police cantonment.

In a recent statement, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the fear of terrorism and related networks in the valley has diminished significantly. Speaking to members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor revealed that only one local youth has been confirmed to have joined a terrorist organization this year. He highlighted the improved conditions in Kashmir, noting increased investment even in districts like Anantnag and Pulwama. Notably, Pulwama is witnessing the establishment of more industrial units compared to Srinagar. Sinha mentioned that Pulwama, which was once frequently in the news for negative reasons, saw enthusiastic participation from youth in rallies during the Tiranga campaign, demonstrating unity against terrorism. He also pointed out that youth are now actively participating in various activities even from villages where police and government officials previously couldn’t go. Referring to the changes in Kashmir, Manoj Sinha said that Lal Chowk, which used to become deserted after sunset, now remains vibrant even late into the evening.

An Indian Army jawan was assaulted and tied to a pole by toll plaza staff in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, following an argument. The incident occurred at the Bhuni toll plaza, where the soldier, Kapil Kavad of the Rajput Regiment, was en route to Srinagar. He was returning to his post after a holiday and was attempting to reach the Delhi airport to catch his flight. The altercation arose when Kapil and his cousin were stuck in a long queue at the toll plaza, and he approached the staff. A video of the assault went viral on social media, leading to the arrest of four toll plaza workers.

In Jammu and Kashmir, an elected Chief Minister hoisted the national flag at an Independence Day ceremony after a gap of eight years. CM Omar Abdullah unfurled the Tricolor at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar on Friday, becoming the first elected Chief Minister to preside over the Independence Day celebrations in the region. The last time a Chief Minister oversaw the event was in 2017 when PDP President Mehbooba Mufti held the position. The coalition government collapsed in 2018 after the BJP withdrew support from the PDP, leading to Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the ceremony, Abdullah was honored with a guard of honor before inspecting the participating contingents. He then took the salute as various contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Paramilitary Forces, and school children marched past. Abdullah’s cabinet colleagues presided over Independence Day celebrations in other key district headquarters of the state. A cultural program, one of the main highlights of the Independence Day celebrations, was canceled this year to honor those who died in the floods in Kishtwar.

Following the fall of Mehbooba Mufti’s government, President’s rule was imposed in the state. The national flag was hoisted by the Governor in the Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations in 2018 and 2019, while the Lieutenant Governor hoisted the flag in these ceremonies from 2020 to 2024. Notably, there was no elected government in place when Article 370 was revoked in August 2019, and Jammu and Kashmir was converted into two union territories. The administration of the state was then run through the central government or the Governor. After the removal of Article 370, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir at the end of last year, and Omar Abdullah became the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a significant operation named Operation Mahadev, Indian Army Para Commandos achieved a major success in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday. They neutralized three Pakistani terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization. Among the killed terrorists was Suleiman, also known as Asif, who was the mastermind behind the April 22nd terror attack in Pahalgam. The other two terrorists were identified as Yasir and Abu Hamza. A Chinese communication device played a crucial role in tracking the terrorists. The device, called Ultra Set, is an advanced secure Chinese communication system used by the Pakistani army and helped security officials pinpoint the terrorists’ location, leading to their elimination in the operation.
