  • ED, CBI, IT dept have become instruments of political vendetta under Modi govt: Jairam Ramesh

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday alleged that institutions like the ED, the CBI and the Income Tax Department have become instruments of “political vendetta” under the Narendra Modi government and opposition leaders are selectively targeted to destroy their reputation.

The assertion came on a day a special court sent Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to five-day CBI remand after the agency sought his custody for effective interrogation to unravel the alleged scam in the now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.

CBI arrested Sisodia on Sunday after around eight hours of questioning.

Without naming anyone or any particular case, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet, “The Congress has always held the belief that institutions like ED, CBI and Income Tax Department have become instruments of political vendetta and harassment under Modi Sarkar.”

“These institutions have lost all professionalism. Opposition leaders are selectively targeted to destroy their reputation,” Ramesh said.

On Sunday, Delhi Congress chief Anil Chaudhary said Sisodia’s arrest by the CBI in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case is a welcome step.

He had claimed that the AAP “used power to accumulate wealth”.

  • CBI is welcome, conspiracies won’t break me, says Sisodia

NEW DELHI: Conspiracies will not break him or deter his resolve to continue to work for good education, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday as the CBI conducted raids at his residence and 20 other places.

The CBI has arrived and is welcome, Sisodia said on Twitter.

Besides the home of the Aam Aadmi Party leader, the probe agency also searched the residence of IAS officer Arava Gopi Krishna and 19 other locations after registering an FIR in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

“We are hard core honest and are shaping the future of lakhs of children. It is very unfortunate that those who do good work in our country are harassed like this. That is why our country could not become the number one,” Sisodia said.

In a series of posts on Twitter, he said they will extend full cooperation in the probe so the truth emerges soon. “Till now, there have been many cases against me but nothing came out. Nothing will come out in this also. My work for good education in this country cannot be stopped,” he asserted.

Sisodia alleged that people were troubled by the excellent work being done in Delhi in the sectors of education and health.

That’s why, he said, Delhi’s education and health ministers had been caught, a reference to himself and Satyendar Jain who is behind bars. “There are false allegations against us and the truth will emerge in court,” he added.

“I won”t be broken by your conspiracies. I have made these schools for lakhs of children of Delhi. The smiles we brought in the lives of lakhs of children is my strength. Your intention is to break me,” Sisodia said.

Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena last month recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22. He had also suspended 11 excise officials in the matter.

Sisodia had also demanded a CBI probe in the alleged irregularities in the policy.

  • SC intervention behind the decision on free Covid vaccines for all: Sisodia after PM announcement

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that states will be provided free Covid vaccines from June 21, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday said it was done after the Supreme Court’s intervention and blamed the Centre’s policies for which states could not buy doses directly.

His remarks came after PM Modi announced that the central government will provide free COVID-19 vaccine to states for inoculation of all above the age of 18 from June 21, and asserted that vaccine supply would be increased significantly in coming days.

“We express our gratitude to the Hon’ble Supreme Court that after its intervention, free vaccines will be available to all age groups across the country. If the central government wanted, it could have done this long ago, but due to the policies of the Centre, neither the states were able to buy the vaccines nor the central government was giving it,” Sisodia tweeted.

On June 2, the Supreme Court questioned the Centre’s policy of paid vaccination for 18-44 age group, saying it is “prima facie, arbitrary and irrational”.

The top court had pointed out the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and asked the Centre to review its vaccination policy.

  • I’m happy people that country is with farmers, we are with them too: Arvind Kejriwal

Kejriwal is holding a one-day fast in support of the farmers’ protest today. While addressing the people at the hunger strike Kejriwal said that Our farmers are in peril these days. Those who should be tilling their fields are sitting in the biting cold. But I’m happy people in the country including the army, lawyers, actors, doctors, are with them. We are with farmers too.

Senior Delhi government ministers and AAP MLAs, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, are sitting on a ‘hunger strike’ in support of farmers who are protesting against the Centre’s farm laws. Ministers Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai, and party leader Aatishi Marlena are also present at the strike organised at the party headquarters.

This comes after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a one-day fast in support of the farmers’ protest on Sunday.

Supporting the call given by the agitating farmers, he had urged AAP volunteers to join the farmers’ agitation. “Centre should immediately accept all demands of farmers protesting the laws and bring a bill to guarantee MSP (minimum support price),” Kejriwal had said.
