The film ‘Singh Is Kinng’ offered a vibrant cinematic experience, a Punjabi tale that could have potentially spawned several spin-offs. However, a disagreement between director Anees Bazmee and others seemingly halted further projects.

This film presents a captivating and entertaining adventure. Akshay Kumar delivers a remarkable performance as the ‘happy-go-looking’ Happy Singh, transitioning from his Punjabi village to Australia in search of a colleague. His portrayal captures both strength and vulnerability, humor and pathos, reminiscent of Chaplin and Jim Carrey.

Akshay Kumar’s character, Happy Singh, has a simple mission to ‘Get Lucky,’ and he does. Sonu Sood as Lucky Singh, is comatose for a significant part of the film and replaced by Happy Singh as the new Don.

The film is a lively rush of quirky characters and scenarios. Anees Bazmi, as writer-director, retained the comedic style of his earlier hit, Welcome, and crafted a disarming comedy.
The plot weaves an elementary action-adventure narrative. Akshay Kumar adapts his comedic persona to the style, delivering a finely-tuned performance. It’s a showcase for Akshay’s talents. The film is punctuated with moments of subtlety, such as when Happy informs Katrina’s suitor why she must be treated specially.

The narration is a patchwork of crime and culturally-challenged adventure. ‘Rose lady’ pops up in an Australian suburbia offering comfort. However, certain sections are poorly edited, especially those depicting Sikh dons’ charity towards African-Australians. The film is a feel-good film, celebrating screen heroism.
