Sidhu Moosewala murder: Accused Deepak Tinu who escaped from custody nabbed from Alwar
By PTI
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Wednesday nabbed gangster Deepak Tinu, who is an accused in singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder and escaped from Punjab police custody on October 1, from Rajasthan’s Alwar, officials said.
Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) HGS Dhaliwal said Tinu kept changing his hideout after fleeing from Mansa in Punjab.
The Delhi Police carried out extensive operations in different places in the country and finally succeeded in arresting him.
“Five grenades and two automatic pistols have been recovered from his possession. He is being brought to the national capital and his police custody remand will be sought,” Dhaliwal said.
Tinu escaped from the custody of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) unit of the Mansa Police when he was brought on a production warrant from Goindwal Sahib jail in Tarn Taran district in another case, in a major embarrassment for Punjab Police which sacked the officer incharge and arrested him.
During initial questioning, it was revealed that Tinu was helped by gangsters Rohit Godara, who is based in Azerbaijan, and Sampat Nehra and a person named Jack, who is based in Europe and an old accomplice of Anmol Bishnoi in arranging hideouts, the police claimed.
In 2017, Tinu, who faces several cases including murder and extortion in various states, had escaped with the help of another gangster and his aide from Haryana after throwing pepper spray in the eyes of a police official.
Later in December that year, he was arrested by the Bhiwani police from Bengaluru.
Earlier this month, Tinu’s woman companion was held by a team of Punjab Police from Mumbai airport when she was trying to head to the Maldives.
She was with Tinu when he escaped from police custody.
Tinu is among 24 accused who have been charge-sheeted in the Moosewala murder case.
He is a close aide of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and had remained lodged with them in different jails.
Tinu was allegedly involved in the planning of Moosewala’s murder.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29 when he was on his way to Jawahar Ke village in Mansa in a jeep with his friend and cousin.
His vehicle was waylaid and bullets were sprayed on him by six shooters.
After the killing, Goldy Brar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police on Thursday said it wanted to catch alive the two gangsters allegedly involved in singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder and had asked them to surrender but they did not stop firing.
Gangsters Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu Kusa were killed in a nearly five-hour-long encounter with the Punjab Police on Wednesday.
They hid in a building in Bhakna village near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar, according to police. Three policemen and a journalist were also injured.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) M S Bhullar said police had asked the two gangsters to surrender. “We wanted to catch them alive. But when they did not stop firing, they were killed in the exchange of fire,” he told reporters in Amritsar.
Replying to a question, Bhullar said the gangsters were dropped at the building by a vehicle and efforts are being made to trace it.
“During a search by forensic teams, 31 rounds of AK-47, a 45 bore pistol and two magazines were recovered from the building (where the gangsters were gunned down),” the DCP said.
A broken mobile has also been recovered and the forensic teams will examine it, he said. On Wednesday, police recovered an AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm pistol from the gangsters. Asked whether any drugs were recovered from the encounter site, Bhullar said, “We have recovered some tablets and our forensic teams are examining them.” No document has been recovered, he said when asked if any fake passports were found.
The bodies of the two gangsters have been shifted to the Amritsar civil hospital for a post-mortem examination, Bhullar said. Meanwhile, Roopa’s family members reached Amritsar. They said they had disowned him in 2017-18. Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29.

Sidhu Moose Wala murder case: Gangster shot dead in encounter near Amritsar
By IANS
CHANDIGARH: In a major police crackdown on Wednesday, one gangster involved in the killing of famed Punjabi singer was reportedly shot dead on the outskirts of Amritsar close to the India-Pakistan border, while another suspect is holed up inside a farmhouse after over four hours of exchange of fire. Moosewala was gunned down on May 29 close to his native village near Mansa in Punjab.
The operation is carried out by the Anti-Gangster Task Force going on at Bhakna village close to the Attari border, where gangsters Manpreet Singh, alias Mannu, and Jagroop Singh, alias Rupa, both the key accused in Moosewala’s killing, were holed up. However, there is no official confirmation yet about the identity of the slain gangster.
The police said that Manpreet, a henchman of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, along with Rupa, among others, had fired at Moosewala on May 29 which led to the singer’s death on the spot.
Anti-Gangster Task Force chief Pramod Ban had told the media last month that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the main conspirator, had confessed that the plan to kill Moosewala was hatched in August last year to avenge the murder of Vicky Middukhera.
Ban said that 13 people have been arrested in the case so far after the first arrest was made on May 30, a day after the murder of Moosewala.
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Bishnoi gang, had claimed responsibility for Moosewala’s murder.
Ban had said that the shooters had reached Mansa on May 25, the scene of the crime close to Moosa village. “Some of the weapons were provided to them on reaching Punjab. AK series assault rifles were used to gun down Moosewala,” he had said.
