  • Tushar Deshpande’s Instagram Story Adds Salt To RCB’s Wounds, CSK Star Delets It Later | cricket news

In an era where social media blunders are rapidly amplified, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) pacer Tushar Deshpande found himself at the center of controversy following his Instagram story mocking Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After RCB’s defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator, Deshpande’s ill-timed post added fuel to the fire, leading to a backlash that prompted its swift deletion.

    A Heartbreaking Defeat for RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore, riding high on a six-match winning streak, faced a crushing blow as their IPL 2024 campaign ended in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals. Despite posting a competitive total of 172/8, courtesy of valuable contributions from Virat Kohli (33 off 24) and Rajat Patidar (34 off 22), RCB’s efforts fell short. RR’s chase, spearheaded by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive 45 off 30 balls and Riyan Parag’s composed 36 off 26, ensured they reached 174/6 in 20 overs, knocking RCB out of the tournament.

    Deshpande’s Instagram Faux Pas

As RCB fans mourned yet another missed opportunity, Tushar Deshpande’s Instagram story added insult to the injury. The CSK pacer posted a photo of Bengaluru Cantonment railway station with the caption “CSK fans are built different,” subtly mocking RCB’s repeated failures. However, recognizing the insensitivity and potential backlash, Deshpande quickly deleted the post.

Analyzing the Game: RCB’s Batting Woes

RCB’s innings had moments of brilliance but lacked the finishing touch needed to secure a higher total. Kohli’s quickfire 33 and Patidar’s solid 34 laid a promising foundation, but the middle-order struggled to accelerate. Despite a spirited effort, the score seemed insufficient against a resilient RR side. Avesh Khan (3/35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/29) were instrumental in keeping RCB’s total in check.

Rajasthan’s Resilience: Jaiswal and Parag Shine

Chasing 173, RR faced early jitters but quickly found their rhythm with Jaiswal’s aggressive approach. His 30-ball 45 included some stunning boundaries, providing the necessary momentum. Parag’s calm demeanor under pressure was commendable, as he anchored the chase with a crucial 36 off 26 balls. The duo’s efforts were complemented by Rovman Powell’s late cameo (16* off 9), sealing the win for Rajasthan.

Turning Points: Siraj and Ferguson’s Efforts

Mohammed Siraj’s late strikes (2/33) gave RCB a glimmer of hope, dismissing Parag and Hetmyer in quick succession. Lockie Ferguson’s crucial breakthroughs, including the dismissals of Jaiswal and Kohler-Cadmore, momentarily shifted the game’s momentum. However, Powell’s calculated assault in the final overs dashed RCB’s comeback hopes.

The Road Ahead for Rajasthan Royals

With this victory, Rajasthan Royals advanced to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2, setting up an exciting clash for a place in the IPL final. RR’s win, breaking a four-match losing streak, reinvigorates their campaign and showcases their potential to go all the way.

    Social Media’s Double-Edged Sword

Deshpande’s Instagram story serves as a reminder of the double-edged sword that is social media. While it can enhance fan engagement and provide a platform for personal expression, it also requires a level of sensitivity and awareness, especially in the heat of competitive sports. The incident underscores the need for athletes to exercise caution and empathy in their online interactions.

After the defeat, Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting said he would like to retain each and every player of his team for the IPL 2022. “I would like to keep everyone, to be honest. We have got this terrific group of people at the Delhi Capitals. The playing staff and the coaches have done an amazing job for the last couple of seasons and I think our performances so to speak for themselves,” said Ponting during the post-match press conference.

Ponting also said Delhi Capitals failed to utilise the powerplay and were eight to 10 runs short of the good first six overs score in the game.

  • At first, I was pissed: Shimron Hetmyer on Ashwin coming ahead of him to bat against CSK

    By ANI

DUBAI: Delhi Capitals batter Shimron Hetmyer has revealed he was upset when the team management decided to send Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of him to bat in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Hetmyer played an unbeaten knock of 28 off just 18 balls to help Delhi Capitals defeat CSK by three wickets with two balls to spare. With this win, Rishabh Pant-led outfit moved to the top of the points table with 20 points from 13 games.

“I am enjoying playing the role of being a finisher, to be honest. I am trying to be more open to different challenges. Playing for the West Indies, is about batting in the top-four, here it is a different challenge for me and it has been really fun,” Hetmyer told teammate Ashwin in a video posted on iplt20.com.

“At first, I was pissed and then it was like for the team. Whatever the team requires, we will do that. At first, I thought you are going to take Moeen Ali out, to be honest, I know you are very well known for slog-sweeping. I was surprised to see you nudging it around,” he added.

In the final over of the innings, the second delivery bowled by Dwayne Bravo landed miles outside off and it did not even hit the pitch. The on-field umpire had ruled it as a wide and everyone was shocked to see the delivery not being termed as a no-ball.

“I honestly thought that was a no-ball. The umpire said that it was not a no-ball because it passed the second line, something like that. I guess I have to google about it,” said Hetmyer.

Earlier, Ambati Rayudu played an unbeaten knock of 55 runs off 43 balls as CSK posted a total of 136/5 in the allotted twenty overs. For Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel returned with figures of 2-18.

Delhi Capitals will next square off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium.

  • I am paid to finish games for my side: Delhi Capitals batsman Shimron Hetmyer

    By ANI

DUBAI: Delhi Capitals batter Shimron Hetmyer has said that he is paid to finish off games for his side and it is a good feeling to be able to do the job against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Hetmyer played an unbeaten knock of 28 runs off just 18 balls to help Delhi Capitals defeat CSK by three wickets with two balls to spare. With this win, Rishabh Pant-led outfit moved to the top of the points table with 20 points from 13 games.

“Very important for me to finish games. I tell the guys that is what I am paid for and I try to finish as many games as possible. I thought I was out (on his dropped catch), and the guy missed it and I was thankful,” Hetmyer told host broadcaster Star Sports after the game ended.

“It was just about getting bat on ball. The 19th over was the one where I thought I’d try and get a six and bring it down as much as possible. I had enough practice against Bravo in the CPL. I knew he would go wide with the field he had and I just looked to go straight down the ground against him. It paid off twice,” he added.

Earlier, Ambati Rayudu played an unbeaten knock of 55 runs off 43 balls as CSK posted a total of 136/5 in the allotted twenty overs. For Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel returned with figures of 2-18.

“It is difficult, but important to assess the lines and the speeds at which we needed to be bowling on this pitch. I thought they were five or ten runs short in the powerplay. The discussion with Hetmyer was about the lines they’d bowl. He told me that they would bowl wide and he asked me to play straight and look for singles. Such matches give you a lot of confidence in the knockouts,” Axar told Star Sports.

Delhi Capitals will next square off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium.

  • Hetmyer has done well for the team this season: Delhi Capitals off spinner R Ashwin

    By PTI

DUBAI: Delhi Capitals senior off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin lavished praise on Shimron Hetmyer, saying that the swash-buckling West Indian has done well for the team this year and his efforts are recognised in the dressing room.

Hetmyer steered DC to a three-wicket win over CSK on Tuesday. “I think more than about 6-8 points needs to go to Hety (Hetmyer), because he has finished games, sometime when you make those 25s and 30s, you don’t quite get the recognition you must, because people are at the top are making the volume of runs. So Hetymer is one of those heroes for us and inside that dressing room, we recognise all these efforts, so yeah, he is in a good space,” Ashwin said at the virtual post-match press conference.

According to Ashwin he has been batting well, ever since he came to the UAE from England. “…I have been batting well and there was a lot of confidence from what happened in the last game, I was little late, I was probably not ready for the ball and little late on the ball and didn’t expect sort of a delivery from him and could have done better, yeah I will learn and move on from it,” the star Tamil Nadu player added.

Ashwin, who has taken five from 10 games this season, said he was satisfied and happy with the way he was bowling.

“There are 24 deliveries that I am allowed to bowl in a game and sometimes I kept on repeating this again and again, to look to go for wickets is not something that you can do in a T20 game, you have to play (to) the situation of the game, my job is to bowl to the best of my abilities in those 24 balls and create wicket-taking opportunities,” he said.

“So sometimes, I feel it is too lop-sided in trying, you can’t put a short-leg, slip, you can’t look to attack and try and get a wicket, so I think the way the ball is coming out and the way I am bowling, I am extremely satisfied and happy,” he added.

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming defended skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the loss. The former New Zealand skipper also said that his side was 10-15 runs short of a match-winning total.

“He (Dhoni) wasn’t the only one. It was a difficult day for stroke-play when 137 was almost enough, it was a tough wicket to score big on, in terms of big shots. So, both the teams struggled with that towards the end of the innings. Probably we were only 10-15 runs short of having a match-winning score,” Fleming said.

“So, that is the difficulty at the moment, is trying to assess what the conditions are in all three different grounds and batting first getting a score, that’s par of just above. The other thing was Delhi attack bowled very well, the last five overs were very smart, so it was tough going,” he said.

  • Many big players of Windies, including Holder, Pollard, quit Bangladesh tour

The top 10 West Indies players, including Jason Holder, Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran, have withdrawn from the forthcoming tour of Bangladesh over the corona virus epidemic and personal reasons. In addition to Holder, Pollard and Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Darren Bravo, Shamrah Brooks, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Evin Lewis and Shai Hope have departed from the tour, while Fabian Allen and Shane Daverich have departed on their own for personal reasons.

In the absence of Holder and Pollard, Craig Brathwaite and Jason Mohammed have been named captains of rest and ODI teams respectively. The West Indies team will reach Bangladesh on 10 January. She will play three ODIs with Bangladesh on 20, 22 and 25 January. After this, Test matches will be played on February 3 and 11. Cricket West Indies said on Wednesday that the Corona policy of Cricket West Indies allows any player to opt out of a foreign tour based on his own safety concerns or concerns. Such decisions will not affect his views for future selection.

  • The juggling of bowling-fielding made the match exciting; Hetmyer took 3 catches, also scored 45 runs

The 23rd match of IPL season-13 saw exciting juggling between bowling and fielding. First Rajasthan Royals bowled brilliantly and fielding, due to which Delhi Capitals could give a target of 185 runs. This was Sharjah’s shortest goal this season. After this, it was the turn of Delhi. He too, with strong bowling and fielding, stopped Rajasthan for 138 runs and won the match by 46 runs.

Delhi batsman Shimron Hetmyer dominated the match. In the first batting, he scored the highest 45 runs off 24 balls for Delhi. After this, he also caught 3 tremendous catches by Steve Smith, Sanju Samson and Shreyas Gopal in the fielding.
