    PM Modi’s Oath Ceremony

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is set to take the oath on June 9 at 7:15 PM. As Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time, several leaders and State heads of neighbourhood region and Indian Ocean region have been invited for Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as distinguished guests, a testament to India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in an official statement on Saturday said, “President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe; President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu; Vice-President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina; Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; and Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, have accepted the invitation to attend.”

The Congress leader said, “The event marks a good tradition of inviting the leaders of the neighbouring countries.” Tharoor also noted the significance of inviting the Maldives to the swearing-in, despite recent controversies. He expressed confidence in the meeting between the Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi after the ceremony.

    No Invitation To Pakistan

For the oath-taking ceremony, India has invited its neighbouring countries, except Pakistan.”India has invited its neighboring countries except Pakistan, which is sending a signal,” Tharoor commented. “That’s a good tradition that was started in Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. But this time there’s one less. He has not invited Pakistan. So again, that also sends a signal,” he said.

Adding further he said, “It’s good that at least the Maldives is at least making the effort to come here and speak. They have not been particularly friendly or receptive to our interests for some time now. This particular president is coming here for the first time. I am assuming that the visit will be taken advantage of for some meetings on the side as well.”

On being asked about how you see the country’s foreign policy under PM Modi’s era, Tharoor remarked, “It’s long and complicated with a mixed record of some positive and negative experiences, which need to be discussed in Parliament,” he told ANI.

Panaji, Goa: “In recent years, the experience of Muslims has not been good. This is happening for the first time in this country that no Muslim is an MP in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. No Muslim is a minister in the cabinet. This is a wrong thing that the BJP has done. Our (Congress) government was the reflection of the whole nation. • Kerala Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting Timings, Key Candidates And Phase 2 Polling Constituencies, Counting Date, rahul gandhi shashi tharoor |

Kerala Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 25.61% of polling was recorded  till 11 am in Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha seats for the 2024 general election after commencement of voting at 7am on Friday. People began arriving at the state’s over 25,000 polling booths early in the morning to avoid the expected hot weather later in the day. During the election, over 66,000 security personnel were deployed and a webcasting system was used to monitor the process.

Voting began with a mock poll that included votes for all candidates, including NOTA, listed on an EVM.
According to the EC’s instructions, at least 50 votes were cast in the mock poll, and actual polling began after the EVMs were cleared. Around 2.77 crore voters will decide the fate of the 194 candidates contesting the state’s 20 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Will the BJP’s drought in Kerala end? Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sharp attack on the Congress boost turnout after a relatively muted voter enthusiasm last week? These are some of the questions on people’s minds ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Key Candidates In Fray In Kerala Lok Sabha Elections:

Among the notable candidates contesting in this phase are Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Kerala’s Wayanad, where he faces the CPI’s Annie Raja and state BJP chief K. Surendran, and Congress’ Shashi Tharoor vs BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram.

Two union ministers, the majority of sitting MPs, a state minister, three actors, and a few MLAs were among the candidates who tried their political luck this time in Kerala, where the CPI(M)-led ruling LDF, the Congress-led UDF, and the BJP-led NDA all ran active and aggressive poll campaigns.

The BJP is relying on actor Suresh Gopi, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader A K Antony, to establish a presence in Kerala, which has never elected a BJP MP. Chandrasekhar faces three-time Congress MP Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), April 11 (ANI): Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor on April 11 denied receiving any defamation notice sent against him by BJP’s LS Candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Shashi Tharoor said that he hasn’t received the notice yet and when it shows up it will get a suitable reply. He said, “I have not received the notice. God knows which address he sent it to…At some point, it will show up and it will get a suitable reply. It should be pointed out that I at no stage made any specific allegation. I merely said that this is the talk of the town, not just of the town but the coastal belt as well and that people are talking about this practice happening…I’ve heard this from various people, including people of some prominence in the local community…I have an election to fight. If this is the way they or somebody on their behalf wants to do it, all I can say is I’m glad they’re pumping money into Thiruvananthapuram’s economy.

The Constitution makes that explicitly clear that your caste, religion, language, place of birth, whatever is irrelevant to your citizenship, you’re on the same equal plane as every other citizen. The communist party contributed minimally in the freedom struggle, and today they’re trying to reap its benefits and score political points in the most disgracefully dishonest way.”

  • Israel’s response to Hamas terror attack ‘disproportionate,’ says Tharoor; urges to end war

    By ANI

KOZHIKODE (Kerala): Pointing out that the world was witnessing its worst tragedy, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor alleged that Israel’s response to the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack was “disproportionate,” as a greater number of Palestinian people were killed in the past 19 days compared to those who lost their lives in the region since the year 2008.

Addressing an event organised to express solidarity with the Palestine people by the Indian United Muslim League (IUML) in Kerala’s Kozhikode on Thursday, Tharoor urged Israel to end air strikes in Gaza adding that India has always stood for peace since Mahatama Gandhi.

“Since 19 days, the world has seen the worst human-rights tragedies. We are seeing the worst tragedy. Terrorists attacked Israel, Hamas is a terror group. Israel stopped providing food, water and electricity to Gaza. We are condemning the bombing of Israel,” Tharoor said at the event held at Kozhikode beach.

Tharoor, who had previoulsy served as a UN diplomat said the ongoing air strikes in Gaza by Israel in response to the Hamas attack was “disproportionate.” Reiterating Bapu’s words, Tharoor said, “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind. India has always stood for peace since Gandhi.”

He also highlighted that the ongoing crisis is not a Muslim issue but a human rights issue and said “war knows no religion.”

“Israel calls their operation, ‘Swords of Iron’, but now those swords are dipped in the blood of children. The bombing has caused a lot of injuries and innocent people are suffering and they are dying. Many are living under suffocating occupation,” Tharoor said.

He said that over 6,000 Palestinians and 300 Israelis were killed in clashes in the area between 2008 and September this year and the number of those who died since October 7, however, was much more.

“While 1,400 Israelis died in the Hamas terrorist attack, many more were killed in Gaza when Israel responded to it…..Innocent civilians are dying,” Tharoor said.

Tharoor urged Israel to end the war and further appealed to the world to unite to “end the human rights violations inflicted on the Palestinian people”. “Now, it is more than time to announce a ceasefire,” the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram said.

While addressing the rally, IUML national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty said that the biggest weapon in the world is public opinion and that showing solidarity will bring results.

“Children are dying. We all are here to shed tears for the brutality in Gaza. We have no weapons to send there or save them. This rally will yield fruit because the biggest weapon in the world is public opinion. Global leaders are joining in solidarity. That’s how we also joined this. Solidarity has made results here. Killings should stop in Palestine,” he said.

IUML Party workers gathered in strength for Thursday’s rally, which was presided over by Kunhalikutty with Shashi Tharoor as Chief Guest. IUML state president Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal inaugurated the rally.

In his speech, Thangal said “Israel’s occupation has created Palestine conflict. They are trying to survive. They are trying the defend their land. Stop genocide killings. This conflict has started since 1947. Gandhi criticised Israeli occupation. Nehru, Manmohan Singh, even Vajpayee also took a stand against the Israeli occupation of Palestine… They all stood with justice. The current government is trying to dilute that stand and make Israel look holy.”

“They are trying to whitewash Israel. We should stand with marginalised. India’s policy is to support the vulnerable people. Israel is the biggest terrorist country. Whoever is supporting Israel they are supporting terror. Justice will rise over there that’s why we are having this rally. With our prayers let their wounds be healed,” the IUML leader said.

On attending the IUML’s solidarity rally, Tharoor said, “India is one of the handful of countries that maintains ambassadors in both Israel and Palestine and enjoys good relations with both. We should be a voice for peace amid the carnage.”
