  • Sharon Stone says she lost custody of her son because of nude scene in ‘Basic Instinct’

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Actress Sharon Stone revealed on the ‘Table for Two’ podcast that she lost custody of her son in part because of ‘Basic Instinct’ and all the controversy the 1992 drama ignited over her infamous nude scene.

After her divorce from Phil Bronstein was finalised in 2004, a judge ruled that he would have custody of their son, Roan. The two adopted Roan in 2000. Stone told podcast host Bruce Bozzi that ‘Basic Instinct’ played a role in the custody battle, reports ‘Variety’.

“I lost custody of my child,” Stone said.

“When the judge asked – my child my tiny little boy, ‘Do you know your mother makes sex movies?’ Like, this kind of abuse by the system – that I was considered what kind of parent I was, because I made that movie.”

“People are walking around with no clothes on at all on regular TV now and you saw maybe like a 16th of a second of possible nudity of me – and I lost custody of my child,” Stone added. “Are you kidding?”

Stone said the judge’s decision resulted in her checking into “the Mayo Clinic with extra heartbeats in the upper and lower chambers” of her heart. The actor added, “It broke my heart. It literally broke my heart.”

For Stone, the judge’s decision was only the latest example of people “weaponising” her movie roles against her.

The actor remembered attending the Golden Globes as a nominee for ‘Basic Instinct’ only to be laughed at by her peers when her name was called. “It was horrible. I was so humiliated,” Stone said.

“Does anyone have any idea how hard it was to play that part? How gut-wrenching? How frightening? To try and carry this complex movie that was breaking all boundaries and everyone was protesting against, and the pressure. I auditioned for it for nine months. They offered it to 13 other people and now you’re laughing at me. I just wanted to crawl into a hole.”

In her memoir, ‘The Beauty of Living Twice’, which was published last year, Stone revealed she was misled into appearing nude in ‘Basic Instinct’. The actor said she had no idea about the nudity until she saw a screening of the film alongside agents and lawyers.

“That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything – I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we’ll know you have panties on,’” Stone writes in the memoir. “Now, here is the issue. It didn’t matter anymore. It was me and my parts up there. I had decisions to make.”

Stone says she went to the projection booth and confronted ‘Basic Instinct’ director Paul Verhoeven by slapping him across the face.

  • Sharon Stone boards DC film ‘Blue Beetle’

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Sharon Stone is returning to the DC universe in a new role for the upcoming superhero film “Blue Beetle”.

Starring “Cobra Kai” actor Xolo Mariduena in the title role, the movie hails from filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto and writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stone will play the antagonist Victoria Kord, a character especially created for the upcoming film.

In the DC universe, the 64-year-old actor previously played a role in the poorly received 2004 Halle Berry film, “Catwoman”.

Also joining the cast of “Blue Beetle” is Raoul Max Trujillo of “Mayans M. C.” fame.

He will play Carapax the Indestructible Man in the film.

In the comics, the character is Conrad Carapax, an archeologist whose mind melds with the body of a robot.

Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guille, and Bruna Marquezine also round out the cast of the movie.

“Blue Beetle” will see Mariduena play teenager Jaime Reyes, who gains superpowers when he encounters alien armour.

It marks DC’s first film to star a Latino hero, with Warner Bros planning for an August 18, 2023 release.

Meanwhile, Stone is slated for a role in the upcoming second season of HBO Max series “The Flight Attendant”, set to premiere on April 21.

  • Sharon Stone says she paid Leonardo DiCaprio’s salary for ‘The Quick and the Dead’

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Sharon Stone paid for Leonardo DiCaprio’s salary from her own pocket to hire him for her 1995 movie “The Quick and the Dead”, the actor has revealed in her memoir “The Beauty of Living Twice”.

The book, in which the actor talks about her life and career in Hollywood, was released in the US on Tuesday.

In the memoir, the 63-year-old actor reflects on everything, from her painful childhood in Pennsylvania to films such as erotic thriller “Basic Instinct” and Martin Scorsese’s mobster epic “Casino”, which had earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe award.

“The Quick and the Dead”, which was directed by Sam Raimi, marked a major moment in Stone’s career as she was also co-producing the film besides headlining it.

It featured Stone as Ellen, a gunfighter who relocates to a rural town in the Old West and clashes with its leader (Gene Hackman) to avenge her father’s death.

During the course of the movie, she befriends DiCaprio’s character, simply called The Kid.

Talking about the movie, Stone wrote in the book that she and her fellow producers auditioned several young actors for the role of The Kid, reported IndieWire.

“This kid named Leonardo DiCaprio was the only one who nailed the audition.

In my opinion he was the only one who came in and cried, begging his father to love him as he died in the scene,” Stone recalled.

However, the studio TriStar Pictures wasn’t keen on hiring DiCaprio, who, despite earning an Oscar nod for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”, was still not much known in Hollywood.

“Why an unknown, Sharon, why are you always shooting yourself in the foot?” came the reply from the studio.

“The studio said if I wanted him so much, I could pay him out of my own salary. So I did,” Stone wrote.

Not just DiCaprio, Stone revealed that she had to fight the studio for hiring Raimi as well.

The actor said that Raimi’s low-budget horror movies — “The Evil Dead I” and “Army of Darkness” — led the studio to believe that he was a “D-movie director”.

Stone wrote that she told TriStar that Raimi “would work nearly for free as an enticement” after which the studio hired him.

Talking about her experience as a producer, the actor said, “Getting a producer credit as an actress is often thought of in my business as a ‘vanity deal’ meaning they pay you for the job but shut the f**k up and stay out of the way.

” “I won’t accept a vanity deal and let them know that upfront. This is illegal, I say, and I like to work within the law.

That gets a lot of silence and not a lot of joy on the other end,” she added.

Last year, actor Russell Crowe, who featured in “The Quick and the Dead” as Stone’s love interest, had said that he owed his career to the “Basic Instinct” star.

During his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Crowe had revealed that Stone fought hard with the studio to cast him in the movie.

“She was in a sword fight with the male producers on the film, and she put her foot down and said, ‘I’m going to hire the person I want to hire as the love interest kind of thing’.

“If it wasn’t her for her strength of commitment, I don’t know how long it might have been before I got an American movie. I’ve got a lot to thank her for,” Crowe had said.

  • Sharon Stone says surgeon gave her larger breasts without consent

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: American actor Sharon Stone revealed that her doctor gave her bigger breast implants without her permission during reconstructive surgery in 2001.

According to People Magazine, the 63-year-old actor reportedly wrote in her memoir, ‘The Beauty of Living Twice’ (via People magazine), “when I was unbandaged, I discovered that I had a full cup-size bigger breasts, ones that he said ‘go better with your hip size.’”

The ‘Basic Instinct’ actor explained that her doctor made this decision without telling her first.

“He had changed my body without my knowledge or consent,” she shared.

When Stone asked her surgeon why he had used bigger implants than the size they had discussed, she said he “thought that I would look better with bigger, ‘better’ b**bs.”

The ‘Catwoman’ star underwent breast reconstructive surgery following another procedure in 2001 where she had benign tumours – which she described as “gigantic, bigger than my breast alone” – removed.

And that wasn’t the only health scare she endured that year. Stone recently opened up about her “near-death” experience in 2001 when she had a stroke and cerebral haemorrhage.

While recounting on her experience, Stone told Willie Geist on ‘Sunday Today’, “The room was so silent while doing press for her book.

“When the room is so silent and no one’s running around trying to fix you, that’s when you realise how near death is and how serious everything is.”

Geist added that in her book, Stone wrote about “the light, the feeling of falling, seeing people who had passed.”

“I found out that I wasn’t the only one who’d had this kind of experience,” she told Geist.

“It’s so profound. And I know that scientists feel that it’s a scientific thing that happens. And spiritualists believe that it’s a spiritual thing. Personally, I’m with [Albert] Einstein, who believed that it’s both.”

Page Six reported that Stone’s memoir will be available for purchase on Tuesday.
