Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. This event is designed to catalyze and strengthen the semiconductor industry within the nation. The three-day conference, scheduled from September 2 to 4, focuses on developing a sustainable, robust, and resilient semiconductor sector. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi made a lighthearted remark. He highlighted the world’s confidence in India, its belief in India’s potential, and its readiness to collaborate with India in shaping the future of semiconductors. He also noted the significant investment of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore in ten semiconductor projects, a clear demonstration of the global trust in India’s capabilities. The implementation of the National Single Window System was mentioned, streamlining approvals from both central and state levels, thus easing paperwork for investors. PM Modi expressed India’s readiness to welcome investors and envisioned a future where products are ‘Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World’. He emphasized India’s shift towards becoming a full-stack semiconductor nation and expressed optimism about India’s ability to drive significant global change with its semiconductor technology.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the Made in India chip as a major achievement for the country, attributing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sai stated that under PM Modi’s visionary leadership and the commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India), India has created a new history in the field of technology. The launch of the nation’s first indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, Vikram, at the Semicon India 2025 conference, is a strong testament to India’s technological self-reliance and innovation capabilities. The Vikram processor, developed entirely using indigenous technology, is specifically designed for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s space launch vehicles. This will not only strengthen India’s space technology but also showcase its technical superiority on a global scale. Sai emphasized that this achievement is a result of the hard work of India’s young engineering talent and scientific community. He added that this indigenous microprocessor signifies India’s emergence as a manufacturer and global technological leader, rather than just a consumer. This success will further accelerate initiatives like Digital India, Make in India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The indigenous microprocessor will be useful not only in space research but also in defense, communication, and other high-tech fields. CM Vishnu Deo Sai extended heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on this historic achievement, stating that it is a new identity for a golden India and will serve as an inspiration for future generations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Semicon India-2025. The conference aims to boost India’s semiconductor sector. The Prime Minister will also participate in the conference on Wednesday and will engage in a CEO roundtable during the event. The three-day conference will focus on advancing a strong, empowered, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India. Sessions will cover topics such as the progress of the Semicon India program, semiconductor fab and advanced packaging projects, infrastructure preparation, smart manufacturing, research and development and innovation in artificial intelligence, investment opportunities, and state-level policy implementation. Furthermore, the program will highlight initiatives under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, the development of the startup ecosystem, international collaboration, and the future roadmap for India’s semiconductor sector. The event will host over 20,750 participants, including more than 2,500 delegates from over 48 countries, over 50 global figures, more than 150 speakers, and over 350 exhibitors. There will be roundtable discussions involving six countries, as well as country pavilions and special pavilions for workforce development and startups. Continuing the Prime Minister’s vision to showcase India as a hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development, conferences were held in Bengaluru in 2022, Gandhinagar in 2023, and Greater Noida in 2024. During his recent visit to Japan, Prime Minister Modi and Japan signed 21 significant agreements. Collaboration in the semiconductor and AI sectors is a key focus. During this visit, PM Modi visited the Tokyo Electron semiconductor plant, and both countries resolved to enhance strategic partnerships in advanced technology. Japan is considered a global leader in semiconductor equipment and materials. An aspect of the India-Japan agreement is the transfer of Japan’s older technologies to India to reduce dependence on China and increase economic security.
