In a brazen act of terror, a devastating blast struck an Imam Bargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai neighborhood on Friday, prompting a massive emergency response. Casualty figures are still emerging, but media outlets report several people hurt in the attack on this Shia place of worship.

The explosion occurred in Shahzad Town, a bustling area now transformed into a fortress of security personnel. Police, bomb disposal squads, and medical teams descended upon the site, working feverishly to extract survivors from the rubble. The entire vicinity has been locked down, with no entry allowed as investigators piece together the sequence of events.

Medical facilities swung into high gear without delay. PIMS Executive Director issued directives to mobilize emergency wings, including specialized units for burns and orthopedics. A hospital spokesperson detailed the activation of critical departments to cope with potential mass casualties. Meanwhile, Hum Media cited district officials confirming 10 casualties shifted to PIMS, alongside ongoing transfers to other centers.

This comes perilously close to the November 2025 suicide blast at a G-11 courthouse, where 12 perished and dozens more were wounded. Pakistan’s armed forces, fresh off ISPR’s announcement of neutralizing 216 militants in recent clashes, face renewed scrutiny over their counter-terrorism claims.

The assault not only disrupts daily life but also stokes fears of escalating sectarian tensions in a city already on edge. Community leaders called for unity, while security analysts warn of sophisticated networks exploiting vulnerabilities. Rescue efforts continue unabated, with prayers for the victims echoing across the capital. Authorities promise swift action, but the shadow of extremism looms large.

Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province is once again in the spotlight for alleged enforced disappearances, with seven new cases surfacing in recent days. Security forces’ aggressive operations following militant attacks have fueled accusations of extrajudicial abductions, reigniting a long-standing humanitarian emergency.

The first incident involved Mehran Baloch, a nursing student hailing from Bal-Nigor, who was detained by Pakistani troops outside Turbat’s hospital on January 15. His family reports no communication since, leaving them in limbo without charges or custody details.

In Kharan, post-attack crackdowns led to the seizure of Owais Ahmad Kambohani from Baloch Abad during a vehicle checkpoint. Three others – Muneeb Siapad, Makhfar Abid Siapad, and Ahmad Siapad – were reportedly vanished in the same sweeping actions, as per local accounts.

Quetta saw two more detentions in Killi Kambohani, where Abdul Qahar and Musawwir Kambohani were pulled from their residences. Relatives describe frantic searches yielding zero information from officials.

While five previously disappeared individuals have resurfaced at home, the Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) slammed the provincial cabinet’s Tuesday assertion that the missing persons issue is ‘resolved.’ ‘This is a blatant misrepresentation,’ HRCB declared, citing ongoing family ordeals.

Their annual data for 2025 reveals a staggering 1,455 enforced disappearances: predominantly men (1,443), with 12 women. Shockingly, over 1,052 are still unaccounted for, 317 freed, 83 perished in detention, and a mere three judicially processed.

HRCB underscored the illegality of warrantless arrests without court presentation, contravening national and global standards. ‘Enforced disappearance is an international crime, not political rhetoric,’ they asserted, decrying the dismissal of documented evidence as insulting to victims’ kin.

As Balochistan grapples with insurgency and state responses, these incidents highlight a cycle of distrust. Rights groups urge immediate investigations, releases, and systemic reforms to end the scourge of disappearances plaguing the province.

A powerful explosion ripped through a key bridge spanning the Kurram River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan on Wednesday morning, courtesy of unknown militants. Located in Shewa tehsil, the bridge’s collapse has isolated the district from neighboring areas including Miranshah and Bannu, amplifying fears over the province’s fragile security.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the massive detonation from several miles away, sparking panic among villagers. Pakistani police and army units rushed to the scene, securing the perimeter as forensics teams sifted through the debris.

Once a bustling artery for trade, education, and medical emergencies, the bridge’s loss now hampers everything from food deliveries to student commutes. Businesses grind to a halt, and alternative routes—longer and treacherous—pose new dangers for travelers.

This attack fits a disturbing pattern. Infrastructure sabotage has intensified lately, with bombers striking a Bannu link bridge in December and demolishing schools in Mir Ali recently. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan recently decried the worsening security outlook through 2025.

Amid rising tensions near the Afghan border, authorities face mounting pressure to restore connectivity and neutralize threats. For now, the blast underscores the persistent instability plaguing Pakistan’s northwest.
