  • Security forces conduct search operation in J-K village

    JAMMU:  Security forces on Monday carried out a search operation in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district following a tip-off about the movement of some suspicious persons, officials said.

    A resident of Purani village noticed the movement of at least three suspicious people in the early hours and shared the information with the police, they said.

    The police, assisted by the Army and the CRPF, immediately set up a cordon and conducted house-to-house searches but did not find any suspicious people, the officials said.

    Local residents claimed that this was the second time in a fortnight that the movement of suspicious people under the cover of darkness have been picked up by a villager.

    They also demanded a permanent security post in the village for protection.

    Security forces are on high alert in Poonch and nearby Rajouri districts following three separate terror attacks that left 10 soldiers and seven civilians dead since January.

  • Nine prisoners escape from jail in Nagaland, search ops underway

    KOHIMA: At least nine inmates of Mon district jail in Nagaland have escaped from prison, and a massive search operation is underway to trace them, police said on Sunday.

    The prisoners include under-trial inmates and murder convicts, a police officer said, adding, they managed to flee in the early hours of Saturday after somehow getting hold of their cell keys.

    A case has been registered at Mon police station and further investigation is underway.

    “Police have started an elaborate search operation, issued a look-out notice and alerted different agencies concerned,” he said.

    The village councils of prisoners have also been asked to contact the police in case there is any information regarding those who escaped from jail, the officer said.

  • Jammu and Kashmir: Search underway in Uri after Army foils infiltration bid along LoC

    BARAMULLA: A search operation is underway in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.

    “Search operation is still underway in Uri,” Army said in a statement.

    The search operation is being conducted to ensure that nobody has crossed over the border.

    Earlier, sources told ANI that an infiltration bid was foiled by the Indian Army in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, along the Line of Control (LoC). “However, to make sure that nobody has crossed over, search operations are being carried out in that area,” they said.

    On the intervening night of September 18 and September 19, Army said a suspicious movement was detected along LoC in the Uri area of Baramulla district. 

  • Massive search operation continues for second day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri

    JAMMU: A massive search operation continued for the second day on Saturday in a dense forest area in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir where two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter by security forces, officials said.

    The joint operation by the police and the army in remote Pangai village, located in a forested area of Thanamandi, was launched early Friday following information about the presence of three to four terrorists, including two foreign nationals, there.

    “The operation is going on but no fresh contact was established with the suspected terrorists believed to be holed up in the dense forest,” an Army official said.

    Two LeT terrorists were killed in a fierce gunfight in the forest area on Friday and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from them, they said.

    The bodies of both the terrorists were removed to a local hospital where their post-mortem was conducted on Saturday, the officials said, adding the identity of the deceased is still awaited but they are most likely from Pakistan.
