  • Scarlett Johansson has no plans to return to Marvel

    By Express News Service

Scarlett Johansson, who first appeared as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 (2010) before moving on to star in The Avengers films and Black Widow in 2021, has stated that she has no plans to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.

Speaking at The Goop Podcast to Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett said, “Yeah, it was awesome. It was like the best time ever. I mean, doing Avengers was so much fun. I was 26 years old, I was single, and it was fun! You know, I didn’t have any responsibility to anybody but to just enjoy yourself.” Further, she said, “And then every couple of years, we would go back, and do it again, and all be in different places in our lives. Like, somebody would have a kid or be getting married, or divorced, or remarried, or whatever. And it was like, I don’t know, an adult summer camp thing. And it was cool. It was really, really some of the best experiences.”

Lastly, she confirmed, “I’m done. Yes, I’m done. The chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also, coming back and playing a character again and again like that, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

  • ‘Doctor Strange 2’ star Elizabeth Olsen on how Scarlett Johansson taught her to be a superhero

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Actress Elizabeth Olsen’s character Wanda Maximoff in the ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is at her most complex, as her relationship with the title character essayed by English star Benedict Cumberbatch, grows more tangled over the course of the film.

However, Olsen, whose portrayal of the mystical Scarlet Witch has made her a consistent MCU fan favourite, says that no matter what Wanda goes through, she’ll continue to defend the character, reports ‘Variety’.

“I remember people saying at the end of ‘Wandavision’. ‘She has no accountability’,” Olsen told ‘Variety’ senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson on the red carpet at the ‘Multiverse of Madness’ premiere on Monday.

“She’s gonna take accountability for herself, she’s gonna isolate, she’s gonna think about it, and she’s gonna grow.”

Although ‘Multiverse of Madness’ is a sequel to the 2016 ‘Doctor Strange’ film, it also follows many of the plot threads of the critically acclaimed Disney+ series ‘Wandavision’, which saw Olsen and Paul Bettany headline as Wanda and the android Vision.

Olsen jumped into filming on ‘Doctor Strange 2’ right after she wrapped ‘Wandavision’.

“Getting to do ‘Wandavision’ and then coming into this film, my priority was, how do we continue the thread, but how do we also make it different?” Olsen recalled.

“How is there an evolution, how can we keep it exciting for the fans? And how can we ground her and show them something they haven’t seen yet? And I’m really looking forward for the fan response after this film. I think everyone’s in for a ride.”

‘Wandavision’ is one of the most well-received MCU projects, garnering multiple Emmy nominations, including nods for Olson, Bettany and Kathryn Hahn.

However, because the series premiered early 2021, amid the Covid pandemic lockdowns, Olsen didn’t get to experience the glitz and glamour of a premiere party or the in-person fan response to the show until the ‘Multiverse of Madness’ press tour.

“It’s really surreal. I keep hearing about the response, but it’s hard to actually connect with it until you’re actually at a premiere like this,” Olsen said.

“It’s wild. This is eight years now for me with Marvel, and I just feel so grateful to still be here and to have grown this character to what she’s become. But I’m also grateful to Kevin Feige for giving me the opportunity to do ‘Wandavision’ and having the idea.”

In addition to continuing Wanda’s story, ‘Multiverse of Madness’ introduces a new superhero, 16-year-old Xochitl Gomez as the reality-hopping America Chavez. Olsen shared how impressed she was by the young actor’s poise when joining the MCU.

“She has such a vitality to her, she has so much confidence being so young,” Olsen said.

“She has so much confidence being so young. I was 25 when I started, and she’s way better off than I was when I started.”

Olsen made her MCU debut in 2015’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

Much like Gomez looked to her to learn the superhero ropes while filming ‘Multiverse of Madness,” Olsen studied franchise veteran Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow across several films, reports ‘Variety’.

“I remember being on ‘Ultron’ and seeing how she was with the crew,” Olsen shared.

“I was just amazed by her ease and her comfort and how she includes the crew in everything, and how she makes everyone part of the team and feel excited to come to work. And I’ve really taken that into my life since then.”

Olsen said that it’s a little “shocking” to now be in the position of a pseudo-mentor, but “it’s amazing that we’ve gone through (iterations of the MCU) and it’s been this long, that now we have these different ages of women”.

  • Actor Ana de Armas joins Chris Evans in ‘Ghosted’ after Scarlett Johansson exits Apple movie

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Actor Ana de Armas has replaced Scarlett Johansson in Dexter Fletcher’s upcoming directorial venture “Ghosted”, following the Marvel star’s exit from the project due to scheduling conflict.

The Apple film will see de Armas reuniting with her “Knives Out” co-star Chris Evans.

According to Deadline, the project is described as a high concept romantic action adventure film.

Evans is also producing the project along with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.

De Armas will serve as executive producer.

Fletcher is directing from a script penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

De Armas, who has become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood following her turn in “Knives Out”, “No Time to Die” and “Blonde”, will also been seen opposite Evans and Ryan Gosling in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed Netflix movie “The Gray Man”.

She has also been in talks to play the lead in the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina”.

  • Scarlett Johansson working on a new MCU project

    By Express News Service

Kevin Feige, the chief of Marvel Studios, has revealed that Scarlett Johansson, who has played Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is attached to another project that’s being developed at the studio. Feige hinted at the development during the American Cinematheque gala, where several cast members from the previous Marvel films were in attendance. It remains unknown whether Johansson will be starring in the new project.

“We already are working with Scarlett on another not Black Widow-related top-secret Marvel Studios project,” Feige said. Scarlett recently starred as Natasha Romanoff in the Black Widow solo film, which was also the center of a legal battle between the actor and Disney after the studio opted for a simultaneous theatre and simultaneous release. The legal row was settled in late September, but the terms and conditions remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, Johansson will be next seen in Asteroid City.

  • Scarlett Johansson says her ‘Black Widow’ controversy with Disney had ‘positive impact’ on industry

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Golden Globe winning actor Scarlett Johansson recently opened about her recent ‘Black Widow’ controversy with Disney, and how her lawsuit helped in bringing a ‘positive’ impact in Hollywood.

People magazine obtained Johansson’s recent quotes from her recent media interaction at the 35th annual American Cinematheque tribute in her honor at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where she was accompanied by her husband Colin Jost.

Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter that the lawsuit, filed in late July, “was a very surreal time because, of course, the film had come out and was hugely successful and that was a big celebration.”

“I had a baby and that was obviously a life-changing, amazing, celebratory thing,” said Johansson, who welcomed son Cosmo four months ago. She is also a mother to daughter 7-year-old daughter Rose.

She added, “In a way, that sort of buoyed me through the very uncertain, stressful time. I feel mostly very fortunate that nobody will have to go through what I went through and that it’s made, I think, a positive impact in the industry and hopefully for artists and creatives’ lives and livelihood.”

“I have had some of the best times of my career working for both of those studios. I feel really excited that I get to continue my work with Disney and with my Marvel family,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Johansson also revealed that she was “already in the thick of it” on projects like ‘Tower of Terror’ at Disney and “some other projects that we’re working on. I get to continue to dream over there,” she told the outlet.

The Marvel star filed the lawsuit in late July, claiming Disney had breached her contract when it released this summer’s blockbuster ‘Black Widow’ on its Disney plus OTT streaming service at the same time that it was released in movie theatres.

In September, the 37-year-old actor and the conglomerate reached a settlement, although the terms were not disclosed.

  • Scarlett Johansson and Disney settle lawsuit over ‘Black Widow’ lawsuit

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson and studio Disney have settled her lawsuit over the release of the actor’s superhero movie “Black Widow”.

Though the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, Johansson said she is happy to have resolved her “differences with Disney”, reported Variety.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come,” the actor said in a statement on Thursday.

Disney Studios chair Alan Bergman said the studio is also pleased to reach a resolution with the actor.

“I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow’. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror’,” he said.

Johansson had sued Disney for breach of contract over the company’s decision to release “Black Widow” standalone film on Disney Plus and in theatres simultaneously.

In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in July, the actor contended that the streaming release of the Marvel Studios-backed movie breached her contract and deprived her of potential earnings.

“Black Widow”, featuring Johansson as the titular superhero, released in the theatres and on Disney’s streaming platform on July 9.

The actor’s lawyer said in the lawsuit that her contract guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release, with her potential earnings tied to the box office performance of the film.

At the time, The Walt Disney Co. had responded to Johansson’s lawsuit via a statement in which the studio said that the litigation showed a callous disregard to the COVID-19 pandemic and even revealed that she has so far received USD 20 million from the project.

“There is no merit whatsoever to this filing.

The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Disney has fully complied with Ms Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of ‘Black Widow’ on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the 20M she has received to date,” a Disney spokesperson had said.

In August, Disney revealed in a filing that “Black Widow” had grossed USD 125 million on streaming, in addition to its USD 367 million box office gross.

Directed by Cate Shortland, “Black Widow” also featured actors Rachel Weisz, David Harbour and Florence Pugh.

  • Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans reunite for Apple adventure feature ‘Ghosted’

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Former “Avengers” stars Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans are set to reassemble for “Ghosted”, an adventure movie project set up at Apple Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher will helm the film, penned by “Deadpool” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The movie is being touted as a high-concept romantic action-adventure in the vein of “Romancing the Stone”, the 1984 adventure film starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

Other details are being kept under wraps.

Evans will also produce the project along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger of Skydance, the company behind the Amazon Prime Video film “The Tomorrow War for Amazon”.

Reese and Werinick will be credited as producers as well.

This is the second deal for Johansson since filing a lawsuit against Disney Studios over alleged contract breaches with the Disney Plus release of her stand-alone “Black Widow”.

She also stars in the new Wes Anderson movie, which is now shooting in Spain.

Evans, who previously worked with Apple on the legal drama miniseries “Defending Jacob”, recently wrapped “The Gray Man”, an action thriller with Ryan Gosling that re-teamed him with his “Avengers” directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

Olsen has recently reprised her character, Wanda Maximoff, in Marvel’s first TV series, WandaVision, and is also set to appearing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Meanwhile, Black Widow will be skipping theatres in India to premiere directly on Disney+ Hotstar.

Johansson, the star of Marvel’s “Avengers” film franchise, first sparked pregnancy rumours in June after skipping out on several “Black Widow” events.

While performing at a stand-up comedy gig at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut over the weekend, Jost said, “We’re having a baby, it’s exciting,” according to a source in the audience as quoted by Page Six.

Johansson, 36, is already a mother to her six-year-old daughter Rose whom she shares with French journalist Romain Dauriac.

She and Jost, 39, quietly got married last October after three years of dating.

Their wedding was attended by immediate family and loved ones following the COVID-19 safety precautions.

Johansson is currently suing Disney Studios, parent company of Marvel, alleging that her contract was breached when “Black Widow” was released on their streaming platform Disney Plus.

She was recently cast in Wes Anderson’s latest film, which also stars Margot Robbie and Tom Hanks as well as the acclaimed auteur’s old favourites Adrien Brody, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman and Tilda Swinton.
