Fresh off a record-extending sixth Under-19 World Cup victory, Indian cricket faces a poignant reality check. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s match-winning 175 against England in the final cements his stardom at age 14 years and 319 days. Yet, BCCI’s 2016 mandate bars him from the next tournament despite being eligible by age.

The regulation is straightforward: one player, one U19 World Cup. Enacted to democratize opportunities, it aims to expose more juniors to global pressure cookers, preventing a handful of talents from monopolizing spots.

Only five Indians ever played two editions prior to the rule—legends in their own right who graduated to glory. Their stories highlight the stakes of such decisions.

Ravindra Jadeja’s 2006 and 2008 campaigns culminated in triumph under Kohli’s leadership. Today, he’s indispensable in India’s white-ball setup.

Sandeep Sharma’s 2010-2012 double act led to IPL stints and senior T20I exposure, proving the tournament’s launchpad potential.

In 2012 and 2014, Vijay Zol skippered the side in the latter but couldn’t replicate club form in IPL, scoring modestly.

Avesh Khan’s growth from two 2014 games to a 12-wicket haul in 2016 exemplifies targeted development.

Sarfaraz Khan lit up 2014-2016 with aggressive strokeplay, earning IPL contracts and a Test call-up through Ranji exploits. Ricky Bhui shared those teams but faded in impact.

As India celebrates, the rule sparks debate: Does it stifle prodigies like Suryavanshi or safeguard the ecosystem? BCCI bets on the latter, prioritizing volume over repeat heroes. The next generation awaits its turn.

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium witnessed a batting masterclass as Mumbai racked up 560 in their first innings of the Ranji Trophy Group B encounter, powered by Sarfaraz Khan’s sublime…

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium witnessed a batting masterclass as Mumbai racked up 560 in their first innings of the Ranji Trophy Group B encounter, powered by Sarfaraz Khan’s sublime 227. Batting at number five, the Mumbai stalwart faced 219 deliveries, dispatching 19 boundaries and 9 massive sixes to anchor the innings and propel his team to a commanding position.

Known for his aggressive strokeplay in limited-overs cricket, Sarfaraz adapted seamlessly to first-class demands. This knock was his fifth double ton in first-class cricket, and it came with the bonus of reaching 5,000 career runs. Key alliances defined his stay: first, a marathon 249-run partnership with Siddhesh Lad for the fourth wicket, where Lad grinded out 104 runs from 179 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes. Later, Sarfaraz added 114 with Suved Parkar, who scored a brisk 75 off 98 balls laced with 11 fours and a six.

The innings started steadily with openers Akhil Herwadkar (27) and Akash Anand (35) putting on 60 runs. Atharva Ankolekar’s explosive 35 off just 22 balls added momentum. For Hyderabad, spinner CTL Rakshan was the standout bowler, returning figures of 4/107 from 24 overs. Rohit Rayudu snared two wickets, and the rest of the attack – including skipper Mohammed Siraj – managed one apiece.

With this colossal score, Mumbai have seized the initiative early. Sarfaraz’s form signals his readiness for bigger stages, while Hyderabad must now bat through pressure to stay in contention.

In a dramatic turn in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Baroda clinched a thrilling victory over Mumbai, thanks to Hardik Pandya’s masterful innings. Mumbai had their moments, particularly with Sarfaraz Khan’s historic fifty, but faltered in the crucial stages, handing Baroda a well-deserved win.

Mumbai posted a challenging score after winning the toss. Sarfaraz Khan stole the show, crafting a record-equaling half-century that showcased his destructive batting prowess. His quickfire knock set the tone, but untimely dismissals left Baroda with a target they fancied.

Enter Hardik Pandya. The Baroda captain marshalled his troops with calm authority. He built partnerships and then unleashed a barrage of shots, ensuring no last-minute collapse. By the end, Baroda had chased down the total comfortably, with Hardik unbeaten and lauded by teammates.

Post-match, analysts pointed to Mumbai’s bowling lapses in the slog overs as the turning point. Sarfaraz’s brilliance was overshadowed, reminding everyone that individual feats alone don’t win games. Baroda’s triumph boosts their semifinal hopes, while Mumbai must regroup quickly. The tournament continues to deliver edge-of-the-seat action.

The Indian cricket fraternity is buzzing following the surprising omission of Mumbai’s prolific batsman Sarfaraz Khan from the India A squad for the upcoming first-class series against South Africa A.…

The Indian cricket fraternity is buzzing following the surprising omission of Mumbai’s prolific batsman Sarfaraz Khan from the India A squad for the upcoming first-class series against South Africa A. Sarfaraz boasts an exceptional domestic record, maintaining an average well over 100 in first-class cricket for the past five years. This decision has ignited a fervent discussion among fans and cricketing experts regarding his standing within India’s A team setup.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has called for a measured approach, urging that selection matters should not devolve into political or religious debates. He emphasized on social media that selectors operate with a strategic plan, and while decisions may seem unfavorable to fans, unfounded narratives should be avoided. Pathan’s remarks followed speculation questioning the integrity of the selection process. He stressed the importance of respecting the committee’s choices and focusing on the game itself.

Sarfaraz Khan, who recently turned 28, has experienced a challenging tenure with the national team. His Test debut occurred last year against England, where he scored 371 runs in six matches, including a century. However, opportunities at the international level have been limited since then. Despite recent efforts and performances on tours, he has found it difficult to cement a permanent place in the Indian squad.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his hope that the national selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, have provided Sarfaraz with candid feedback concerning his non-selection. Gavaskar suggested that transparency is crucial and that Sarfaraz’s potential to perform at the highest level should be acknowledged. He drew parallels to past eras where intense competition meant talented players sometimes struggled for selection.

Former teammates like Ravichandran Ashwin have also weighed in, advising against over-analyzing such decisions. The consensus among experienced voices is a plea for perspective, focusing on performance and respecting the selectors’ long-term vision for the team.

Cricket enthusiasts are expressing disbelief and disappointment following the announcement of the India-A squad for the series against South Africa-A. Notably absent from the lineup is the prolific middle-order batsman…

Cricket enthusiasts are expressing disbelief and disappointment following the announcement of the India-A squad for the series against South Africa-A. Notably absent from the lineup is the prolific middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan, despite his consistent dominance in domestic cricket. This decision has ignited a significant debate among fans who believe Khan’s exclusion is unwarranted, especially given his impressive first-class record. While Rishabh Pant’s return after injury is a positive for the senior team, Sarfaraz’s omission remains a major talking point. Reports confirm that fitness is not the reason for Khan’s non-selection, as he has recovered from a quadriceps injury and is actively participating and scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy. Fans recall his impactful performances for India-A, including a match-saving innings against England-A, further fueling their confusion. The emergence of Rajat Patidar, who has been in phenomenal form with the bat, scoring heavily in the current domestic season, is seen as a potential reason for Khan’s exclusion. Selectors appear keen to give Patidar opportunities in the India-A setup. The squad also includes several players currently in the senior Test team, suggesting a focus on providing game time to those on the fringes. India’s strategy to groom all-rounders as successors to spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja might also be a contributing factor, with several spin-bowling all-rounders included. Despite the setback, Sarfaraz Khan, at 27, remains a formidable force in domestic cricket, and his journey towards national selection continues.

Mumbai Cricket Association has unveiled its squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season opener against Jammu and Kashmir, with seasoned pacer Shardul Thakur appointed as the captain. The 42-time champions will begin their campaign on October 15, aiming for another dominant run in the prestigious domestic tournament. Ajinkya Rahane and promising batsman Sarfaraz Khan have both been selected for the 16-member squad.

This leadership change comes as Ajinkya Rahane has stepped down from the captaincy ahead of the new season. Sarfaraz Khan makes a significant return after recovering from a quadriceps injury sustained during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in August. His brother, Musheer Khan, is also back in contention after missing the previous season due to a car accident, adding depth to Mumbai’s batting lineup.

Notably, Indian international Shreyas Iyer has opted out of the squad to manage a recurring back issue, prioritizing his long-term fitness. This break from red-ball cricket means he won’t be available for the initial matches. Meanwhile, former Mumbai stalwart Prithvi Shaw has switched teams and will now represent Maharashtra in the domestic circuit.

Mumbai’s opening fixture against Jammu and Kashmir carries added significance, as they suffered a defeat against the same opponents last season. Jammu and Kashmir, led by Paras Dogra, achieved a notable upset by successfully chasing down 205 runs in a group stage match.

Placed in Elite Group D, Mumbai will compete against Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Pondicherry, and Jammu and Kashmir. The team is eager to bounce back after reaching the semifinals last year, where they were defeated by eventual champions Vidarbha.

Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, though currently out of the international spotlight, recently displayed his admiration for the game and its legends. A reel shared on his Instagram, created by a fan, showcased Rohit Sharma’s impressive batting moments. Sarfaraz’s simple caption of four heart emojis served as a touching tribute to the Indian captain, demonstrating respect from a younger player towards a senior who played a crucial role in his career. Sarfaraz’s Test debut in early 2024 came under Rohit’s captaincy, where he scored a century and three fifties in six matches. He last played against New Zealand in November 2024. Despite not being in the current playing XI, Sarfaraz has maintained performance in India A games, and there is speculation he may get a chance in the upcoming two Test matches against the West Indies starting from October 2. However, an injury forced him to withdraw from the Duleep Trophy 2025. His dedication to the game is evident, making fans hopeful for his return.

New facets of Anaya Bangar’s life have emerged. After speculation about her entry into Bigg Boss-19, Anaya Bangar, embracing her role as an aunt, has shown her affection. Images have surfaced, including one where she is seen playing with the son of a cricketer who is also a close friend. Given the friendship with the father, it’s natural for Anaya to be considered the aunt of his son.

Aryan Bangar and Sarfaraz Khan played a lot of cricket together. However, Aryan underwent a hormone transplant in the UK a few months ago and became a girl, after which people started to know her as Anaya Bangar.

The Buchi Babu tournament 2025 has commenced. Organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, the tournament is taking place from August 18th to September 9th. Sixteen teams are participating, divided into four groups of four. In a match between TNCA XI and Mumbai at the Guru Nanak College B Ground, India’s star batsman, Sarfaraz Khan, grabbed attention with a stunning century on the first day.

Sarfaraz Khan achieved this century while batting at number 5. Mumbai had lost three wickets for 98 runs when he came to the crease. Khan then took charge, steering the team’s innings and scoring a blazing century. He reached the 100-run mark in just 92 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. This innings is particularly significant for Khan, as he was recently excluded from the Indian Test team for the England tour.

Sarfaraz Khan has also been in the news regarding his fitness lately. After not being selected for Team India, he worked extensively on his fitness. In just about one and a half months, he surprised everyone by losing approximately 17 kilograms. This match marks his first appearance after the weight loss, and he has managed to make a mark in this match as well. Khan now has his sights set on securing a spot in the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.

Sarfaraz Khan’s younger brother, Musheer Khan, is also part of the Mumbai team in this tournament. However, he couldn’t perform well in the initial innings. Musheer Khan scored only 30 runs off 75 balls in the first innings of this match. He got a good start but couldn’t convert it into a big score.

The Duleep Trophy will commence on August 28, 2025, marking the beginning of the 2025–26 domestic cricket season, culminating with the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy on April 3, 2026. The Ranji Trophy, a cornerstone of India’s domestic cricket, is slated to begin on October 15, 2025. It will unfold in two phases: the initial phase from October 15 to November 19, 2025, followed by the Elite phase from January 22 to February 1, 2026.

Shreyas Iyer, the dynamic young batter, has been confirmed to participate in the Duleep Trophy, representing the West Zone. The zonal teams are expected to be finalized on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.

Other prominent players, including Sarfaraz Khan, middle-order Mumbai batsman, all-rounder Shivam Dube, and speed bowler Tushar Deshpande, have also expressed their availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Iyer’s contributions were instrumental in India’s victory at the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament, held in Dubai. He also played a key role in supporting Punjab Kings’ journey to the IPL 2025 final, where they were defeated by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad.

The selectors did not include Iyer in the ongoing Test series in England, opting for Karun Nair due to his performance in recent domestic matches.

Tilak Varma has been appointed captain of the South Zone team, with experienced players like KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar being omitted from the squad.
