  • Over 20 labourers feared buried as cold storage collapses in UP’s Sambhal district

    SAMBHAL: A cold storage collapsed in Sambhal district on Thursday. More than 20 labourers are feared buried under the debris.

    According to reports, the incident took place in the cold storage of Mawai village in Chandausi.

    Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officers to reach the spot immediately along with teams of NDRF and SDRF. Officials have been asked to ensure proper treatment to the injured persons.

    The local people, meanwhile, have already reached the village and are helping in the rescue operation.

    Reports claim that after the collapse of the building, an ammonia gas leak has also been reported.

    The fire department team has reached inside and plugged the leak.

    Seven to eight JCB machines are working to clear the debris and rescue those buried under it.

  • BJP MLA Harendra Singh Rinku booked for model code violation in Sambhal

    SAMBHAL: A case has been registered against the BJP candidate from Asmoli assembly seat here for violation of model code of conduct and COVID-19 guidelines, a senior police official said on Friday.

    On Thursday evening, the BJP candidate and Asmoli assembly constituency MLA Harendra Singh Rinku was holding an election meeting in Chaupa village in which a large number of people had gathered without masks violating social distancing, Police Superintendent Chakresh Mishra said.

    Taking note of the incident, a case has been registered against the BJP MLA Rinku and 50 to 60 unknown persons under relevant sections at the Bahjoi police station area, the SP added.

  • Seven dead, eight injured in bus accident in UP’s Sambhal

    SAMBHAL: At least seven people were killed and eight others injured in a collision between two buses on the Agra-Chandausi Highway under Bahjoi Police Station area, an official said on Monday.

    The accident occurred near Laharavan village late Sunday night when a bus carrying a marriage party was parked on the roadside due to a punctured tyre and it was hit by another, Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra said.

    Those killed have been identified as Virpal (60), Happy (35), Chhote (40), Rakesh (30), Abhay (18), Vineet (30) and Bhure (25), police said, adding they were returning from a wedding, the SP said.

    The injured were admitted to a hospital while the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, the SP said.

  • Uttar Pradesh: Woman raped in Sambhal district, video goes viral

    SAMBHAL (UTTAR PRADESH): A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a village in this district when she had gone to a forest to collect fodder, police said on Tuesday.

    The alleged incident took place on June 26 and the accused also recorded the act and circulated the video on social media, they said. A complaint regarding the incident was lodged by the woman’s father. It was alleged that on June 26, two women of his village took his 19-year-old daughter with them to collect fodder in the forest, where the accused youth raped her, Sambhal Circle Officer (CO) Arun Kumar Singh said.

    On Monday, a case was registered against the youth and the women and efforts are being made to nab them, the CO said, adding the victim has been sent for medical examination. “Police have taken cognisance of the video circulated by the accused on WhatsApp and relevant sections of the IT Act have also been added,” Singh said.

  • Four dead as car collides head-on with tanker in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal

    SAMBHAL: Four people, including a minor, were killed and three others were injured when their car collided head-on with a tanker here on Saturday, police said.

    The accident took place on Agra-Moradabad road when they were returning home after attending a wedding, Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Jaiswal said.

    The three injured persons have been admitted to a hospital in Moradabad.

    The deceased have been identified as Uvaid (28), his wife Amina (26), their son Aahil (5) and Chhoti (48), all residents of Moradabad.
