  • Yogi Adityanath questions association between Samajwadi Party, criminal over Hathras case

    By ANI
LUCKNOW: Referring to the murder case of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday questioned the association between Samajwadi Party (SP) and criminals in the state.

“Yesterday’s unfortunate incident in Hathras has brought the Samajwadi Party to light again. Doesn’t SP have an association with the accused? Why is there an association between SP and every criminal? There is SP rally in Hathras today and posters for rally put by the accused,” Adityanath said in the Assembly during the debate on the state budget for 2021-22.

Amrish Sharma, a resident of Hathras was shot dead by the main accused, Gaurav Sharma and his friends. The deceased had filed a case against Gaurav Sharma in July 2018 for allegedly molesting his daughter at a village in the Sasni police station area, Uttar Pradesh police said.

UP Police has announced a cash reward for information on the accused in Hathras murder case.

“Out of four accused one (Lalit) has been arrested and we have announced award money over the remaining accused (Rohtas, Nikhil and Gaurav) for their arrest,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Hathras, Vineet Jaiswal told media on Wednesday.

A cash reward of one lakh rupees has been announced to nab the main accused Gaurav and Rs 25,000 each has been announced for information that could lead to the arrest of Rohtas and Nikhil.

Terming the previous state budgets presented by Samajwadi Party (SP) as “directionless”, Adityanath said, “The Samajwadi Party’s budgets were never welfare-oriented. The party had no agenda for development and no far-sighted vision.”

“From 1947 to 2017, less than 2 per cent of the people in rural areas of the state were linked to household tap scheme. We have got it up to 10 per cent. In the next 9 months, we are coming up with an action plan for 30 thousand villages in Bundelkhand and Vindhya region and implementing the plan for drinking water through the pipeline,” he said.

He also said the provisions for farmers, youngsters and women in the budget document were lauded by various chambers of commerce like the CII, the FICCI, the ASSOCHAM and the PHDCCI.

The Uttar Pradesh government presented the last budget of its current tenure last week with an outlay of Rs 5,50,270.78 crore. It is the largest budget so far in the history of the state.

  • Samajwadi Party members walk out of UP Assembly over issue of cane price

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party members on Wednesday walked out of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly over the issue of cane price, accusing the government of being anti-farmer.

During the Question Hour, SP member Narendra Verma asked the government whether cane production cost has increased due to rise in prices of diesel, fertiliser, pesticides, agricultural equipment, and sought to know if the government is considering an increase in cane price.

In his reply, Cane minister Suresh Kumar Rana said the state advisory price (SAP) of cane is declared after taking into note production and sugar production cost and other factors, and that the state had already done so for 2020-2021.

While the prices for early variety is Rs 325 per quintal, for rejected varieties it is Rs 310 per quintal, and Rs 315 per quintal for common variety, he said.

On increasing SAP, he said, the “question does not arise” as for 2021 it has been already fixed.

The minister also cited some data of payments made to cane farmers by the previous Samajwadi Party regime and said the present government is committed to the welfare of farmers.

The leader of Opposition, Ram Govind Chowdhury (SP), said the minister did not answer the important question.

“When you are not raising the price, how can you double the income of farmers. This government is anti-farmers,” he said and walked out along with other SP members.

  • Akhilesh counters Adityanath’s jibe on red caps, says colour reflects emotions

    By PTI
MIRZAPUR: After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a dig at opposition parties over the colourful caps their MLAs wear in the Assembly, it was Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s turn Friday to hit back.

“It seems the CM had eaten some red chillies in his childhood, that’s why he is scared of the Samajwadis’ red cap,” Yadav told reporters here.

“Red is the colour of emotions. Our grief and happiness are reflected on our faces by this colour. It shows our blood,” he said.

Indirectly, he mocked the RSS for the colour of the caps worn by its volunteers.

“We can also say that those who have black hearts wear black caps,” he said.

Referring to the chief minister’s remarks made in the state legislature earlier, Yadav further said, “Thok denge’ (will shoot you) and ‘patak ke marenge’ (will beat u) cannot be spoken in the House, which is a temple of democracy.”

Taking a dig at the Opposition in the Assembly on Wednesday, Adityanath had said the House should not be taken lightly as a “drama company” with some members sporting caps in red, some blue, some yellow or even green.

“It would have looked nice if you had used a turban or a ‘safa’,” he said smilingly, reaching out to Leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary sitting on the opposite side with his Samajwadi Party’s bright red cap on.

In an obvious reference to the SP members who wear red caps, Adityanath recalled that he had once been to village school when a child called a politician sporting a cap as “goonda” (hooligan).

“There, an “anna prashan” (a ceremony where a child takes cereals for the first time) function was also organised. At that function, some people belonging to a certain political party rushed in to lodge protest. They were donning caps.

A toddler, who was there with his mother for the ceremony, was surprised to see them and screamed, “Mummy, mummy . look goonda, goonda.” the CM said.

  • BJP managed to do what previous governments couldn’t in 70 years: Akhilesh on fuel price rise

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Taking a jibe at the BJP over the price rise, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said what did not take place in 70 years, the ruling party did that in one year.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh Yadav said, “In the tenure of the BJP government, prices of petrol and diesel have soared so much that people living in the border areas of Gorakhpur– the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath– are forced to go to Nepal to get fuel.”

“Why the BJP is igniting the fire of inflation, after taking votes from the people in the name of reducing it,” he asked, adding that what did not happen in 70 years, the BJP government did that in one year.

Those who are doing “taandav” of destruction in the name of development have thrown the public into the fire of inflation, unemployment and corruption, he said, adding that the public has made up its mind to give a permanent holiday to the BJP.

  • BJP raising funds for Ram temple by capitalising on Covid pandemic: Akhilesh

    Express News Service
LUCKNOW: Firing a fresh salvo at the ruling BJP, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused it of capitalising on pandemic to raise funds for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

“The BJP government itself has been saying that it creates opportunities out of the calamity. And thus, it is collecting chanda (contributions) in this time of calamity (Covid-19 pandemic),” he said at a press conference.

Notably, SP president had taunted the BJP in Parliament recently by calling the party ‘Chandajivi’ (living on donations). Akhilesh reiterated on Saturday that in ancient Indian culture, there was no such thing as Chanda. “We have the culture of Dakshina (offering). We are ready to give Dakshina, if the BJP accepts it,” he said.

Claiming that the days of BJP government in the state were numbered, the SP chief continued to attack CM Yogi Adityanath by accusing him of lying even on the floor of Assembly. “The way CM is lying in the assembly… Those who lie in the legislature, who would punish them? People will punish them,” Akhilesh said while referring to the payment of minimum support price (MSP) to farmers for their crops.

“CM lied in the assembly that MSP was given to farmers. Everyone knows that farmers did not get MSP for maize, or even rice. He (CM Yogi) charged the SP government with selling off the sugar mills, if he is really a Yogi then he should tell which sugar mill was sold out during the SP regime,” said Akhilesh.

He accused the Yogi government of doing no work during the last four year which they could show to the people before going into the 2022 polls. “This government continues to hijack SP government’s work to show it as its own,” he maintained. “This is because the CM is not from UP. He came from another state.

Had he belonged to UP he would have worked for the state,” said the SP chief.

“The way people are joining Samajwadi Party in droves; the BJP will be swept out and the people will ‘deploy’ SP in the 2022 UP Assembly polls to rescue the state,” claimed the SP chief.

Launching an attack on Centre on increasing fuel price, Akhilesh said: “To hide its failure on the economic front, the BJP government hikes petrol and diesel prices and puts the burden on farmers and the youth. And it is sad and shameful that now the government is saying the price hike was for nation-building.”

LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party on Saturday constituted an 11-member panel to investigate into the alleged custodial death of a youth in the Jaunpur’s Buxa area.

  • Akhilesh Yadav alleges BJP government registering ‘false cases’ against Samajwadi Party workers

    By PTI
FARRUKHABAD: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav Monday alleged the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is registering “false cases” against his party workers.

He also alleged the BJP is indulging “in politics of lies, is instilling fear and hatred, and the SP is imparting training to its workers to tackle this”.

“The Yogi Adityanath government is registering false cases against SP leaders and workers, while serious cases registered against the Deputy Chief Minister is being withdrawn. Not only this, serious cases registered against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are also being withdrawn,” he told a press conference here, without mentioning any case.

Yadav once again reiterated his party’s support to the ongoing farmers’ protest and demanded the Centre withdraw the three new “anti-farm” laws and bring a new legislation.

The SP chief also attacked the BJP government, saying it is responsible for decreasing income of people, a “sinking” economy and joblessness, and the dispensation still pats itself on the back.

“While people have put a mask over their mouth and nose, the BJP government has even kept its eyes and ears closed,” he said.
