Born in Amritsar, he came from a family with strong military connections, his brother Jemi attaining the rank of Air Vice Marshal. Manekshaw’s career saw him participate in five wars, including World War II and conflicts against Pakistan in 1948, 1965, and 1971, alongside the 1962 Indo-Sino War. He passed away on June 27, 2008, in Tamil Nadu, at the age of 94, due to complications from pneumonia. His last words were reportedly, “I’m okay!” He was laid to rest with full military honors in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, next to his wife’s grave. His famous quotes and sayings continue to inspire.
