The report highlights that the festive season began on September 22nd, after which the market experienced an upswing compared to the slower sales in August. Wholesale sales for some auto companies (OEMs) were limited due to delayed purchases by dealers and logistical challenges. Tractor sales remained exceptionally strong. Considering the full-month impact of the GST cuts and positive market sentiment, an even more impressive performance is anticipated in October.

**Strong Recovery by Auto Companies**

Bajaj Auto witnessed a 5% year-on-year (YoY) increase in domestic two-wheeler sales and a 48% month-on-month (MoM) surge. Exports grew by 12%, while commercial vehicle sales declined by 1%. However, exports increased by 67%. TVS Motor’s total two-wheeler sales rose by 11%, with a 12% increase in domestic sales and an 8% rise in electric vehicles (EVs). Hero MotoCorp’s domestic sales grew by 5%, and total sales increased by 8%. The company’s exports saw a remarkable 95% growth.

**Strong Performance in Passenger Vehicle Sales**

Maruti Suzuki experienced robust retail sales. The company delivered nearly 2 lakh vehicles and had 2.5 lakh bookings pending. However, wholesale sales decreased by 8% due to logistical issues. Domestic sales, in conjunction with Toyota, decreased by 6%, but exports increased by 52%, resulting in an overall sales increase of 3%. Hyundai’s domestic sales increased by 1%, while exports surged by 44%. Mahindra & Mahindra’s SUV sales increased by 10% and tractor sales by a substantial 50%, supported by festive demand. Tata Motors recorded a 45% growth in domestic passenger vehicle sales. Commercial vehicle sales remained stable, while small commercial vehicles and pickup sales increased by 30%.

The compact car segment witnessed the most significant growth, with popular models like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, and Swift experiencing increasing demand. Consequently, the company produced 93,301 units in this segment, a considerable rise from the 68,413 units produced in September of the previous year. This increase underscores the continued preference for hatchbacks and compact sedans among consumers.

Production of SUVs and MUVs also saw a substantial rise, reflecting growing customer interest in these segments. Vehicles such as the Brezza, Ertiga, and Fronx saw a 27% increase in production, reaching 79,496 units, up from 62,752 units in the prior year.

Entry-level and other models, including the Alto and S-Presso, saw a slight increase in production, with 12,318 units produced compared to 12,155 units the previous year. Production of the Eeco van also increased to 13,201 units, up from 11,702 units a year earlier. Maruti’s light commercial vehicle, the Super Carry, also performed well, with 3,599 units produced, surpassing the 3,034 units from September 2024.

Notably, the company did not produce its premium sedan, the Ciaz, during this period, in contrast to the 1,687 units produced in the same month the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki recently released its sales report, revealing total sales of 1,89,665 units in September 2025. However, domestic passenger vehicle sales saw an 8% decline, reaching 1,32,820 units. The company attributes this decrease to inventory management and preparations for the festive season.

In the domestic market, the company sold a total of 68,482 vehicles during August 2025, reflecting a decrease of approximately 2 percent compared to the previous year. However, Tata Motors demonstrated robust performance in international sales, particularly in its International Business (IB) segment, where it recorded a remarkable 77% surge, selling 2,382 units.

Despite the overall sales growth, the company faced a downturn in the domestic market. Bajaj’s domestic sales in August 2025 decreased by 8% to 2,32,398 units, whereas the figure was 2,53,827 units in August 2024. This decline was particularly evident in the two-wheeler segment, where domestic sales fell by 12% to 1,84,109 units.

Exports significantly bolstered the company’s sales. In August 2025, Bajaj Auto sold a total of 1,85,218 units through exports, a 29% increase compared to the 1,43,977 units sold the previous year. Two-wheeler exports, in particular, performed exceptionally well, reaching 1,57,778 units, a 25% increase.

The commercial vehicle segment proved to be a major support for the company in August 2025. Domestic sales in this segment increased by 7%, reaching 48,289 units. Exports performed even better, with a 58% increase, recording 27,440 units.

Overall, the CV segment’s sales rose by 21% to 75,729 units. August 2025 presented a mixed picture for Bajaj Auto, showing that while the domestic market is under pressure, the demand from global markets is becoming a new source of strength for the company’s growth.

In the first five months of fiscal year 2025 (April-August), Bajaj Auto sold a total of 18,94,853 units, which is more than a 2% increase compared to the 18,54,029 units sold in the same period last year. Although domestic sales decreased by 9% to 10,50,349 units, a 21% increase in exports balanced out this decline.
