  • In strong pitch, PM Modi says laws open new doors for farmers

PM Modi on Saturday made a strong pitch for agricultural reforms legislated by the government saying that they increase the marketing options for farmers without taking away the one of trading through mandis.
Addressing the annual general meeting of FICCI, the PM said while mandis are being strengthened and modernised, the new laws give farmers the option of selling their produce anywhere. His comments come in the backdrop of a deadlock between farmer groups agitating against the new agriculture laws and the Centre.

Referring to the economic uncertainties around the Covid-19 pandemic, the PM said the situation, however, appeared to have changed by December when economic indicators are now quite encouraging.
“We have answers (to those problems) as well as a roadmap (for recovery).… The things learnt by the nation at the time of cri sis have further strengthened the resolutions of future,” said Modi while addressing FICCI’s 93rd annual convention.

  • Nokia shares Android 11 roadmap w/ rollout starting this year

Google has already pushed the full Android 11 update to Pixel devices, with some OEMs already running their own beta phases. As one of the main Android One players, Nokia has now officially confirmed the Android 11 roadmap for their entire lineup.

HMD Global has maintained an impressive track record for keeping devices updated, which is something that many other larger OEMs can’t always claim.

That is one heck of a collection of devices set to get updated to the latest OS upgrade. The firm confirmed the proposed Android 11 rollout to existing Nokia devices over on Twitter, while simultaneously noting that they have released over 1,000 updates in the past 3 years alone.

As all Nokia devices run a relatively clean version of Android One or Android Go, we’d expect the update process to be far easier than competing OEMs. The last few Nokia devices to get updated to Android 10 are now receiving their updates though, which proves that even lean third-party skins still need time to rollout.

  • IAF ‘well-positioned’, China can’t get better of us: Air Chief Bhadauria on eastern Ladakh

The chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on Monday said that the IAF is very “well-positioned” to deal with any threat and very strong deployments have been made in all relevant areas considering the security scenario. “We are deployed strongly to deal with any contingency,” IAF Chief said on the question of threat from China in Ladakh.

Addressing a press conference ahead of Air Force Day on October 8, Bhadauria said that China has its own areas of strength but “we have catered for all scenarios and are fully capable of handling any threat.”

He also said that the IAF is prepared to deal with a two-front war along the northern and western borders if such a scenario arises. “Be rest assured that we have deployed strongly to deal with any contingency,” the IAF chief said when asked about the situation in eastern Ladakh and possible threat from China in the region.

India and China have been locked in a bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh for the past five months. Both sides have held a series of diplomatic and military talks to resolve the row. However, no breakthrough has been achieved to end the standoff. The armies of the two countries are scheduled to hold a fresh round of talks on October 12 with a specific agenda of firming up a roadmap for disengagement of troops from all friction points.
