Telangana is betting big on its youngest IPS talent to rescue Greater Hyderabad from traffic hell. The state police department’s latest deployment sends a squad of under-35 officers straight into the heart of the city’s gridlock battle. This isn’t routine reshuffling—it’s a high-stakes mission to restore order on roads buckling under explosive growth.

Daily snarls at junctions like Ameerpet, Kukatpally, and the airport corridor have turned commutes into marathons. With vehicles multiplying faster than infrastructure can keep up, frustration levels are at an all-time high. Enter the new traffic czars: sharp, digitally native officers armed with analytics tools and a no-nonsense attitude.

Their playbook? Aggressive anti-encroachment sweeps, smart signal synchronization using machine learning, and partnerships with ride-hailing apps for better flow. One standout appointee, fresh from national training programs, promises ‘zero tolerance for violations.’ The team will also push for pedestrian-friendly zones and cycle tracks, addressing long-ignored facets of urban planning.

Critics point to past failed promises, but supporters hail this as a generational shift. Backed by the state transport ministry, the officers have access to drones for aerial surveillance and mobile command units. Public input is encouraged via helplines and social media.

Hyderabad, home to IT giants and a youthful populace, can’t afford stalled progress. As these IPS prodigies roll out Phase 1 next week, the city holds its breath. Success here could set a blueprint for other metros grappling with similar woes.

As Diwali 2025 draws near, Chennai is experiencing a significant surge in road and terminal traffic as thousands of residents embark on journeys to celebrate the festival of lights with their families. This annual exodus, which began around October 16th, marks one of the city’s busiest travel periods. Major bus stands, railway stations, and highways are witnessing massive crowds.

To accommodate the overwhelming demand, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has deployed an impressive 20,378 special bus services originating from Chennai. These services, in addition to the regular fleet of 2,092 buses, are working tirelessly to transport passengers to various districts across the state, particularly the southern and western regions.

Official data reveals that in the last three days alone, over 615,000 passengers have utilized government bus services departing from Chennai. On a single Saturday, approximately 256,000 passengers traveled via a combination of regular and special bus services. Despite these extensive arrangements, bus terminals remain exceptionally crowded, with many passengers facing extended waiting times.

The railway stations, including Chennai Central, Egmore, and Tambaram, are equally congested. All trains heading south are reportedly operating at full capacity. The increase in private vehicles has also contributed significantly to traffic jams on major routes like GST Road, creating slow-moving queues of vehicles extending for miles.

Estimates suggest that around 1.8 million people have already departed Chennai for Deepavali celebrations in their hometowns. This figure breaks down into approximately 950,000 by train, 615,000 by government buses, 200,000 by omnibuses, and 150,000 by private cars, highlighting the immense scale of Diwali travel.

Bhagalpur’s NH-80 has become notorious for traffic congestion, with the stretch between Kahalgaon and Ghogha facing regular jams. BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Yadav was observed directing traffic on foot to alleviate the situation. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the MLA interacting with a citizen who inquired about the reason for his presence. Yadav clarified that he was not stuck in the jam but was actively working to clear it. He mentioned that he was traveling from Patna to Kahalgaon at 7 AM and encountered the traffic. In the video, the MLA also urged people to maintain single-file driving to prevent congestion, noting that drivers often use multiple lanes, contributing to the gridlock. This incident followed a previous instance where the MLA was stuck in a jam on NH-80 near Trimuhan, and he had to hitch a ride with a biker to reach Bhagalpur Court. At that time, he had criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor. The MLA has previously expressed frustration over the persistent traffic issues, stating that he had repeatedly voiced his concerns to no avail. He was traveling from Kahalgaon for an NDA workers’ conference in Bhagalpur, but the traffic forced him to abandon his vehicle and proceed on foot.

Traffic diversions are currently in effect at multiple roundabouts along the 130-meter road in Greater Noida West. U-turns have been established on both sides of the roundabouts to direct traffic…

Traffic diversions are currently in effect at multiple roundabouts along the 130-meter road in Greater Noida West. U-turns have been established on both sides of the roundabouts to direct traffic flow. Temporary barriers have been deployed to close off these roundabouts. The Greater Noida Authority has stated that permanent barriers will be installed after the Kavad Yatra to permanently resolve congestion issues.

A temporary barrier, constructed using Noida Police barriers and iron grills secured with ropes, has been placed at the Ek Murti roundabout in Greater Noida West. However, these barriers are often circumvented by passersby, allowing two-wheelers and e-rickshaws to pass through, thereby disrupting the diversion plan and contributing to traffic jams.

The Greater Noida Authority has implemented traffic diversions from both directions of the roundabouts. A portion of the Iteda roundabout has been closed using broken streetlight poles, large stones, and iron barriers. The installation of permanent barriers is expected to alleviate congestion. While temporary measures have provided some relief, the absence of permanent barriers limits the effectiveness of the diversions.

Manish Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida West, submitted a complaint through the Chief Minister’s portal, advocating for the installation of permanent barriers to address the ongoing traffic congestion. Narottam Singh, Senior Manager of the Greater Noida Authority, responded that temporary barriers were put in place to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the Kavad Yatra and that the installation of permanent barriers would be considered after the event.
