  • Met Gala 2024: Rihanna to Taylor Swift – Celebs Who Skipped Gala Event | People News

New York: As usual, the 2024 Met Gala was a fashionable star-studded event with appearances from the biggest names across music, entertainment, and, of course, fashion. This year’s event, held on May 7 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, welcomed everything from red carpet debuts to couple goals and family outings to the fashion’s biggest night. However, many renowned names were noticeably absent.

    Rihanna

Singer Rihanna, who is fondly called RiRi, has often unleashed her fashionable avatar at Met Gala. Surprisingly, this time she did not show up. As per The Hollywood Reporter, she stayed home due to an unexpected bout with the flu following an appearance in Miami over the weekend for the Formula 1 race.

Rihanna had even teased her strategy for this year’s event, telling ‘Extra’ that she had planned to keep it “real simple.”

    Blake Lively

Blake, who recently embraced motherhood, skipped appearing at the Met Gala 2024. In 2023, she teased that she wouldn’t be attending but would be watching. She then posted an Instagram story that read, “First Monday in May”.

In 2022, Blake wowed everyone with her colour-changing dress for the 2022 Gilded Glamour-themed Met Gala.

    Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has not been attending the Met Gala since she showed up in 2019 and delivered one look that was secretly four entirely different ensembles. Fans were expecting her presence this year but they got unlucky.

    taylor swift

Singer Taylor Swift gave Met Gala a miss this year. As per People, the 14-time Grammy winner is busy preparing for her iconic Eras Tour in Europe starting this week and spanning until summer. Swift made her last Met Gala appearance as a bleach-blonde co-chair in 2016.

    Jared Leto

The Oscar-winning actor has put on many head-turning performances at previous Met Galas. However, this year he did not show up.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during an interview with E! News correspondent at the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards, Leto revealed the reason why. “Back on the road,” Leto said referencing his current tour with his longtime band 30 Seconds to Mars. “It’s been five years.”

Stars like Beyonce, Harry Styles, Ben Affleck, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian let fans down by skipping the 2024 Met Gala.

  • Rihanna to perform ‘Black Panther’ song at Oscars

    By AFP

LOS ANGELES: Pop superstar Rihanna will perform at the Oscars next month, organizers said Thursday, just weeks after she made her long-awaited — and visibly pregnant — return at the Super Bowl.

The Barbados-born singer will perform her Academy Award-nominated song “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” at the film industry’s top awards show in Hollywood.

The song is competing with the likes of Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” and the current frontrunner “Naatu Naatu” from Indian crowd-pleaser “RRR.”

Rihanna, 35, had not performed a live show in seven years before bringing a career-spanning medley of hits to the NFL flagship halftime show earlier this month.

She has instead concentrated on the successful makeup, lingerie and high-fashion brands that have helped make her a billionaire — as well raising her first child, a son, who was born in May.

Her new baby bump dominated conversation at the Super Bowl, with representatives for the singer confirming soon after the show that Rihanna is pregnant with her second child.

But fans hoping for a glimpse of the album she’s been teasing for years were left disappointed.

“Lift Me Up” is the first Oscar nomination for Rihanna, a nine-time Grammy winner with eight multi-platinum albums.

The 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on March 12.

  • Rihanna is pregnant again, rep says after Super Bowl show

    By PTI

ARIZONA:  Rihanna was pregnant with her second child as she performed her Super Bowl halftime show Sunday.

The singer’s representative confirmed the pregnancy shortly after she ended her 13-minute set at Super Bowl 57.

She hovered high at times as she performed a number of hits including “We Found Love,” “Diamonds” and “Work” during a halftime break between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The baby bump that was visible in the tight clothes she wore under her baggy red jumpsuit set off a wave of social media speculation that she might be pregnant again.

Rihanna, 34, has a nine-month-old son with rapper A$AP Rocky.

During her media preview Thursday, Rihanna said she was initially unsure about taking on the challenge of performing during a time when she was three months postpartum and wondered “should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this.”

“But when you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world, you can do anything,” Rihanna said.

“The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages of the world. As scary as that was because I hadn’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all”.

Rihanna said had to figure out how to fit some of her biggest songs into her 13-minute set.

“The setlist was the biggest challenge,” she said.

“That was the hardest, hardest part. Deciding how to maximize 13 minutes but also celebrate, that’s what this show is going to be. It’s going to be a celebration of my catalogue in the best way that we could have put it together.”

A nine-time Grammy Award-winner, Rihanna has 14 No.1 Billboard Hot 100 hits, including “We Found Love”, “Work,” “Umbrella” and “Disturbia”.

  • Chris Martin declares Rihanna “the best singer of all time” ahead of her Super Bowl halftime performance

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Singer-songwriter Chris Martin of the British rock band Coldplay has declared Rihanna “the best singer of all time” ahead of her hotly anticipated Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show.

According to Page Six, a USA-based entertainment news outlet, “You have to be an idiot not to recognize that she’s the best singer of all time,” Martin said of Rihanna in an interview with Zane Lowe.

“I don’t know Rihanna very well… I’m mainly just a fan, and we have performed with her a few times and it is rarer and rarer for her to just sing, which is what makes it even more special, and in a strange way, it shows that she really, really wants to do it,” Martin confessed.

Back in 2011, Coldplay collaborated with Rihanna on their fifth studio album ‘Mylo Xyloto’. The track, titled ‘Princess of China’, proved to be an instant hit and was followed by a music video as well as some live performances, reported Page Six.

“No one can make Rihanna do anything at this point,” Martin added, noting that she’s “the best singer” in his opinion.

Coldplay performed at the annual big game in 2015. When asked about his expectations for Rihanna’s halftime show, Martin said Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, will wow him no matter what.

“So it’s hard for me, I’m very biased because I’m such a big Rihanna fan… I mean, I think she could just walk out in sweatpants and sing, and that would be just great,” he told Lowe, as per Page Six.

  • Lady Gaga, Rihanna earn best original song Oscar nominations

    By Associated Press

LOS ANGELES: Lady Gaga and Rihanna earned Oscar nominations Tuesday in a best original song category that found Taylor Swift left out.

Gaga was nominated for “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” while Rihanna became a first-time nominee through “Lift Me Up,” a song from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The music superstars will compete at the 2023 Academy Awards in March.

Swift’s “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing” failed to get a nomination in the category. The song was considered an Oscar hopeful after receiving nominations for other awards including the Golden Globes.

Gaga co-wrote the “Top Gun” song with BloodPop, the uber-talented producer-songwriter who has created songs for several big names including Madonna, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber. It’s the fourth nomination for Gaga, who won an Oscar in 2019 for “Shallow” with Bradley Cooper.

Rihanna made her long-waited return to music with a major splash on the ballad “Lift Me Up,” which was written as a tribute to the late “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, who died from cancer in 2020. She created the song with Tems, the film’s director Ryan Coogler and composer Ludwig Göransson, who took home an Oscar four years ago for his work on the first “Black Panther” film.

“This song touched a lot of people,” Göransson said. “That’s one of the beautiful things you can do when you write music. There are times when music has a life outside of the film. It lives on. It’s beautiful to see how it connects with people.”

Diane Warren received her 14th Oscar nomination through her song “Applause” from “Tell It Like a Woman.” The prolific songwriter was recognized with an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards last year.

“It’s amazing to be appreciated by my peers again,” said Warren, who stayed up all night at a pizza party with friends while waiting for nominations, just as she did last year. “I never take the nominations for granted.”

Other best original song nominees are M.M. Keeravaani’s “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR,” which was written by Chandrabose, and “This is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The latter track was created by Mitski, David Byrne and Ryan Lott, who along with his band Son Lux was also nominated for best original score.

“I feel like I’m on top of the world. This is the best feeling,” said Keeravaani, who added that he wasn’t surprised with the nomination because he was “very confident in his work.”

Keeravaani said he hopes his nomination through the Oscars’ platform can highlight other artists from India.

“It’s important so that more and more music and talented artists from my country can have a chance to get this kind of recognition, so that the world embraces India music more than ever,” he said.

  • Johnny Depp to appear in Rihanna’s new Savage X Fenty show

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Actor Johnny Depp will feature in Rihanna’s upcoming ‘Savage X Fenty Vol. 4’ fashion show.

As per Variety, Depp will be the first male celebrity to have a featured “star” moment in one of Rihanna’s shows.

His brief cameo follows in the vein of other celeb moments, like Cindy Crawford’s appearance in the 2021 Savage X Fenty showcase. Other confirmed celebrities for the “Vol. 4” show include Rihanna herself, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actor Winston Duke, “Abbott Elementary” Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, Marvel’s “Shang-Chi” star Simu Liu, “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson, Irina Shayk, Marsai Martin and performances by Burna Boy and Anitta.

“Savage X Fenty Vol. 4” will be out on Prime Video on November 9.

Meanwhile, Depp is also in news over his alleged relationship with his lawyer Joelle Rich.

Joelle Rich represented Johnny in his libel trial against The Sun in 2018. The update about their separation has been confirmed by People magazine.

Back in September, a source confirmed to the outlet that the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star and the London lawyer were “dating, but it’s not serious.”

However, as per the new reports, the two are no longer dating.

Rich was on Depp’s legal team during his libel case against The Sun, which he lost in November 2020. He sued the U.K. newspaper for calling him a “wife-beater,” but the court upheld the outlet’s claims as being “substantially true” and his ex-wife Amber Heard testified to back up the claims. In March 2021, his attempt to overturn the decision was overruled.

Rich was not among his lawyers in this year’s defamation case against Heard, 36, which was held in Fairfax County, Virginia. This isn’t Rich’s first encounter with internationally renowned figures while working in her field.

According to Page Six, the lawyer, a partner at the firm Schillings, successfully defended Meghan Markle in the Duchess’ 2019 case against the Daily Mail over the publishing of a private letter to her estranged father, winning on behalf of her client in 2021.

  • Rihanna returns to music with new song in upcoming film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

    By ANI

LOS ANGELES: Good news for Rihanna fans! After a long hiatus from music, Rihanna finally announced her song.

Rihanna is returning to music with ‘Lift Me Up,’ the opening single from Marvel’s blockbuster sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’

The song is a homage to Chadwick Boseman’s life and legacy. The song will be out on October 28, much before the film releases on November 11.

Rihanna teased the song’s melodious hum on social media, but little else is known about the song’s style and sound.

According to Variety, Tems, who has written the song, said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.”

“Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honour,” he added.

As per Variety, Rihanna’s Westbury Road label will release ‘Lift Me Up’ in collaboration with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records.

The rest of the soundtrack for the film, which will be released on November 4, is still unknown.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s follow-up to his 2018 film that became a cultural touchstone and earned a best picture nomination at the Oscars.

He wrote a sequel for ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman, but the actor died in 2020 after privately battling colon cancer. So, the filmmaker got to work on how to move forward while honouring Boseman’s legacy.

The star cast of ‘Wakanda Forever’ includes Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke, as well as Marvel newcomer Tenoch Huerta as Namor.

The film will introduce Riri Williams, the teenage genius who becomes the hero ‘Ironheart’. ‘Wakanda Forever’ is due to hit theatres on November 11 in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

  • Rihanna’s boyfriend A$AP Rocky charged with assault over 2021 shooting

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Rihanna’s boyfriend A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault and weapons charges in connection with a November altercation with a former friend in Los Angeles.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon announced the decision against the rapper, The Hollywood Reporter reported. The Manhattan native, born Rakim Mayers, was slapped with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm, according to prosecutors.

“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascon said in a news release.

“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”

Rocky was detained in connection with an investigation by the LAPD into a non-fatal shooting in Hollywood on Nov. 6 and released on a USD 550,000 bond. An argument escalated between the rapper and his acquaintance, leading to Rocky allegedly firing a semi-automatic handgun.

At the time of the arrest, Rocky was in the process of returning to Los Angeles on a private plane after a vacation in Barbados with Rihanna, according to reports by NBC News and TMZ.

In 2019, Rocky was arrested and charged with assault in Sweden, with prosecutors alleging that the victim was punched, kicked and attacked with a bottle. He spent nearly five weeks behind bars before being released, though he was later found guilty.
