In a no-nonsense address to the media in Patna, Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha ramped up his war on land encroachment and bureaucratic graft. On Friday, he laid down the law for land mafias and complicit officials: reform immediately or prepare for relentless prosecution.

Sinha, who doubles as Revenue and Land Reforms Minister, shared his fearless backstory. ‘I fought elections facing down criminals head-on and won,’ he said, crediting that grit for his current crusade against land sharks, brokers, and dishonest staff in the revenue machinery.

Inspired by Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s principles, Sinha vowed zero tolerance. He singled out departmental insiders who hinder anti-mafia drives, calling them enablers who will soon taste justice. No exceptions.

‘Public-serving honest bureaucrats are safe,’ he clarified. But collaborators will be dealt with harshly. Suspensions await errant circle officers and peers during ongoing public grievance forums on land issues.

Every step will rest on solid proof, Sinha promised, underlining the drive’s goal: a clean, responsive land system for Bihar’s people. With government backing and precise instructions to the bureaucracy, he asserted that evildoers have nowhere to hide. This aggressive stance marks a pivotal shift in tackling one of Bihar’s most entrenched problems.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sounded the alarm on rampant corruption in the land patta distribution system, ordering a zero-tolerance policy against those taking bribes for leases. The announcement, made during a review meeting with top bureaucrats, underscores the administration’s resolve to dismantle networks preying on vulnerable sections of society.

Reports of touts charging exorbitant fees – sometimes running into lakhs – for processing simple patta applications have flooded government helplines and district offices. These scams not only delay legitimate claims but also push marginal farmers deeper into debt, as they borrow money to pay the illicit demands.

‘This is a direct assault on our government’s pro-poor policies,’ CM Yogi remarked, vowing comprehensive probes and exemplary punishment. He directed the formation of vigilance squads in every tehsil to scrutinize pending applications and weed out fraudulent ones. Revenue police will be empowered to conduct raids and seize assets linked to the racket.

The state plans to introduce an online portal for patta applications, complete with real-time tracking and AI-based anomaly detection, to prevent future malpractices. Training programs for block-level officers will focus on ethical practices and grievance redressal.

Yogi’s intervention aligns with his ongoing war against mafias, from sand to land. Early impacts are already visible in districts like Gorakhpur and Varanasi, where drives have recovered encroached land worth crores. With elections on the horizon, this initiative could bolster the BJP’s image as a champion of clean governance in UP.

The Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Department has refuted reports claiming that the strike by dismissed special survey contract employees has ended following a meeting with the Chief Secretary. These reports also suggested the Chief Secretary had assured action on some of their demands. The department clarified that these reports are false, misleading, and untrue. According to the department, the alleged meeting was not part of any official discussions. The Chief Secretary was, in fact, meeting with some Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and an individual from a union accompanied one of the MLAs. This individual attempted to raise the issue of the contract workers’ strike personally, but the Chief Secretary clearly stated that the department’s decision would stand and no personal assurances were given. The department urges all parties to rely only on information from authorized and authentic sources and to avoid being misled by such deceptive propaganda.

The State GST Department in Chhattisgarh conducted a major operation, simultaneously raiding 25 locations across Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Raigarh, and Jagdalpur. The raids targeted offices and warehouses of businesses involved in the trade of gutkha, clothing, transportation, footwear, and dry fruits.

Chaos erupted at several locations as the raids commenced. Investigations revealed that these firms had reported turnovers worth crores but had either paid negligible taxes or none at all. Examinations of documents exposed cases of bogus billing and fraudulent input tax credit claims by several firms.

State GST Special Commissioner TL Dhruv has made it clear that those involved in tax evasion will not be spared. The department is now adopting a strict approach, preparing for legal action along with hefty penalties. After confirming tax evasion of approximately ₹10 crore, notices have been issued to all firm operators.

During the raids, it was also discovered that some business owners did not possess accounting software or any records of their transactions. Their entire businesses were being run on the basis of raw bills and fake documents.

In Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, significant action has been initiated against Navdurga Fuel Power Limited. Investigations by the Revenue Department have revealed that the company illegally occupied 23 acres of land belonging to the Gram Panchayat of Saraiapali for 20 years. The company’s claim over the land was found to be fraudulent. Following the confirmation, the department has issued an ultimatum, ordering the company to vacate the land within 15 days. The matter came to light after the Revenue Department received complaints about the illegal occupation of the land. Subsequent investigations uncovered that Navdurga Fuel Power Limited had taken possession of the government’s Kotwari land for its plant operations, allegedly using fabricated documents to claim ownership. Further inquiries revealed a conspiracy involving forged documents and collusion that facilitated the unlawful occupation of the land. The plant operated on this land for two decades until the Revenue Department exposed the scheme. The Revenue Department has issued a 15-day notice to the company, instructing it to vacate the land. If the land is not vacated within the stipulated time, the administration will take action to reclaim the land and initiate legal proceedings against the company. The local villagers of Saraiapali and neighboring areas have expressed their joy over the action. They thanked the administration, noting that the land had been encroached upon for many years and is now being freed.
