In an order to reduce response time and ensure police presence on city roads, the Gurugram Police will soon get 25 police control room (PCR) vans donated by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).
These vans (Maruti Suzuki Ertiga) equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) to track the location of police personnel, sirens, flashlights, masks, reflectors, night vision, night jackets, torches, first-aid boxes and other essential police accessories.
The figure for such vehicles will be increased by 100. Soon the district all police stations will get two PCR vans each, an official said.
Expressing his views about dial 100 Commissioner of police K K Rao said, “When a person in distress dials 100, the exact location of the caller is identified immediately, and police station within the jurisdiction of the location of the call is intimated and action will be taken within 5 to 10 minutes”.
He explained that a GPS system identifies the nearest location of the Police Emergency Response vehicle and the police are able to reach the caller within the prescribed time.
“We just want to improve police presence on city roads and decrease police response time. It is an improved version of earlier systems which gives minute details about route followed, distance and area covered (in km), duration of stay at any location during the day, details about police official riding the bike, PCR vans with his contact number, it will help to reach the crime scene at a specific time, current and past locations, points checked by them etc,” Rao said.
These PCR vans have been connected to the police control room. So that the nearest PCR riders can reach on time and help victims. Each van has their own particular number along with rider contact number and same will be monitored at
police commissioner’s office. To track the location of cops a special screen will be installed at the Police Commissioner’s office.
