Discover the extraordinary story of Kongō Gumi, the world’s oldest operating company. Established in 578 CE in Japan, this construction firm has a remarkable legacy spanning over 1,400 years, specializing in the intricate art of building and restoring Buddhist temples. Founded by Shigemitsu Kongō, a Korean immigrant, the company’s journey began with the construction of Japan’s inaugural Buddhist temple, Shitenno-ji in Osaka. For generations, the Kongō family meticulously passed down their unparalleled expertise in architectural craftsmanship.

Though no longer under direct family leadership, the spirit of Kongō Gumi persists. In 2006, the company, facing financial difficulties, was acquired by the Takamatsu Construction Group. Today, it operates as a specialized division, maintaining its commitment to traditional temple construction techniques. The family’s connection, though indirect, remains strong, with the 41st generation, represented by Masakazu Kongō’s daughter, continuing to uphold the family’s renowned name within the business.

Prior to its acquisition, Kongō Gumi was a respected entity with approximately 100 employees and significant annual revenue. Despite its enduring history, the company encountered substantial debt. The last direct family leader, Masakazu Kongō, was the 40th in line. Kongō Gumi stands as a testament to enduring craftsmanship, profound resilience, and the remarkable ability of a business to navigate over fourteen centuries of change.

Despite rainy weather, dozens of Gazan volunteers have embarked on a mission to clear streets and restore essential infrastructure in Gaza City. This initiative, fueled by a broader volunteer campaign, tackles the immense rubble and debris left behind by a devastating two-year conflict. The Gaza Municipality, in collaboration with the Gaza Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture and the Palestinian NGO Network, launched the effort with the stated aim of fostering community involvement in rebuilding efforts. Officials highlighted the campaign’s goal to remove waste, clear rubble, plant trees, and rejuvenate the war-affected urban landscape. This collective action aims to send a powerful message of defiance and hope, demonstrating the Palestinian people’s unwavering commitment to their land and their capacity to overcome adversity. Participants, ranging from young people to the elderly, expressed pride and determination, emphasizing that Gaza’s resurgence will be achieved through the dedication of its own residents, even if the rebuilding process spans generations. The campaign commences amidst a severe humanitarian crisis, with significant waste accumulation posing environmental and health risks, particularly near displacement camps. Municipalities are struggling to manage the estimated 700,000 tons of waste due to critical shortages of fuel and equipment.

KL Rahul delivered a memorable performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, achieving a century after an eight-year wait, timed to perfection. On a sunny Friday in Ahmedabad, Rahul scored his 11th Test century, a milestone made even more special because it was his first on Indian soil since 2016. His innings, marked by precision and maturity, served as a reminder of the faith Indian cricket has maintained in him despite his career’s ups and downs. Resuming play with an overnight score of 53 not out, Rahul displayed grace and patience, reaching his century in 190 balls. The innings was characterized by touch, timing, and a clear drive, showcasing Rahul at his best. This performance brings the 33-year-old from Karnataka to a total of 10 Test centuries as an opener, surpassing Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. He now sits among the top Indian openers, behind only Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and Murali Vijay. Last week, Rahul showed similar resolve, scoring 176 not out in a 412-run chase against Australia A in Lucknow, his first First-Class century in India since his 199 against England. His recent form indicates that Rahul is rediscovering his rhythm and his place in the team. With this century, Rahul reinforces his role in India’s Test setup, providing valuable stability as the team undergoes a transition. This hundred was a statement that, despite past challenges, Rahul remains an essential player, and India needs his composure now more than ever. The match was between India and West Indies, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with Rahul scoring his century in 190 balls, as India responded to West Indies’ 162. Rahul’s last Test century at home was in December 2016 against England. As he acknowledged the cheers, there was a visible sense of reflection on his journey and the challenges overcome.

The partition of India and Pakistan stands as a monumental event in world history, an experience unlikely to be paralleled elsewhere. This division inflicted deep wounds upon millions, leaving behind…

The partition of India and Pakistan stands as a monumental event in world history, an experience unlikely to be paralleled elsewhere. This division inflicted deep wounds upon millions, leaving behind memories that many would prefer to forget. Fate dealt a cruel hand, transforming the wealthy into the impoverished in a single night. Even today, in Patna, Bihar, there are those who still harbor the ache of partition, reluctant to revisit the pain. However, the annual commemoration of independence invariably brings these memories to the surface.

Kuldeep Singh Bagga, a former member of the Bihar State Minorities Commission, comes from a family that endured the trauma of partition. The circumstances dramatically shifted; Kuldeep Singh Bagga’s father, once a company owner, was compelled to leave everything behind in Pakistan to safeguard his family, including land and property, yet he held onto hope.

Bagga’s family originated from Gujranwala, Pakistan. His father, Amar Nath Bagga, enjoyed a prominent status. Their family possessed a brass-melting factory, employing numerous staff across various roles. When Kuldeep Singh Bagga’s father spoke of the events, he often expressed disbelief that the partition would actually occur.

When the partition was declared, it felt like a sudden catastrophe for the family. Forced to abandon their home, land, possessions, and factory, they had to leave overnight. At the time of departure from Pakistan, Kuldeep’s father struggled to accept that independence came at the cost of partition. After arriving in India, he would often become melancholic when reminiscing about the past, repeatedly recounting their former prestige in Gujranwala. Kuldeep’s paternal uncle, aunt, parents and grandmother were together during the tumultuous time.

After losing everything, Kuldeep Singh Bagga’s father eventually arrived in Telhara village, Nalanda. There, he sought to rebuild his life. He started from scratch, working diligently to establish a business. Through hard work, the business thrived, and he later purchased land. He adapted to the new environment, and his hard work and honesty earned him the respect of the villagers, who elected him as the head of their panchayat.

After settling in India, Kuldeep’s father couldn’t forget the memories of Gujranwala. He often spoke about the comforts they had enjoyed there, a stark contrast to the struggles they faced in India. Today, no relatives of his remain in Pakistan; they are all in India. The families of his uncle and aunt reside in Delhi. Kuldeep was the eldest of seven children. His siblings are Surjit Singh Bagga, Brij Kumar Bagga, Bharat Bhushan Bagga, Jagjit Singh Bagga, Rajkumar Bagga, and Girish Kumar Bagga.

Kuldeep Singh Bagga is now a well-respected figure, not only in Patna but throughout Bihar. He has held positions as a member of the Bihar State Minorities Commission and as the President of the Bihar State Sikh Sabha’s representative board. He also serves as the president of the management committee of the Gurudwara located on Fraser Road in the capital. Additionally, he operates a motor parts shop in the capital. Kuldeep attributes his work ethic to his father and his success to the grace of Waheguru (God). Today, he has established his own identity through his dedication and hard work.

Himachal Pradesh has been severely impacted by torrential rains, flash floods, and cloudbursts, leading to widespread damage. Villages have been washed away, roads have crumbled, and landslides have caused significant disruption. Small bridges have been destroyed by the force of the water, cutting off access to many areas. In the Kullu district’s Parvati Valley, the residents of Malana village have demonstrated remarkable resilience by rebuilding a narrow wooden bridge. Utilizing traditional bridge-making techniques, and relying solely on the knowledge of village elders, the community has overcome the challenges posed by the monsoon. The bridge, which is crucial for approximately 200 daily commuters traveling to Jari and nearby areas, was swept away by the Malana Nallah during sudden floods. Without waiting for external aid, over 200 villagers collaborated tirelessly for seven days to reconstruct the bridge. Malana, an ancient village with a rich history and unique traditions, is known for its historically significant democratic setup and its prohibition of outsiders touching anything within the village. Located at an altitude of 9,000 feet, the village is home to around 2,400 inhabitants. According to Joginder Singh, a member of the temple committee, the villagers’ resourcefulness serves as an exemplary act. The community’s initiative is widely praised. Last year, the village faced similar flood damage, prompting swift action to rebuild their vital infrastructure.

Despite a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, pilgrims embarking on the Amarnath Yatra from the Pahalgam route have displayed remarkable resilience. This 46-km trek remains a preferred path for many devotees, viewed as a spiritual commitment and a defiant stand against terrorism. Pilgrims expressed their determination, stating that bullets and bombs will not deter their faith in reaching Baba Barfani. This year, a significant increase in participation is anticipated, seen as a strong response to terrorist threats. The first batch of pilgrims reached base camps in Anantnag’s Pahalgam area and Ganderbal’s Baltal area. A total of 5,892 pilgrims have started the journey. Enhanced security measures include high-tech surveillance, AI-based facial recognition, real-time tracking with RFID tags, and a significant deployment of security personnel.

The Civil Services Examination (CSE), conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is widely considered one of India’s toughest competitive exams, requiring deep knowledge, sharp analytical skills, and critical thinking across its three stages—prelims, mains, and interview. Among the many success stories it has produced, Divya Tanwar’s journey shines as a powerful example of perseverance and determination.

Early Life And Struggles
Originating from the small village of Nimbi in Mahendragarh, Haryana, Divya Tanwar encountered numerous hardships during her childhood, particularly after the passing of her father in 2011. Despite facing financial difficulties, she remained steadfast in her commitment to education. Her mother, Babita Tanwar, was a pillar of strength, taking on strenuous labor to support Divya and her three siblings and ensure they had access to proper schooling.

Divya’s academic path started in government schools and continued at Navodaya Vidyalaya, where her dedication and intellect quickly stood out. After earning a degree in science, she set her sights on the UPSC Civil Services Examination, driven by a strong resolve to rise above every challenge.

Cracking UPSC Without Coaching

Unlike many aspirants who depend on conventional coaching institutes, Divya carved her own path by leveraging online resources and mock test series. Her disciplined self-study strategy paid off when she appeared for the UPSC CSE in 2021. At just 21 years old, she achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 438, making her one of the youngest IPS officers in the nation.

In her first attempt, Divya secured 751 marks in the written exam and 179 in the personality test, bringing her total to 930. As a candidate from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category, her achievement stands as a powerful testament to perseverance and the effective use of available resources.

Pursuit Of Excellence
While her initial success was commendable, Divya aimed even higher. Driven by unwavering determination, she continued her preparation and appeared for the UPSC CSE again in 2022. This time, she achieved an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 105, turning her dream of becoming an IAS officer into reality.

In her second attempt, Divya earned 834 marks in the written exam and 160 in the personality test, achieving a total score of 994. This significant improvement highlighted her dedication to continuous growth and pursuit of excellence.

Current Role And Legacy
Divya Tanwar currently serves as an IAS officer in the Manipur cadre, inspiring many through her remarkable journey. Her story goes beyond academic achievement—it’s a powerful narrative of resilience, determination, and the pursuit of one’s dreams in the face of adversity.

Divya’s journey from a humble village in Haryana to the esteemed ranks of the Indian Administrative Service is a powerful testament to determination, perseverance, and self-confidence.
