The GST Council has announced tax cuts on electronic goods, providing significant relief to consumers. The 28% tax slab has been eliminated, replaced by only two slabs: 5% and 18%. Products like TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and dishwashers will now be cheaper. However, the question remains whether mobile phones and laptops will also see price reductions.

The government has reduced the GST on televisions (LCD and LED), monitors, and projectors from 28% to 18%. Previously, high taxes inflated their prices, but now consumers can expect to save approximately 2,000 to 3,000 rupees on TVs and monitors.

Air conditioners, dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines have also been moved to the 18% tax slab from 28%. This could lead to savings of around 1,000 to 2,000 rupees on refrigerators and washing machines, while the price of air conditioners may decrease by 1,500 to 3,000 rupees.

Consumers will not receive any price relief on mobile phones and laptops. Both categories already have an 18% GST, which the government has maintained. This means there’s no change in the tax structure for smartphones and laptops. Consequently, their prices will remain the same for now, and consumers will not get any additional benefit. In other words, there will be no price reduction for smartphones. Similarly, the GST on laptops will remain at 18%.

The monsoon season can significantly impact household electronic appliances, particularly kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and freezers. Many individuals report excessive ice accumulation within their freezers during this time. This issue not only impairs the freezer’s cooling efficiency but also elevates energy consumption. Fortunately, this problem is manageable by utilizing the correct mode on your freezer.

Increased humidity in the air during the rainy season is a primary cause. Frequent opening of the freezer door allows external moisture to enter. This moisture then freezes upon contact with the cold surfaces inside, gradually forming thick layers of ice. This explains why ice accumulation tends to accelerate during the monsoon.

Most modern refrigerators come equipped with frost-free technology. These freezers offer a “Defrost Mode” or “Frost-Free Mode” option. It is recommended to use this mode during the rainy season. This mode automatically melts any accumulated excess ice and evenly distributes cold air throughout the freezer.

If you have an older model lacking this feature, manually defrosting the freezer once a week is a good practice. Simply switch off the freezer, open the door to allow the ice to melt, wipe away any remaining moisture with a clean cloth, and then turn it back on.

By adopting these methods, several advantages can be realized, including improved freezer cooling, extended freshness of food items, reduced electricity consumption, and prolonged lifespan of the freezer. Additionally, avoid frequent opening of the freezer door, prevent overcrowding of the freezer to allow proper air circulation, and refrain from placing items with high moisture content directly into the freezer.
