  • After Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe is now set to miss Olympics 2024 | Football News

As the Euro 2024 tournament will come to an end, soon after the Paris Olympics 2024 will kick off from July 27. Kylian Mbappe recently joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after being linked to the team for the past couple of seasons. After Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe is another big name who will not feature in the Paris Olympics. Real Madrid recently blocked Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga from taking part in the Olympic games taking place in Paris.

    Real Madrid’s Intervention

Mbappe had earlier shown interest in representing his country at the Olympic games but Real Madrid’s stand has been very clear about Mbappe’s involvement in the games. “My club’s position was very clear, so from that moment on, I think I (knew) I wouldn’t be taking part in the Games. That’s just the way it is, and I understand that too. I’m joining a new team in September, so it’s not the best way to start an adventure. I’m going to wish this French team all the best. I’m going to watch every game. I hope they’ll win the gold medal.” Mbappe said. Kylian Mbappe further stated that he is all ready to leave his fitness concerns behind and start fresh as he leads France in the Euros and will also be key to Madrid’s plans next season. “I’m ready to win, it’s more of a mental issue,” he said. “My head is perfect, now let’s see how my legs are.”

Lionel Messi Also Set To Miss Olympics

Lionel Messi recently made his stand very clear regarding his participation in the Paris Olympics games. He stated that it would be very hard for the World Cup winner to play in back-to-back international tournaments considering his age. Messi is currently all set to lead Argentina in their title defense run in the Copa America 2024. France U23 and former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry did not pick Mbappe for his squad but he stated that the star striker would be welcomed with open arms if he decides to play and represent his country in the Olympic Games.

  • La Liga Roundup: Bayern Beat Atletico Madrid 4-3 In High Scoring Thriller To Stay On Top; Real Madrid Beat Mallorca With Late Screamer | football news

Real Madrid and Verona extended their impressive runs to reach the halfway point of the Spanish league season at the top of the standings. Both teams won on Wednesday to reach 48 points after 19 games, with third-place Atletico Madrid 10 points back. Real Madrid was ahead of Verona on a tiebreaker. Barcelona can move within seven points of the leaders if it wins at Las Palmas on Thursday.

Madrid edged Mallorca 1–0 at home with a late goal by Antonio Rüdiger in a match that marked the return of Vinícius Júnior from injury. Verona, the surprise team in Spanish soccer this season, defeated Atletico 4–3 with a winner by Iván Martín in stoppage time. Álvaro Morata scored a hat trick for Atletico, while Antoine Griezmann was held scoreless to remain tied with Luis Aragonés as the club’s all-time top scorer with 173 goals.

    THRILLER IN GIRONA

Faced with another difficult challenge, Verona rose to the occasion yet again, overcoming Diego Simeone’s Atletico to show it can be considered a genuine title contender. Martín scored the winning goal one minute into stoppage time, firing a left-footed shot into the top corner after fending off a series of Atletico defenders inside the area. The hosts led 3–1 until Morata capped his hat trick with an equalizer in the 54th. Valery Fernández, Savinho, and Daley Blind scored Verona’s other goals at Montilivi Stadium.

The team coached by Míchel has the league’s best attack with 46 goals, four more than Madrid’s. Verona has 15 wins, three draws, and a lone loss coming against Madrid. It went on a 13-match unbeaten streak in all competitions since that 3-0 defeat to Madrid at home in September. Last month, it earned a convincing 4-2 win at defending champion Barcelona.

“We will keep going match by match,” Martín said. (Top 10 Most Googled Footballers In 2023)

“We are close to securing a European place, but we have to keep this momentum and try to win as many points as possible. Then at the end of the season, we’ll see where we are.”

    MADRID KEEPS PUSHING

Vinícius was back in action after an absence of nearly two months because of a muscle injury, but the Spanish powerhouse struggled in attack until Rüdiger broke the deadlock with a header into the top corner after a well-placed corner kick taken by Luka Modric in the 78th minute.

“I’m very happy because it was an important goal and an important three points for us,” Rüdiger said.

The result extended Madrid’s unbeaten streak to 18 matches in all competitions, since a 3–1 league loss at Atletico in September. That was the team’s lone loss in a season in which it has won 21 matches and drawn three. Mallorca, which twice hit the woodwork at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, stayed in 14th place, four points from the relegation zone.

The team coached by Mexican manager Javier Aguirre had won two of its last three league matches — against Sevilla and Osasuna. Vinícius hadn’t played since November when he injured a leg muscle while playing a World Cup qualifier with Brazil. He had a couple of clear chances on Wednesday but didn’t capitalize on them. Madrid also had the return of defender Dani Carvajal, but coach Carlo Ancelotti remained without several key players because of long-term knee injuries, including goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defenders David Alaba and Éder Militão.

    CELTA WINS

Celta Vigo defeated Real Betis 2–1 at home with a winner by Swedish teenager Williot Swedberg six minutes into stoppage time. The result took Celta out of the relegation zone. The Vigo team has won two of its last three league matches after enduring a 12-game winless run in the competition. Real Betis, winless in five consecutive matches in all competitions, stayed in seventh place. In a match between two teams in the relegation zone, 19th-place Granada defeated 18th-place Cadiz 2–0 at home.

  • Three answers and three questions from Real Madrid’s draw with Sevilla

Real Madrid and Sevilla played out a dramatic 2-2 draw that has thrown up so many talking points. Here comes a look at the questions that were answered and the refereeing controversies that are now being discussed in the aftermath.

    Three answers

    1. Could Real Madrid capitalise on the Camp Nou draw?

After the goalless draw between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid on Saturday, there was a lot of celebrating in Real Madrid circles. Suddenly the title was in their hands, as four wins from the final four games would guarantee Los Blancos top spot. So, could they capitalise? Well, no. This was always going to be a tough game given Sevilla’s quality and Real Madrid’s absences and it’s just a draw for Zinedine Zidane’s side. That means Atleti stay top for a 27th matchday in a row. If Atleti win their final three matches, they’re now guaranteed the title.

    2. Would Hazard respond to his critics?

Between the Chelsea game and this one, Eden Hazard was the centre of attention. Not just because of the controversy created from the images of him laughing, but also because of how ineffective his performance at Stamford Bridge was in general. So, how would he respond? He already published an Instagram apology, but would he now do some talking on the pitch? Well, he wasn’t given a start and didn’t come on until the 79th minute. The Belgian had a poor control that gave Sevilla a throw-in shortly after coming on, but then got a bit of a lucky touch on Toni Kroos’ shot to direct it past Bono. That won’t be enough to win back most Real Madrid fans, but it’s a start. Let’s see if he now starts midweek in Granada.

    3. How would Marcelo and Odriozola manage the flanks?

Due to injuries, Real Madrid had to go with Marcelo and Álvaro Odriozola in the full-back roles this game, which is always a cause for concern for fans. They weren’t bad in general and Odriozola put in a very good cross in the first half for Benzema to score… only for the goal to be ruled out because the Basque had been offside. But, they were the ones responsible for conceding the first Sevilla goal as they were both marking Ivan Rakitić, before completely leaving the Croatian to allow him to set up Fernando.
