  • IPL 2021:  AB de Villiers may keep wickets for RCB this season

    By ANI
BENGALURU: Mike Hesson, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Director of Cricket has said that AB de Villiers will once again be a wicketkeeping option for the franchise in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

RCB is set to play the IPL 2021 opener against Mumbai Indians on April 9 in Chennai. For a few matches last year, AB de Villiers donned the wicketkeeping gloves and he is expected to do the same this year if it fixes the balance of the playing XI.

“We were delighted with the fact that Ab de Villiers loved wicketkeeping and he embraced it. He wanted to continue doing it, he is a real option, we now have a couple of other wicketkeeping options which is great. Mohammed Azharuddeen is a natural athlete with the gloves and in the field. We also have KS Bharat, he is a natural keeper, gives us different options as well,” said Hesson in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.

“We are not going to make the commitment now to you guys as to who will do what. We are really pleased with the options we have got and AB is certainly one of those,” he added.

RCB’s training camp will begin on March 29 for the upcoming edition of the IPL. Hesson earlier had said that AB de Villiers will arrive on March 28 for the upcoming IPL.

“We have got players arriving all the way through till April 1. Finn Allen will be playing in T20I in New Zealand on April 1 and then he will come the day after… ABD arrives on 28,” he said.

Hesson also said: “It is very different than the last year where we had everybody together for a long period of time on the back of a period where the guys had not trained or played. So, this time it is different, we got players playing international cricket over here and overseas and domestic cricket up until a hand full of days ago. So, we had to prepare in slightly different ways.”

The final of the 14th edition of the tournament will be played on May 30 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Playoffs will also be played at the same venue.

  • Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel announced to retire

Former Indian Cricket Team wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel announced to retire on Wednesday. He has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Which his fans are quite surprised to hear. At the age of just 35, he said goodbye to cricket. He has made this announcement himself on social media. He was last seen playing for Team India on the ground in 2018. After this, now he will not be seen playing in any form.

He announced his retirement from cricket on Twitter. He wrote, “I am saying goodbye to my 18-year-long cricket career today. The BCCI gave me the opportunity to play for Team India at the age of 17, while trusting me. I will always be thankful for the way the BCCI has supported me. “

Not only this, he has thanked all the captains under whose leadership he has played for Team India. Thanking Sourav Ganguly, he wrote, “I will always be thankful to Dada.” As a captain, Ganguly always supported me and it was a privilege for me to play with him. ”Parthiv made his debut in Test cricket in 2002 at the age of 17 on a tour of England. Parthiv Patel was part of RCB in the IPL this year, but he was not given a chance to play a single match.

  • RCB’s Parthiv Patel on persisting with Virat Kohli as skipper

Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified for the Indian Premier League playoffs this season after 3 years. The much-maligned side impressed initially as they won 7 of their first 10 matches. But a slump in the latter games resulted in the side narrowly qualifying for the playoffs in fourth place. They eventually lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator and the defeat resulted in some criticism levelled at captain Virat Kohli.

Former India batsman and two-time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir said that it is time for the 32-year-old to be held accountable for the results and was vocal about wanting to change Kohli as RCB captain.

“100 percent, because the problem is about accountability. Eight years into the tournament [without a trophy], eight years is a long time. Tell me any other captain…forget about captain, tell me any other player who would have got eight years and wouldn’t have won the title and would have still continued with it. So it has to be accountability. A captain needs to take accountability,’ Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.

On the other hand, Virender Sehwag supported Kohli, saying he is a fine captain who is being let down by an unbalanced team. Kohli’s RCB teammate Parthiv Patel was asked about Kohli’s captaincy and said that he feels Virat shouldn’t be held accountable for team’s loss.

“He is very attacking player himself. He likes to get on with it. I thought he was slightly defensive in taking those decisions as a captain. Other than that, he has been a very successful India captain, no doubt about it. But if you look around RCB’s records in eight years, it is obviously been a long, long time,” Parthiv told cricket.com.

“I am sitting at this point of time neither in Sehwag’s shoes (Backing Kohli to continue as captain) nor in Gautam Gambhir’s shoes (replace Kohli as captain). The franchise should decide on it. I don’t think as players, we have anything to say about it.”

  • Suryakumar Yadav commented on Virat Kohli’s tweet, Solzing was done during IPL

Virat Kohli used a negative strategy against Suryakumar Yadav in a high-voltage match between RCB and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. Virat would often come close to Suryakumar and start staring at him. But Suryakumar did not lose his cool and he continued to ignore the RCB captain.

As soon as he won the match, Suryakumar looked at Kohli and asked him, “Is everything okay?” The fans of Surya liked it a lot, the reason is that they responded to the negative attack in a positive way.

Suryakumar was not included in any of the formats despite his impressive performance when the team of ODIs, Tests and T20s were selected on the tour of Australia. However, Team India coach Ravi Shastri, while praising this opener of Mumbai Indians, advised to be patient.

On social media, cricket fans blamed Virat Kohli for not being selected by Suryakumar. Akash Chopra also praised Suryakumar before the selection and said that he will definitely be seen in Team India’s jersey in future.

  • RCB coach Katich came in defense of Virat Kohli, this thing somewhere in favor of Virat

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Simon Katich has defended skipper Virat Kohli, who faced criticism for not winning the IPL title under his captaincy for eight consecutive years, saying RCB still needed him. RCB are out of the tournament after losing by six wickets to the IPL eliminator from Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. With this defeat, Virat’s dream of winning the IPL for the eighth consecutive year under his captaincy was broken and he is facing severe criticism.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has also said after RCB is out of the tournament that RCB should now look for a new option in place of Virat for the captaincy. Gambhir said that the time of eight years is too long and if a team fails to win a single title during this time then the captain should be held accountable for this. He said that he is not against Virat but now the time has come that this 32-year-old player should step aside from the responsibility of captaincy in IPL.

Katich, while defending Virat’s leadership, specifically mentioned his two important features in a media interaction on Saturday. According to Katich, the first feature is that Virat guides the players very well and his second quality is that he motivates the young players to struggle till the end.

The RCB coach believes that Virat has provided the best guidance to opener Devdutt Padikal, who made his IPL debut from this season. RCB batsman Devdutt has scored 473 runs this season, including five half-centuries. Katich said, “We are very lucky to have these 11 weeks of work with Virat. Virat is very professional and all the players here respect him very much. “

  • Virat Kohli Get Trolled After Six-wicket Loss to SRH in IPL 2020 Eliminator : #ThankYouKohli Trends as RCB,

Yet another year of IPL, and yet again a disappointment for Royal Challengers Bangalore fans as Virat Kohli’s RCB crash out of IPL 2020 without a sniff at the IPL title. What’s more hurting this season for RCB will be the fact that they started well with seven wins of their first ten games, but lost their last five that saw them from being strong contenders to finish in top two, to just scraping through to playoffs, finishing fourth and eventually losing the Eliminator in a facile manner. This was their fifth straight loss and with the famed batting line-up managing a score beyond 150 only once in those matches.

While Kohli and RCB fans thanked the team and the skipper for their effort, but critics and social media warriors who never miss out on any opportunity to throw dirt at anybody, were at it and started to trend #ThankyouKohli, mocking the Indian skipper and his team. For the record, Kohli opened the innings in the Eliminator but was caught behind down the leg for 6 and while most critics and trollers targetted Kohli’s lack of runs in key games, the fact of the matter is, Kohli, despite having an average run with the bat this season ends IPL 2020 as the second-highest run-getter of RCB only behind Devdutt Padkikkal with 466 runs in 15 matches at 42.36 and a strike-rate of 121.35.

  • Returns due to players’ morale: Ricky Ponting

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has said that the players maintained morale even after four consecutive defeats to the team which helped the team win the last league match and finish second in the IPL table.

Ponting said – after four consecutive defeats the team had to ensure in the last one week that the morale of the team remains. Whenever you lose a few matches in the final phase of the tournament, it becomes difficult to get into rhythm, but the players are credited for their outstanding performance. Different energy was seen inside the players, which kept the rhythm throughout the match.

He said, it was not the best match, but it was really a praiseworthy performance that we needed to complete. RCB is a strong team and we have won the match one over which is a big difference in terms of T20. Now we face Mumbai Indians who have defeated us twice in this tournament. Delhi Capitals won their first match on Monday at Abu Dhabi ground.

Talking about the record of the team on the ground of Abu Dhabi, Ponting said – it is quite fun because we did not discuss about the ground or the ground. I mean that the first initial match that we played was based on the belief that we cannot win in Abu Dhabi but if we talk about this match then it was another ground for us. His wicket was very good and according to me it was the most spectacular wicket of the tournament so far.

He said – It was a do or die contest for us and the players competed in a very positive manner. We have two more matches to play now and this will help us win the first final. This will understand how our future will be. On the challenges of playing in the biosafety environment, Ponting said – I think we had many challenges in this tournament and due to all these reasons, all the teams were a little lower in the points table at some stage. Now that we have won the match, our morale has increased and the eight days ahead are crucial for us.
