  • WATCH: RCB’s Dinesh Karthik Hits The Biggest Six Of IPL 2024, Ball Travels To 108 Meters | cricket news

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper and batsman Dinesh Karthik slammed the biggest six of IPL 2024 in the game vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Karthik hit a brilliant 35-ball 83 which included 5 fours and 7 sixes respectively. But that was not enough for RCB to cross the winning mark as they lost the match by 25 runs. SRH, batting first, hit 287 for 3 in the 20 overs, which is the highest score in the tournament history. RCB got great start with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis smashing 80 for the first wicket inside seven overs.

Kohli hit 42 off 20 balls while Faf smashed 62 off 28. But apart from them and Karthik, no one really showed up. Anuj Rawat smashed 25 off 14 balls at the deep end.

RCB lost but Karthik once again displayed one of the best batting performances ever by an Indian batsman in the league, even if in a losing cause. On the first ball of the 15th over in the chase, Karthik got a ball full on the legs and he slogged it for a huge six beyong the deep backward square leg boundary.

That six traveled to a distance of 108 meters, which is the longest hit this season. SRH skipper Pat Cummins had a blank expression on his face when he saw the ball sail into the stand.

Faf du Plessis expressed satisfaction with his team’s batting performance, noting that the pitch provided a true T20 challenge. Despite their efforts to chase down the formidable total of 280, he acknowledged the difficulty of the task at hand. Du Plessis emphasized the importance of confronting low confidence head-on and acknowledged the challenges faced by the fast bowlers on such a pitch.

From a strategic standpoint, du Plessis highlighted the need for improvement in certain areas, particularly in maintaining a strong run rate post-powerplay. Despite the daunting target, he commended his team’s resilience and fighting spirit throughout the run chase.

Reflecting on the bowling performance, du Plessis admitted that conceding 30–40 runs more than desired was a setback. He stressed the importance of mental freshness in such a demanding game, acknowledging the mental toll it can take. Nonetheless, he emphasized the importance of returning to the contest with renewed commitment and determination.

  • Was trying to bowl wide yorkers to AB de Villiers: SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar

ABU DHABI: SunRisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that his plan was to bowl wide yorkers to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter AB de Villiers in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 encounter.

A spirited bowling performance saw Kane Williamson-led SRH defeat RCB by four runs here at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended 13 off the final over to help his side register a thrilling victory.

“The hand is fine. I got hit thrice after I dropped a catch as well. When AB bats, I was thinking about the process. I was trying to bowl wide yorkers,” Bhuvneshwar told host broadcaster Star Sports after the game ended.

“I bowled a yorker at the stumps and got hit for a six and then again went back to wide yorkers. If you look at the score at three venues it hasn’t been much. We did think we were 10-15 short though,” he added.

SRH pacer Umran Malik clocked 153kph to bowl the fastest delivery of IPL 2021 against RCB. Malik achieved this feat on the 4th delivery of the 9th over against Devdutt Padikkal. The RCB batter got an outside edge and scored a run on the fastest delivery of IPL 2021.

Earlier, Jason Roy played a knock of 44 runs as SRH posted a total of 141/7 in the allotted twenty overs. For RCB, Harshal Patel returned with the figures of 3-33.

SunRisers Hyderabad will next take on Mumbai Indians on Friday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

  • RCB vs SRH: This is why Shahbaz Ahmed came into the attack late

    By ANI
NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner Shahbaz Ahmed, who bowled the match-winning 17th over against SunRisers Hyderabad, said that he was introduced late in the attack because David Warner stayed long at the crease.

The left-handed SRH skipper departed after playing a knock of 54 runs in the 14th over of the clash. Kyle Jamieson sent him packing and handed SRH a second blow. In the next over, skipper Virat Kohli introduced left-arm spinner Ahmed as Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow, both right-handers, were at the crease. Ahmed gave six runs in that over and returned back for the 17th over.

SRH were 115/2 before the start of the 17th over. But Ahmed scalped three wickets in that over and turned the tide in favour of RCB. He bagged Jonny Bairstow (12), Manish Pandey (38) and Abdul Samad (0).

After the 17th over, SRH’s score read 116/5 and the side managed to reach 143/9 in their allotted 20 overs but failed to cross the line.

Shahbaz returned with the figures of 3-7 in his two overs while pacer Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel bagged two scalps each.

“It was a nervous situation, Warner played so long that’s why I got the 17th over but the wicket was helping as it was offering grip and the captain knew that. Those two overs changed the game for us. I’m happy to contribute to my team’s victory,” Ahmed said in a video posted by RCB’s official Twitter handle.

Opening game hero and Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel also shared his experience and said, “I was very clear about my plans. I knew what I wanted to do. I was confident that I will be able to execute it. It was just one of those errors that happened and luckily we got out of the other side of the game.

“Every time you bag those two points you get the satisfaction. We have made some errors in this game as well but it’s all about getting better and focusing on the next clash now,” he added.

Director of Cricket Mike Hesson said Harshal’s first over gave them the idea that which lengths are going to work on the wicket.

“Harshal’s first over it went for four and it just showed that if you take the pace off the ball, you hit those good lengths that we are still in the game. We needed an over like that just to know we could crunch it down and then we just started to squeeze, squeeze and squeeze,” Hesson said.

RCB will next lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

  • Having guys like AB de Villiers to bat after me is a luxury, says RCB’s Glenn Maxwell

    By ANI
CHENNAI: After playing a match-winning knock of 59 runs against SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said that he has benefitted with the comfort of knowing that talisman AB de Villiers will be batting behind him.

RCB defeated SRH by six runs in a thrilling encounter here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. David Warner’s half-century had put SRH on course for victory but Shahbaz Ahmed ran through the middle-order to help RCB register its second consecutive win of the tournament.

“It’s a very nice start, new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. To start like this is really nice. It’s nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom with AB to come and it’s a very similar role I have in the Australian cricket team. The support staff have been backing me as well. It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB,” Maxwell told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.

“Maybe was pushed a bit too deep and expected to go from ball one, which I am not pretty good at. Maybe a bit of culture thing as well. Obviously.. I think it’s my 4th IPL team and there’s a bit of pressure. So it was really key for me to turn up and do well. I will wait for my chance to bowl. Washi is a superstar for us. The more I don’t bowl and hopefully I can keep contributing with the bat, the more happy I will be,” he added.

SRH had won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. Maxwell scored a gutsy half-century to ensure that RCB, despite losing a flurry of wickets in the second half of their innings, set up a 150-run target.

SRH was right on track for a win with Warner and Manish Pandey stitching an 83-run stand for the second wicket but the side lost the plot in the middle overs. SRH collapsed from 96/1 to 123/6 within 4.4 overs and managed to reach 143/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Shahbaz picked three key wickets and delivered when RCB needed him the most.
