  • Woman’s body found hanging from tree in UP: FIR against three for rape, murder

    MAHOBA: An FIR was registered against three men on Monday for allegedly raping and killing a Dalit woman, whose body was found hanging from a tree in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said.

    On a complaint from the victim’s mother, an FIR was registered against Rohit, Bhupendra and Tarun on charges of rape and under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, SHO, Kulpahad police station, Ravindra Tiwari said.

    A probe is on in the matter.

    No arrest has so far been made.

    The victim (18) left home to buy vegetables on Saturday afternoon but did not return.

    Later, her family members found her body hanging from a tree in the Belatal area, Circle Officer Rampravesh Rai had said.

    The woman’s aunt told the police on Sunday that she was being harassed by a man in their locality, who was making phone calls to her for the last one month.

    She alleged that the victim’s body was hanged from the tree after she was killed, the officer had said.

  • Bihar court awards life to 7 for gang-raping girl

    BIHAR SHARIF: A Bihar court on Wednesday sentenced seven persons to life imprisonment for gangraping a girl in Nalanda district in September 2019.

    Additional District and Sessions Judge VII-cum-POCSO Special Judge Mohammad Manzoor Alam also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the convicts.

    Of the seven convicts, the court held two guilty under the IT Act for video-graphing the crime and releasing it on social media.

    It awarded them three years imprisonment, which will run concurrently with the lifer.

    The girl was gangraped in Rajgir on September 16, 2019 when she had gone for a stroll with her boyfriend after having attended coaching classes.

    The seven convicts had held the boy captive and raped the girl. They were arrested within 24 hours of the incident.

  • Woman constable alleges rape by policeman in Uttar Pradesh

    GONDA: A constable has alleged that she was raped by a colleague in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, officials said on Wednesday.

    A case was registered in this regard on Tuesday night at the women police station, they said.

    Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said the policewoman accused the constable of raping her on January 10 on the pretext of showing her his room.

    The woman alleged that he also threatened her of dire consequences if she resited.

    Based on her complaint, a case was registered against the constable, the SP said.

    Pandey said the woman constable has been sent for a medical examination.

    Efforts are on to trace the absconding accused, police said.

  • Minor girl gang-raped, burnt alive in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, FIR registered

    MUZAFFARPUR: A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped and burnt alive at her residence in Muzaffarpur on January 11, police said on Wednesday.

    The rape victim died this morning in a hospital where she was undergoing treatment.

    The girl’s father has accused four persons and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the matter.

    Speaking to ANI, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajesh Kumar Sharma said, “A minor girl was brutally gang-raped and burnt alive by four men. The girl’s father has accused four people and an FIR has been registered.”

    “We have initiated the investigation and our priority is in arresting the culprits,” he added. 

  • Woman accuses Maharashtra social justice minister Dhananjay Munde of rape

    MUMBAI: A woman has accused Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde of rape and claimed the Mumbai police ignored her complaint.

    The NCP leader denied the allegations, claiming he is being blackmailed by the complainant and her sister.

    Munde said he had been in a relationship with the complainant’s sister and sired two children.

    The 37-year-old woman, an aspiring singer, said she wrote to Mumbai police commissioner on January 10, stating that Munde repeatedly raped her in 2006. She also claimed that she approached Oshiwara police here earlier but her complaint was not accepted.

    Munde (45) said the woman’s claims were part of a conspiracy to blackmail him. He, however, acknowledged that he was in a relationship with the complainants sister and has two children with her.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday, Munde said his wife, family and friends were aware of this relationship, adding the two kids have been accepted by his family.

    He said the woman with whom he was in a relationship had been blackmailing him since 2019 and he had filed a police complaint and also moved the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on the distribution of defamatory content against him.

  • Woman gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh, accused rapists insert iron rod in her private parts

    BHOPAL: In another shocking incident, a middle-aged widow was allegedly gang-raped by three men, who also inserted an iron rod into her privates in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident happened near Amilia police station area of Sidhi district, 600 km from Bhopal, on Saturday late night.

    The 45-year-old widow earned a living by running a tea-shop. Her husband passed away four years ago and has two sons who live in Gujarat. She stays alone in a hut and runs a makeshift tea shop there.

    The woman was sleeping inside her hut when the accused, who hail from a village located three km away, came to her hut and asked for water. When the women said she has no water, the accused rapists barged into her hut and gang-raped her.

    The woman alleged that the accused not only gang-raped her, but also put an iron rod into her private part. .

    The gang-rape survivor was first rushed to the Sidhi district hospital, where doctors referred her to Sanjay Gandhi Medical College Hospital in Rewa.

    According to police sources, when the three men gang-raped the woman, another person was present with them inside the hut.

    “Doctors at the hospital have told us that the woman is out of danger, but she could take more than a week to recover,” IG-Rewa Zone told The New Indian Express on Monday.

    “Four men have been arrested in the matter. The arrested men are being interrogated by a police team led by Sidhi SP Pankaj Kumawat”, the IG Rewa Zone added. 

  • Kangana backs anti-conversion law; backs Saudi-style hanging for rape

    BHOPAL: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Saturday came out in support of the anti-conversion ordinance brought in by the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, saying it would help the victims of fraudulent marriages.

    The actor, often in news because of controversial social media posts, also appeared to favour public executions such as in Saudi Arabia to curb crimes like gang-rape.

    Governor Anandiben Patel earlier in the day gave assent to an ordinance of MP government which penalizes religious conversions through fraudulent means including those for the sake of marriage.

    The law provides for as much as 10 years in prison for fraudulent conversions in some cases.

    “This is a very good law. Many people have faced problems. The law has been made for such people,” she told reporters.

    “This type of law should be made. It is a very good step the government has finally taken,” Ranaut, here for a film shoot, said to a query.

    Asked about rising cases of rape in the country, the actor said trials of such cases go on for long and victims get harassed in the process.

    “They have the burden to prove the charges against the accused. More than half the accused get acquitted,” she said.

    “Many countries like Saudi hang (the accused) in public squares,” she said, adding “until we set five-six such examples, until tough action is not taken (such crimes will not stop). because people get away with such crimes,” Ranaut said.

  • Maharashtra govt school teacher booked for raping minor student

    ALIBAUG: A case has been registered against a government school teacher at Mangaon in Raigad district of Maharashtra for allegedly raping a minor girl student, police said on Thursday.

    The accused, Madan Wankhede, was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they said.

    “The accused raped the minor victim, who studied in his school, on multiple occasions since 2016. He used to threaten the girl that if she told about it to anyone, he would fail her in the exam and that her mother, who works in the same school, would also lose her job,” an official of Mangaon police station said.

    However, the girl mustered courage and finally told her ordeal to her mother recently, following which a complaint was lodged.

    Investigation into the case is on.

  • UP court sentences two people to life imprisonment for raping 5-year-old

    BANDA: A local court sentenced two people to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each in connection with the gang rape of a 5-year-old girl.

    Additional District Government Counsel of POCSO Court Ramsuphal Singh on Tuesday said that on July 11, 2018, when the girl was sleeping with her mother, she was taken by the two to a nearby garden and raped by them.

    They then fled from the spot. Police arrested both the accused after the incident and they have been in jail since then.

    He said that the court sentenced the two to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of them in connection with the girl’s rape.

  • 6-year-old girl found raped, murdered in Punjab’s Jalandhar

    CHANDIGARH: A six-year-old girl, who went missing on Saturday evening, was allegedly raped and then killed in Punjab’s Jalandhar district, police said.

    Her body was found from a sugarcane field in Hazara village located on the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur road on Sunday, they said.

    The victim’s parents, who belong to Bihar and work as labourers, on Saturday lodged a complaint about their missing child after they failed to find her home when they returned from work.

    Santosh, who stays near their home and is a distant relative of victim’s family, told them that he took her on a bicycle to get biscuits and later left her back at home.

    When the girl’s parents started searching her in nearby areas, Santosh absconded, said the police.

    Later, the family lodged a complaint against Santosh, said a police official.

    The girl’s body found on Sunday, said the official.

    Initial investigations suggest that the girl was raped and then killed.

    The body has been sent for post mortem, said the police.

    A case of kidnapping, rape and murder under the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered, the police said, adding that efforts were on to nab Santosh.
